The Colorectal Cancer Specialty Clinic (CCSC) at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) will provide newly diagnosed, non-metastatic colorectal cancer patients proper triage and fast access to personalized treatment plans. What the CCSC Can Do for You Whether you come to the CCSC for an initial visit or a second opinion, you will be seen by a dedicated team of UW Physicians during a single visit. These doctors specialize in treating colorectal cancer. Your team will include a medical oncologist, a surgical oncologist, and a radiation oncologist, as well as a colorectal cancer specialist nurse, pathologist, and radiologist. This level of collaborative, specialized care offered by our team is unique in this region. At this first appointment, you will have a physical exam and your team of doctors will review your records. Together, you and your medical team will determine the best course of treatment. At the end of your clinic visit, you will leave with a treatment plan so you’ll know exactly what to expect moving forward. Your treatment will likely begin right away. Your Treatment Experience You can expect that your CCSC treatment plan will likely involve surgery (provided at Surgical Specialties at UW Medical Center) followed by chemotherapy (provided at SCCA). If you have rectal or anal cancer, you will likely have a similar plan with the addition of radiation treatment. Receiving chemotherapy and radiation prior to surgery is a critical component for rectal and anal cancer care. Clinical studies are an important aspect to all cancer care at SCCA. It is part of our mission to bring promising new treatments to patients as quickly as possible. The doctors at the CCSC are also researchers who lead and collaborate in many clinical studies for colorectal cancer treatments, which means you’ll have access to the newest therapies not available elsewhere. “The nurses were so caring and the volunteers were great there.” —BADEE’A, MOTHER OF JONATHAN BARBEE (TREATED FOR AML) Colorectal Cancer Specialty Clinic

What the CCSC Can Do for You

Whether you come to the CCSC for an initial visit or a second opinion, you will be seen by a dedicated team of UW Physicians during a single visit.

Your Treatment Experience

You can expect that your CCSC treatment plan will likely involve surgery (provided at Surgical Specialties at UW Medical Center) followed by chemotherapy (provided at SCCA).

Specialized Support When You need It

The CCSC is the most recent multi-disciplinary clinic to join the UW Medicine’s Digestive Health Initiative. Part of the specialized care we provide at the CCSC comes from other professionals who are here to support you as you go through treatment. These health care providers include registered nurses who will oversee your chemotherapy, nutritionists who will provide valuable information about foods you should eat to help with treatment and make you feel good, and pharmacists who will help you understand the importance of your medications and how to take them during your treatment. If it becomes necessary, we have a specially certified wound ostomy nurse who understands the physical and emotional impact of ostomies. She will work closely with you, your family, and your doctors.

As you progress through your treatment plan, your care will be monitored by the CCSC team coordinator and colorectal care nurse. They will inform you about upcoming appointments and changes in your treatment plan, if that becomes necessary. They will make sure you know what you can expect during your treatment and the days following your treatment. Your entire CCSC medical team will be looking out for you and your wellbeing.

“The idea behind this comprehensive clinic is to get patients into a treatment plan as quickly as possible. Our doctors are all present on the day the patient comes in for their appointment and he/she will leave with a plan in hand to treat their disease.”
