I wanted to share the story of my recent adventure with you! My dad took me out for my regular morning walk to the park where there is this really fun spot that I’m allowed to run around without my leash in the trees and paths. Every morning I run along the fence to smell the leaves and see who else has visited the park that day, and try as I may I can never find a way out. But last week I saw a fox on the other side of the fence and someone le the gate open - it was as if the world was telling me to get that fox...and I ran as fast as I could aer it! I forgot that my dad can’t run as fast as me, and I heard him calling me but I thought he was just cheering me on. That fox was so excing and kept looking back at me, taunng me to catch it...so I just kept running. It wasn’t unl I was really far from my dad that I realized that I was lost. Luckily a nice man found me sing all by myself and called Barrie Animal Control. They pulled out this big magic wand and ran it over my shoulders unl it beeped - they said they found my microchip. Now I don’t know what a microchip is - but I sure am glad I had one because the nice people were able to call my dad and let him know I was safe and waing for him. When we got home Dad told me that Simcoe Veterinary Hospital put my microchip in when I was neutered, and it has a unique number that is linked to contact informaon for my parents and vet clinic. He even told me that my cat, Madelaine, has one in case she ever runs away. If I hadn’t had a microchip, I would have been taken to the dog pound unl someone claimed me - that doesn’t sound like fun at all - I’d much rather be chasing foxes. Hi everyone - Wilbur here! I wanted to share the story of my recent adventure with you!

My dad took me out for my regular morning walk to the park where there is this

really fun spot that I’m allowed to run around without my leash in the trees and

paths. Every morning I run along the fence to smell the leaves and see who else has

visited the park that day, and try as I may I can never find a way out. But last week I

saw a fox on the other side of the fence and someone le the gate open - it was as if

the world was telling me to get that fox...and I ran as fast as I could aer it!

I forgot that my dad can’t run as fast as me, and I heard him calling me but I thought

he was just cheering me on. That fox was so excing and kept looking back at me,

taunng me to catch it...so I just kept running. It wasn’t unl I was really far from

my dad that I realized that I was lost. Luckily a nice man found me sing all by

myself and called Barrie Animal Control. They pulled out this big magic wand and

ran it over my shoulders unl it beeped - they said they found my microchip. Now I

don’t know what a microchip is - but I sure am glad I had one because the nice

people were able to call my dad and let him know I was safe and waing for him.

When we got home Dad told me that Simcoe

Veterinary Hospital put my microchip in when I

was neutered, and it has a unique number that

is linked to contact informaon for my parents

and vet clinic. He even told me that my cat,

Madelaine, has one in case she ever runs away.

If I hadn’t had a microchip, I would have been

taken to the dog pound unl someone claimed

me - that doesn’t sound like fun at all - I’d much

rather be chasing foxes.

The good news is I’m safe and sound - and I

tell everybody about how my microchip

helped to reunite me with my parents. Ask

the team at Simcoe Veterinary Hospital

about a microchip for your furry family.

GiardiaGiardia is a single celled parasite that lives in the intesnes of our pets causing serious infecon. Giardiasis occurs when dogs and cats swallow water contaminated with Giardia or come into contact with other substances soiled with contaminated feces – like puddles and lakes, or eang wet grass.

A dog becomes infected with Giardia when it swallows the cyst stage of the parasite. Once inside the dog's intesne, the cyst goes through several stages of maturaon. Eventually, the dog is able to pass infecve cysts in the stool. These cysts lie in the environment and can infect other dogs. They may also be transmied through drinking infected water. The typical drug used to treat Giardia is metronidazole, an anbioc-type drug. It is given for 5-7 days. Other drugs are also used if diarrhea and dehydraon occur. If metronidazole is not effecve, others are available.

Giardia can be transmied to people, and causes diarrhea in humans (oen referred to as beaver fever). Therefore, environmental disinfecon is important. To prevent yourself from geng infected we recommend washing your hands aer peng, as well as washing your dog's paws and bum at the beginning and end of treatment. This will wash away any cysts that may be stuck on the fur. And most importantly not geng any kisses while your pet is being treated.

common Symptoms: Ÿ Diarrhea or loose stools

Ÿ Flatulence Ÿ Voming

Ÿ Dehydraon Ÿ Poor Hair coat Ÿ Weight loss
