From Preacher Jeff... Study Psalm 27:1-6 from The Word of God. Gather a small group of believers and share truth together. Use the outline and notes below from a previous message (6:00 pm November 26, 2017) to spur conversation. Encourage one another! Start a small group today!
6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies
round about me: therefore, will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Psalm 27:6
“KEEPING A HEAD UP OVER THE ENEMY”
“Fear is the next door neighbor to faith. Faith and fear very often fight each other for mastery of the soul.” ---Dr. John
Phillips
I. Remember “WHO” God Is v1 David knows by personal experience “who” God is! David had personally seen God at work over the years in many trying and testy situations.
A. God Shines-“The LORD is my light…” B. God Saves-“…and my salvation” C. God Strengthens- “…the Lord is the strength of my life”
II. Be Confident in God’s Proven Power vv2-3 Through it all, David’s enemies had not been able to harm him! How many times can you remember God’s unfailing grace and goodness?! List examples of His proven power in your life. III. Focus On Intimacy with God v4
A. Know Him in Closeness “…dwell in the house of the Lord”
David was a “man after God’s own heart”! He had a passion for worship! Through worship…we get close to God! David was not a priest. He could NOT enter the holy of holies; however, that was the desire of his heart! He wanted to be there every day! In Psalm 23:6 David says, “And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever!” If you want to dwell there in eternity, then you should want to dwell there here on earth.
B. Know Him in Character “…behold the beauty of the Lord” C. Know Him in Covenant “…to inquire in his temple”
IV. Trust in God’s Plan of Protection v5a Where do you run in the time of trouble? To whom do you run? Rest in the secret hiding places of God. Hide in the dwelling place of God. Do not rely upon your own plans. David wanted the Lord to hide him and to help him! V. Stand Upon the Rock vv5b-6 “He shall set me up upon a rock.” The Rock is Jesus!
A. The Rock Will Lift You Up B. The Rock Will Change Your View C. The Rock Will Increase Your Faith
The Psalmist stops pouting and begins shouting! D. The Rock Will Release Your Joy
Songs of praise confuse the enemy and silence the critics! God loves you, and I love you!
Dear Church Family,
Exciting things are happening in the
Worship Ministry at SBC. We have many
opportunities for you to serve and now is a
great time to join if you are not already a
part of these ministries. Our Celebration
Choir that meets at 4:45 on Sundays is
always looking for people who love to sing
about Jesus. It’s open to anyone ages Student Ministry
through Senior Adult. There is no requirement to read music.
We are also always looking for people to expand our
Celebration Orchestra, which meets on Wednesdays at 6:00
in the Worship Center. If you have had at least 3 years of
experience playing an instrument, we would love to have
you. Contact me (423-349-6288) if you are interested in
being part of this group.
If you don’t sing or play an instrument, there is still a
ministry you can be a part of---Unspoken Praise is our
Signing Choir led by Lesia Owens. There is no signing
experience necessary to be a part of this group, which meets
in the Choir Suite on Wednesdays at 6:00. They will resume
practicing on August 14th
.
K.I.C.K. (Kids in Christ’s Kingdom), our Children’s
Choir, is open to ages Kindergarten – 5th
grade. They leave
the 6:00 Worship on Sunday nights during the Time of
Fellowship and rehearse in the Choir Suite. They will resume
practice on August 11th
. Our Student Worship Team, More
Than Motions, is open to students ages 6th
– 12th
grade, and
they meet in the Chapel on Sundays at 4:45.
We would love to have you come out and be a part of
these groups that help lead our worship. You are welcome to
visit to see what they are all about. Pray that the Lord would
lead you to a place to serve in our worship ministries here at
SBC. Feel free to call me (423-349-6288, ext. 33) or email
([email protected]) if you have questions.
God Bless,
Bro. Andy
