V isiting Rotarians: Jeremy Fields, Naples NY and John Gleason, Rochester, NY. Welcome! Guests of Rotarians: Dave Hutchings introduced his son Ryan who has recently become an Eagle Scout. Sharon Pepper introduced Dennis Behr, a prospec- tive Rotarian. New Members: Pres. Jeff reminded members to “meet & greet” our newest members: Michael Stapleton, Mark Prunoske, Sal Pietropaolo, Robert Christakos and Jenny Goodemote. V alentine’ s Day: Jack Moran is planning a superb evening event on TUESDAY, February 14th. This is in place of our regular Thursday meeting. Time: 5:30 p.m. social hour, 6:30 p.m. dinner, with entertainment to follow. Steamboat Landing has given us 4 meal selections. $35 per person or $65 per couple. Reservations and payment due by February 9th. Sunday, Mar. 11th: Bowl-A-Thon for Scholarship Fund Sat., Apr. 14th: Canandaigua Rotary hosts the District Assembly at Canandaigua Academy Fri., May 18th - Sun., May 20th: Rotary 7120 District Conference, Hyatt Hotel, Rochester Fines & Happy Dollars: Don O’Neill has heard from 2 daughters-in-law and his daughter that they are all expecting babies – which will bring his grandchildren count up to 14. Bruce Kennedy was wearing his bright orange sport- coat to honor Syracuse’s #1 rating for basketball. Bob Simpson chipped in for his orange Syracuse hat. Dick McGavern - trip to Denver to visit his son. Tom Rogers - proud, new grandfather of Hudson Rogers. Bob Metzger - trip to Hilton Head and for he and his family making national TV news. Len Kane - granddaughter has a 3.85 GPA and is run- ning a high school basketball program. Len is also happy about his wife’s recovery from recent surgeries. Ellen Polimeni wishes congratulations to Ryan Hutchings on becoming an Eagle Scout. Ken Poole is happy that Enrico (our past exchange student) is getting all 100’s and A’s at college. Doug Lowden - for failing to show up for Holiday Bell Ringing and leaving a pregnant Rotarian to cover the extra hour for him. Brad Bliss & Steve Flamini - for newspaper photo for Holiday Bell Ringing. Carol Shama - for recent retirement. Andy Platou - celebrating his 90th birthday. The Pit Pass was purchased by Rick Hawks for $22 for an upcoming trip to Florida. The annual Literacy Volunteers Spelling Bee is being held on Sunday, February 12th. Janet Tenreiro and John Spare are looking for a third member to spell with them – see Janet if you can help out. Rotary International News: The theme for 2012-2013 has just been announced: “Peace Through Service”. Also Rotary’s Challenge for polio eradication has reached US $200 million milestone. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded the Rotary Foundation an additional $50 million grant, which is not a challenge grant, in recognition of Rotary’s early achievement of this milestone. Program Club Assembly started with Pres. Jeff Anthony thanking the officers and directors for all they do for our club – a time-consuming duty for each of them. Next each of the avenue chairpersons talked about their avenue and the committees that work under them. Some highlights for this year include: • By-laws for our Club Foundation being revised • Audits done internally and by an accounting firm found no errors, and tax return filed on time • We are hosting District 7120 Assembly on April 14th with 500 Rotarians attending. Sign up with Tom Rogers to help that day – this is hopefully a fundraiser for our club • Contributed $2000 for Malawi trade scholarships • Polio is down to 3 countries worldwide that have active new cases • Three water projects currently in progress • Membership is at 140 members 50/50: Joker draw is at $280 – Andy Platou drew the king of diamonds. Dick Murphy won $16.00.
