CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE­

We­ have­ become­ accustomed­ to­ celebrating­ our­ Reunion­ at­ the

begining­of­May­with­the­same­annual­regularity­that­we­celebrate­the­festival

of­ Passover.­ ­ Both­ have­ the­ same­ theme­ ie­ Salvation.­ ­ There­ is­ however­ a

profound­ difference­ between­ the­ two.­ ­When­we­ celebrate­ the­ festival­ of

Passover­ we­ are­ reminded­ of­ what­ happened­ to­ our­ ancestors­ three

thousand­years­ago­but­when­we­celebrate­our­own­liberation,­ it­ is­we­who

are­the­redeemed­and­thus­living­witnesses­to­the­fact­of­history­that­like­the

exodus­from­Egypt,­will­be­remembered­always.

The­Links­which­join­us­are­many.­­Most­of­all­our­common­background,­and

our­ shared­ experiences­ and­ memories­ and­ they­ need­ no­ retelling­ at­ our

reunions.­­Fortunately­with­the­passage­of­time,­having­formed­ourselves­into

a­Society,­we­remember­not­only­the­past,­but­we­are­also­very­conscious­of

the­present­and­the­responsible­part­we­have­to­play­towards­our­community

and­people­less­fortunate­than­ourselves.­­Over­the­years­we­have­assisted­our

members­when­in­need­and­have­contributed­to­many­deserving­causes­both

in­England­and­in­Israel.­Thus­the­Reunion­has­assumed­an­additional­function

-­that­of­rasing­money­by­way­of­donations,­advertisements­in­this­brouchure

and­ raffle­ tickets.­ In­ the­ prevailing­ economic­ climate­ the­ demands­ on­ our

resources­are­constantly­growing­and­in­this­connection­I­wish­to­express­my

sincere­ thanks­ to­ all­ those­ who­ contributed­ so­ generously­ and­ for­ their

continued­support.

It­is­most­gratifying­that­the­2nd­and­3rd­generations­are­now­an­integral­part

of­ the­ ‘45­ Aid­ Society­ and­ our­ celebration­ is­ greatly­ enhanced­ by­ their

presence­and­their­contributions.

I­ would­ like­ to­ welcome­ you­ all­ tonight­ and­ would­ like­ to­ extend­ a­ warm

welcome­to­all­our­guests.

It­ gives­ me­ great­ pleasure­ to­ conclude­ my­ message­ by­ thanking­ our

committee,­many­of­whom­are­2nd­and­3rd­generation,­ for­ their­ invaluable

support.

World Jewish Relief is incredibly proud of its origins in

assisting refugees and survivors from Nazi occupied

Europe. We are particuarly proud of our continued

association with The Boys through the ‘45 Aid Society.

Their experiences, along with their generosity and spirit,

are a constant reminder of the importance of our work.
