Happy November!

And, it is not cold yet!!! I can’t believe we are in November already. Thanksgiving is in a couple of weeks. Christmas is right around the corner. And we have a lot of events coming up to close out the year. The Rev it Up for Abby show is in a couple of weeks, Christmas parades, and our Christmas Dinner. Please ensure you let the points of contacts for each of the events know if you are participating. This is very important for the parades and Christmas dinner. This way the persons organizing the event for the club can account for our club participation with the event organizers. This year for the Christmas Dinner we will be at the Legends Club again. We are planning a great meal and a good time. Hope to see you at the meeting!! -Matt

From the Editor

Todd Smith

Wow! November is upon us! Hard to believe the year is almost over! Christmas will be coming soon, which means more car parts under the tree! Our Christmas party will be in place of the December meeting, so hope to see everyone there. Before you know it our National Show will be here as well. Hope to see a large turnout and lots of great vehicles. Always a great time for a great cause. I hope to have a few surprises in store for this next one. There are still plenty of events happening locally and close by to attend. We need to get more people involved as of late. It is always fun when a large group of mustangs roll up into an event. It’s even more fun for the drive over! We definitely get looks as we cruise down the roads. See y ’all at the meeting! Keep the shiny side up and between the lines! Why I Chose My Mustang

Steve Prewitt

Why Mustang?

I was one of those that was smitten by Mustang when it first came out. You see in 1965 I was 15 years old, in High School, and all about having fun. My best friend was fortunate enough (and his dad had money enough) to buy him a 65 HIPO coupe. Silver with black interior and fast. He did manage to total it within a year but luckily I wasn’t with him and he survived with minor scrapes and bruises. You will never believe what my first Mustang was. I was getting out to the Army in January of 1974, Beverly was expecting our oldest son, and we had a non AC 72 Grand Torino Sport, and were moving back to Memphis, Tennessee from Anchorage, Alaska. So in her condition she needed a car with AC. The Torino got traded for a new ’74 Mustang Coupe, red with black interior, 4 cyl, 4 speed, but it had the all-important and vital AC. Fast forward to 1989 and now that first son is 15 and his first car is a 65 Mustang coupe. We did a driver restoration on it and he drove it all through high school. He moved on to Thunderbirds when he finished High school, but right behind him was son number two. I picked up a 66 fastback that had been wrecked and he and I went to work on it. Dressed as a Shelby clone he drove his car though high school and moved on to a Ranger truck. Seems they both wanted vehicles with AC. Must have gotten that from their Mom. Well since the Mustang bug hadn’t bitten my sons as it had me in 1965, I decided it was time for me to have a 65 Mustang of my own. I found a 65 Convertible on William Few Pkwy, and was able to buy it for a reasonable price. Originally intending a driver restoration, the deeper I got into the car the worse it got. The wife came out to the shop one day and shaking her head said, “well now what”? My reply was I had no choice but to fix it right or junk it. That began my first rotisserie Concours Restoration. I subsequently did a 66 Coupe which I obtained from the original owner in South Augusta, and a 66 HIPO GT Fastback which today resides in a private collection in Zurich, Switzerland. I got my first “late model” Mustang when the Fox Body evolved into the SN 95 body style of 1994. Then a 98 Cobra convertible, a 92 LX convertible, a 2007 GT Convertible, a 2010 Shelby GT500 Convertible, a 2015 Limited Edition GT, and now a 2016 Shelby GT350. Along the way I also had another 66 Coupe and a 66 Convertible. So in total, I’ve owned 15 different Mustangs and enjoyed them all.

Many things have been said as to what makes the Mustang such a special car. To me when I get behind the wheel of my Shelby, it’s 1965 again and I’m in the HIPO coupe with my buddy tearing up the streets of Memphis, Tennessee. It’s all about making memories and they are still coming every time I fire it up.

Ford News and Notes

The current sponsor of MCA’s Youth Program is Ford’s Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program. https://www.drivingskillsforlife.com/

DSFL is a free non-profit program supported by Ford to teach young drivers all types of safety skills. It is a step beyond a standard driver’s education program. Please have your youth members and youth organizers go to their website and register. It will

ask if you belong to or heard about the program from one of the organizations they are affiliated with. Please be sure to have all members select Mustang Club of America. There are many resources on the website to help you develop a youth program in your regional club. The DSFL website is an excellent resource if you work with any high schools to host your annual car show DSFL will be reviewing our national show schedules each year to determine if they can hold a simultaneous youth driving event during the timeframe of the show. If so, the MCA youth committee will work with DSFL to determine if we can assist with transporting students to that location from host hotels and show sites. This will not create any additional work on the host club unless they have a youth committee and would like to be further involved. If your regional club has a robust youth group already and would like DSFL to hold a driving event in your local area, there is a place on their website allowing those who have registered to request information about DSFL events in their area. They use these requests to identify areas of greater interest.

YUK, YUCK!! This is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation between a US naval ship and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95. Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees south to avoid a collision. Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees north to avoid a collision. Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision. Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course. Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP. Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Three men were trekking through the desert and came across a magician. The magician was standing at the top of a slide. The magician than said, ''You may each go down the slide, asking for a drink. When you reach the bottom of the slide you shall land a a huge glass of that drink. The first man went down yelling, ''Beerrr!!!'' Plop! He landed in a glass of beer. The second guy went down the slide yelling, ‘lemonadeee!!!'' Plop! He landed in a glass of lemonade. The third guy went down the slide yelling ''wheeeeeeeee!!!'''
