Mark 9:37
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return
from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he
comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival”.
Luke 12:35

Do You Want To Minister/
Volunteer At The 10:30 Service?
We are looking for volunteers to help us test a video
system for the 10:30 Mass. This system will utilize a
large, HD flat screen monitor to display lyrics for music, announcements
and videos as requested by Fr. Ochoa. We already have the equipment
and looking for someone who is familiar with laptops and presentation
software to help us pilot this technology. Please reach out to Fr. Ochoa
or church office if you can help us get this started for the glory of Christ.

The Assumption
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a catholic holiday announced on 1 November 1950 by Pope Pius XII. It celebrates the day when the Holy Virgin Mary ended her earthly life and was taken to heaven together with her soul and body. However, already in earlier centuries, it was believed that Jesus glorified the body of his mother and took it to heaven making it similar to his and stressing the role of Mary in the history of salvation. On Thursday, August 15th, 2019 we celebrate this beautiful solemnity that in the United States is a Holy Day of Obligation.
Vigilant On His
Arrival
The sense of
anticipation for the
bride to arrive at a
wedding is exceptional. It gets even more interesting,
nerve-wracking for the groom if the bride comes late or
they haven’t seen each other before trying their new
beautiful dress and makeup. I even had celebrated
weddings in touristic places where there were twice as
many tourists as wedding guests. The tourists get their
phone out and take a video of the bride’s arrival as the
wedding march begins, and the two then walked up the
steps into the sanctuary.
You can’t wait to see what new technology can do? Or the
latest smartphone? Or a new sports car? You can’t wait to
see what God has stored for you in the future?
It’s not too far of a stretch to say that today’s Gospel talks
about the eager anticipation of the arrival of the kingdom.
Throughout his Gospel, Luke talks about the kingdom of
God as being present anytime Jesus is around. Jesus
brings the kingdom with him! “Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.” (Luke
12:37) But is this kingdom that Jesus describes like
medieval castles and the gallantry of knights and noble
ladies? The kingdom of heaven may be like that and
more, yet it is recounted in the scripture as something we
can start experiencing as well as building up now.
Certainly, we are challenged to be vigilant walking by
faith because we don’t know the time nor the hour when
we may be called before our maker to review how much
we accomplish in the mission entrusted through the
passing of this life.
We need to learn how to make space in life so that we can
be more attuned to spiritual realities that help us to
experience God’s kingdom. Maybe you are so bombarded
with all sorts of noise from the outside as well as the
inside. Learn to be in the solitude of prayer, asking the
Holy Spirit guidance in all the matters entrusted to you.
“Much will be required of the person entrusted with
much, and still more will be demanded of the person
entrusted with more.” (Luke 12: 39-48)
In light of the scripture, today, we should ask ourselves
important questions. What has been entrusted to me?
What am I doing with it? Am I bringing those entrusted
to me closer to the kingdom of heaven?

The intent of our St. Vincent de Paul group is to exemplify the loving actions demonstrated by the life of Jesus. Youth Ministry Opportunity!
We are excited to offer an
opportunity for the teens of our
parish to come together for some
fun and fellowship. We will be
gathering on the Mondays of
August (8/12, 8/19, 8/26) from 6:30—8:00 pm in the
field at Winchester Park. We will have games available,
as well as snacks, drinks, and music. We also encourage
the kids to bring friends, even if they don't come to St.
Denis. Because we are using town property, we are
required to have permission slips signed. We will ask
students to sign in on arrival so we can keep track of
everyone. This will be a chaperoned event. We look
forward to seeing you there!
