Theo started as an old-fashioned apprentice in 1976 designing and building custom bicycle frames by hand. In 1987 he began travelling the world on a spiritual quest which resulted in graduating from the Naropa Institute in 1997 with a degree in ‘Musical Improvisation as a Spiritual Path’.

During his time at Naropa Theo bought and sold vintage instruments and mouthpieces as well as refaced mouthpieces under the tutelage of Bob Carpenter. In 1998 he moved to Philadelphia, PA, displaying his mouthpieces and refacing work, as well as doing saxophone repair, at the shop of master instrument repairman, Bret Gustafson. However, the demand for his mouthpieces quickly got overwhelming so Theo started his own company Saxophone Mouthpiece Heaven, which quickly became the world’s most comprehensive resource on the design and history of saxophone mouthpieces. Much of this knowledge is still available on Theo’s new website www.theowanne.com. The world’s top musicians such as Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Eric Alexander, Jan Garbarek, Tim Price, and many more came to work with Theo as word of his master craftsmanship spread.

In 2007, Theo started manufacturing his own line of mouthpieces and saxophones based upon the demands and feedback of his many famous clients. Theo utilized the most sophisticated design and manufacturing techniques on the planet to accurately and consistently reproduce these designs. Theo continues to work with many of the world’s top musicians such as Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright, Nelson Rangell and George Young continually improving his product.
