“…the joy of the Lord is your strength.” NEHEMIAH 8:10
SHARE JOY!“…the joy of the Lord is your strength.” NEHEMIAH 8:10
We’re in a good place right now.
People sense the Spirit is moving in our congregation and are excited about being part of OSL.
Our ministry is vital and growing in key areas of programming.
Through a host of relational ministries, we are broadening in our sense of community.
We completed Phase I of Mission: Possible and now are hopeful about the prospect of paying off the mortgage by 2021.
Our benevolence giving is exemplary.
Giving is supporting our ministry plan.
Our congregational meetings have been well attended and noticeably positive.
All of this and more is generating a sense of joy at OSL, a delight that is deeply rooted in our experience of God’s presence and leading as we’ve moved through more challenging times. We are not unlike the people of Israel in Nehemiah’s day, having returned to their
homeland from their time of exile in Babylon, who discovered a palpable joy when Nehemiah and Ezra reminded them of God’s faithfulness and their identity as God’s people. Indeed, the joy of the Lord was their greatest strength.
JOY MOVES US TO SHAREShare Joy! is about recognizing the strength we enjoy because of God’s faithfulness and, in turn, mobilizing for ministry in ways that share this joy with others. We do this in worship, in our giving, in our outreach, and in how we care for the facility God has entrusted to us.
A REMINDER AND A COMMANDShare Joy! draws us back to a seminal truth about ourselves — we have been abundantly blessed by a gracious God.
Share Joy! is also a command that connects us to the “so that” of God’s blessing — we have been blessed so that we may be a blessing to others. The blessing we have to offer a hurting world is nothing less than the joy of the Lord, a joy that breeds strength and courage and patience and gratitude for daily living.
PLAN FOR 2019
APPEAL GOAL FOR 2019: INCREASE OFFERINGS BY $125,000
Imagine the joy we will feel as we meet our goal of increasing our giving by $125,000. Imagine the joy others will experience when we expand the reach of the ministry we share. Responding together as the Spirit leads us, we will be empowered to share the Joy of the Lord in 2019. Thanks be to God!
In 2019, we plan to make key investments that will broaden our capacity to share the joy of the Lord with the world.
SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOP!
The bell tower is a community landmark in need of repair. Over the next two years, we plan to restore the bell tower so that it can become a prominent witness to the joy of the Lord.
GO DEEP AND WIDE!
Sharing joy comes in all shapes and sizes. In the coming year, we are planning a number of exciting and innovative ministry expansions aimed at broadening our capacity to share the joy of the Lord:
Investing in our growing Vacation Bible School, seeing it as an outreach opportunity to our immediate neighborhood;
Funding an innovative Bible Immersion Camp;
Enhancing each worship space with seasonal art and technology upgrades;
Developing a LifeGroups resource library in support of our growing small group ministry;
Fostering relationships with Native American neighbors, both locally and on the reservations;
Enlarging our hunger ministry – doing more to help meet a growing need;
Extending our outreach through digital platforms.
PASS IT ON!
Heeding the command to share the joy of the Lord, in 2019 we will bolster our support of our ministry partners through our benevolence giving and thereby expand our missional reach beyond the walls of OSL.
KEEP IT REAL!
As costs continue to rise, we will intentionally invest in sustaining OSL’s ministry excellence by maintaining our campus and compensating our staff.
