Computer Society of India ( CSI) is the first and largest body of computer professionals in India.
It was started on 6 March 1965 by a few computer professionals and has now grown to be the
national body representing computer professionals.CSI, an organization of repute, imparts IT
education to professionals both in academia and industry. The variety of events, seminars,
conferences and courses organized by CSI provide growth and in depth knowledge to the young
professionals.
JIS College of Engineering is the flagship institute under JIS Group Educational
Initiative spearheading professional education for over a decade (Established in 2000) with a
spectrum of 57 distinct verticals of professional programs at 25 educational institutions with a
staggering enrolment of more than 25,000 students. JIS College of Engineering is located at the
academic and industrial hinterland of Kalyani. Institute earned highest laurels in terms of
accreditation by NAAC – A’ Grade, NBA, and AICTE. The institute offers courses which are
approved by AICTE and affiliated to MAKAUT (formerly WBUT). The institution has been
awarded Autonomous status by UGC in the academic year 2011, which makes it the first of its
kind in West Bengal. The Institute nurtures engineering acumen of global standards, innovation
and professionalism entwined with the free and passionate environment of idea exchange, skill
enhancement with a focus on integrity, ethics and human values. The institute takes pride in

The Student Branch of Computer Society of India in JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani has
been inaugurated on 18th August, 2018 in presence of Devaprasanna Sinha, Regional Vice
President-II, Computer Society of India, Prof.(Dr.) J. K. Mandal, Ex Chairmam Kolkata chapter
& Professor, University of Kalyani, Gautam Hajra, Vice Chairman & Chairman elect, CSI
Kolkata Chapter, Sourav Chakrabory, Secretary, CSI Kolkata Chapter, Goutam Das, CEO-
insAnalytics, Dr. Sila singh Ghosh ,Vice President, Corporate Relation, JIS group, Prof. (Dr.)
Malay R. Dave, Principal, JISCE, Dr. D. R. Jana, Vice Principal JISCE, Dr. Sabyasachi Sen,
Dean R&D, JISCE, Dr. D.P Singh, Head, Dept. of CSE , JISCE, Mr. Sudipta Sahana, Asst. Prof,
CSE Dept. & Coordinator, CSI Student Chapter, JISCE, all the faculty members of CSE
department, and 100 CSI student members.
The Inauguration ceremony was started with lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, to seek the
blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Dr. Malay R Dave, Principal JIS College of Engineering,
welcomed everybody and stressed on the need for students to associate themselves with
organizations like Computer Society of India. Dr. Sila Singh Ghosh addressed the gathering with
her words on facilities available at JISCE followed by Dr. D. R. Jana, Vice Principal JISCE.
The Dignitaries’ of CSI Kolkata Chapter, Devaprasanna Sinha, Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Mandal, Gautam
Hajra, Sourav Chakrabory addressed about the scope, opportunities and different activities of
CSI. They stressed on organizing different tutorials, seminars, conferences through which the
student & faculty community will be benefited.
The ceremony was followed by a Technical Seminar on “Trends & Nuances of Data Analytics
Using Machine Learning”. The technical session was graced by Goutam Das, CEO-
insAnalytics, one of the top personnel who shared his experiences as an industry insider. His
captivating views captured the student members.
Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Mandal, Ex Chairmam Kolkata chapter & eminent Professor, University of
Kalyani, floored the audiences with his lecture on Image Processing, Security & Authentication.
The students found the lecture to be very interactive and informational.
Later half of the Technical Seminar was concluded by student members’ presentation on various
emerging topics in computer application like Brain Computer Interface, Home Automation Using
GSM Module + DTMF, Actions On Google, Sophia: Plans To Dominate Human Race, Introduction To
Google Soli Sensor, Volte and Wimax and Ethical Hacking.
A thanking note was presented to the dignitaries by Dr. Dharmpal Singh, Head, Department of
CSE, JIS College of Engineering.
More than 120 students were present in the programme. The programme was enlightening and
inspiring for students.
The programme was a grand success and paved way for many such endeavors in future.
