Our monthly club meeting is on the second Thursday of every month except January at the Pizza Chef in Newburgh Indiana at 6:30 PM.

Evansville Bicycle Club, Inc. Mission Statement

The Evansville Bicycle Club Inc. is an organization formed to promote bicycling in the Tri-State area. We advocate bicycle safety and education in our local communities by participating in and support-ing health, fitness and cycling activities. The club provides the opportunity for cyclist of all ages and abilities to partake in cycling activities on a regular basis by offering a variety of rides weekly.

EBC is making an effort to assist in the successful conduct of the First Annual River City Bicycle Classic, professional bicycle racing, being held at Garvin Park. Our local team (Guitar Lab) is hosting and compet-ing. It is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. with races going on throughout the day. EBC will be participating conducting a rodeo from 10:30a.m.-12:30 p.m. We will also be maintain-ing a booth handing out information about the club. We could use two people to maintain our booth to answer questions about the club and

Paul Jensen The President’s Cornerwe need about eight members to help conduct the rodeo. Another brand new event this month will be the Evansville Streets Alive on June 23 from 11:00 a.m.--3:00 p.m. We could use 8 volunteers to help us with the rodeo plus two volunteers to maintain our booth in two shifts 10:45 a.m.—1:00 p.m. And then from 12:45-3:00 p.m. In addition EBC will begin the suc-cessful kids’ rides on Wednesday mornings that were started last year. ebc kids cornerWEDNESDAY MORNING KIDS RIDES IN JUNE!Keith Weyer - Youth Cycling Director

Our Summer Wednesday Morning Kids Rides will begin in June! Please note the following guidelines:

Wednesday Morning Kids Rides will start at 9:00 a.m. and rotate weekly between Garvin Park & Wessleman Park during the months of June & July. See the Ride Schedule in the Newsletter for Details! Youth Cyclists will receive a minimum of 10 miles for participating. Youth Cyclists must be accompanied by an EBC Member Parent or Grandparent. Parents may not just drop their Kids off and leave. Helmets are Required!

Any EBC Member is welcome to participate in the Weekly Wednesday Kids Rides. EBC Members will receive Mileage Credit for miles ridden with any of the Youth in

attendance, i.e. the same mileage that the Parent or Grandparent will receive for riding with the Youth. The Kids Rides will be ... “All About the Kids!”

We find the parks to be GREAT venues for these rides as the Kids can take advantage of amenities such as short circuit routes, partially shaded routes, the Greenway Passage, the Wesselman Nature Preserve, lakes, playgrounds, and slow moving vehicle traffic both during and after the rides.

Our monthly Saturday morning Dog-town 12 Mile No-Drop Ride is another Great Ride for Youth Cyclists. Youth Cyclists can also ride with a Parent or Grandparent at any time, on any route deemed SAFE by their parent, and may submit those miles toward a Youth Mileage Award. See the link to Youth Cycling on the EBC website for details: http://www.evansvillebicycleclub.org/youth-cycling If you have questions please contact Keith Weyer at: [email protected]

June 2 Morning Ride Greg Meyer, EBC member, local at-torney, and cycling advocate, has been working hard on new bicycle routes for the Warrick County Commission-ers in the Bluegrass area. They will be “unveiled” on Saturday June 2 at 9:00 AM. There will be some press there. He would like to have many cyclists there to show our support. Please come in your EBC jersey if possible to show our club support. There will be a very short cer-emony beginning at 9:00 at the corner of Boonville-New Harmony Rd. and Zoar Church Rd. Then cyclists will be free to ride any or all the designated routes, 36 miles total. There are 4 routes all on paved county roads. The routes extend like a clover leaf, each roughly 9 miles long with mostly right turns. The central trailhead at Boonville-New Harmony and Zoar Church Road intersection has a large sign with the map of the routes. Smaller road signs have been installed on the roads to identify each route by number and color. Please come support this event.

June 9 Morning Races Come support Evansville bicycle race team Guitar Lab as they sponsor the River City Bicycle Classic Races at Garvin Park. There will be lots to do and see. Children’s races are to be held after the adult races are finished. Lots of volunteer help is needed! Get more info at http://rcbclassic.blogspot.com

RACING RETURNS TO EVANSVILLEThe River City Bicycle Classic to take place in Garvin Park June 9, 2012

The River City Bicycle Classic criterium is set to take place in Evansville’s beautiful Garvin Park on June 9, 2012 as part of Evansville’s Bicentennial celebration. Evansville’s own cycling team, Team Guitar Lab, is pleased to be coordinating this exciting event along with communitysponsors and volunteers.

More than 200 professional and amateur cyclists from around the midwest will be descending on Garvin Park for a series of eight high-speed races and competing for cash & prizes. There will also be a celebrity and kid’s race. The event is free and open to the public. Racers can register at www.truesport.com.

The River City Bicycle Classic is a criterium-type cycling event. Criterium racing is purely American and one of the most com-mon forms of competitive cycling in the United States.

Designed for spectators, criteriums are races held on short cir-cuits, typically in an urban setting. The .7 mile closed course features several corners and give spec-tators the opportunity to view the race from most locations in Garvin Park. In criteriums, the pace is fast from the start as rid-ers average up to 30 miles per hour for the duration of the race. Quick acceleration and keen bike handling skills are paramount to success. These races often end in field sprints and typically a sprinter with the fastest finishing kick will win.The all day event begins at 10:00 am will feature local restaurant food booths, live music, kids entertainment, and exhibits. It is free and open to the general public.. The Evansville Bicycle Club will also be hosting a kid’s bicycle rodeo teaching bike safety. There will also be kid’s races for ages 2 to 12. Each participant in the bicycle rodeo and the kids race will receive a free bike hel-met. The event will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Evansville. For more information email: [email protected]
