“Pre-K Pizza Palace” n PROGRAM OVERVIEW Pre-K Pizza Palace is a week-long interactive study focusing on four areas of the curriculum: Emergent Reading, Emergent Writing, Mathematical Thinking and Social Studies. The unit was taught in an 8 X 8 Pre-K inclusion classroom that contains 8 ESE students and 4 School Readiness and 4 Voluntary Pre-K students ages 3-5. Our study of the letter P began with a field trip to a police station, post office, park and the pizza parlor where the students made and ate their own pizzas. The rest of the week we set up our classroom as a pizza parlor. Each day was initiated by a new story about pizza then the students could choose the roles of: chef, waitress, deliveryman, customer, take-out operator, dishwasher, and cashier or change roles daily. They were able to take an order by phone or at the table with a form that had words and symbols. Then they could prepare the order by sequence, serve or deliver and take payment. They could act as customers role play societal opportunities They were also able to use the wheeled vehicle to deliver or to go through the drive-thru. n OVERALL VALUE Pre-K Pizza Palace became the subject of a newspaper article in our Pre-K newspaper with pictures to inform our parents of our activity.
