MASS TIMES AND REGISTRATION

Weekend Masses will begin in the Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes on the weekend of June 19/20 with the following Mass times: Saturday 5:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Sunday 8:00 am at St. Joseph Sunday 9:00 am at Blessed Sacrament (live-streaming will continue) Sunday 9:00 am at Our Lady of Victory (Polish) Sunday 10:00 am at St. Ursula Sunday 11:00 am at St. Agnes Sunday 11:00 am at Our Lady of Victory (Polish) Registration for Mass is required and is held on Wednesday and Thursday of each week between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, for the following weekend. You can register easily online through our website, www.ccfp.dol.ca, or by calling the parish office. Due to the 15% capacity allowed in the Church, for the time being we are asking parishioners to register and attend Mass every other week. We will not have a waiting list and unfortunately, we cannot take any walk ins. All previous protocols are still in place, those include but aren’t limited to physical distancing, sanitizing, following directions of staff and volunteers, as well as everyone wearing a face mask. If you have a medical exemption, please see the info in the next column regarding exemption requirements. Please note that registration for the weekend of July 3/4 will take place on Tuesday, June 29 and Wednesday, June 30 due to Canada Day. Weekday Masses will begin on Tuesday, June 15 with the following schedule: Tuesday 9:00 am at St. Ursula Wednesday 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Victory Thursday 9:00 am at Blessed Sacrament (live-streaming will continue) Friday Noon at St. Joseph

There is no need to register for weekday Mass. It is on a first come, first serve basis. Confessions will resume on Saturday, June 19 beginning at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament. Please remember that if you do not feel comfortable returning to Mass, Bishop Fabbro has extended the dispensation of Sunday obligation to Sunday, September 5, 2021. Please read further in the bulletin for ways to celebrate Mass at home.

INFORMATION ABOUT WEARING OF MASKS

We taking every reasonable precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our churches and protect parishioners. Those who attend Mass or other services without a mask and without a valid exemption are violating municipal and provincial COVID-19 restrictions and putting fellow parishioners at risk. Per Bishop Fabbro, starting January 1, 2021, if you have a medical exemption for wearing a mask, you will be required to bring to the pastor evidence from your physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, psychologist or occupational, respiratory or physical therapist attesting to your condition. Once you do so, you will be provided a document to bring to Mass each time. When you register for Mass, please let them know you have been granted an exemption, so that you can be seated in a designated area. We will still ask that you wear a mask briefly to enter and exit and to receive Communion, unless your disability prevents you from doing so. Those who refuse to comply with this diocesan regulation will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to attend Mass until they agree to wear a mask. We are aware that this new protocol does go beyond the requirements in most health unit orders and local by-laws, but they are required to protect the safety of our parishioners, parish teams and volunteers while on church property. Infections continue to increase in our communities and small sacrifices like wearing a mask can slow the transmission of the virus, and are a sign of our love for our neighbours and help prevent people from taking advantage of the exemptions for personal reasons.

Footnotes: Above information was taken from December 1, 2020 COVID-19 Update from Bishop Fabbro (Update #13) - found at www.dol.ca.

Please note that face shields and/or plastic masks are not an appropriate replacement for a face mask. From the Ontario.ca website regarding face shields:

Face shields do not replace masks or face coverings.

A face shield is used to protect the eyes of the person wearing it. Using a face shield without a mask won’t protect:

• You from potentially inhaling infectious respiratory droplets exhaled by others

• Others from your infectious respiratory droplets, as they can escape around the face shield

DEACON’S PEN

Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM, in one of his Daily Meditations tells us that “the goal of all spiritual work, including prayer, sacraments, Bible study, and religious services of any type is not personal or private perfection, but surrender, love, and union with God.” Every person begins their faith journey with many questions, and little depth of genuine faith. Then, over time, given that we do actively engage in our own spiritual growth and development, our faith begins to grow. As Jesus tells us in His parable this Sunday, we do not know precisely how this happens – that is a mystery. What is important for us to understand is that the goal of our spiritual work is genuine surrender, love, and union with God. This goal is totally achievable when we are willing to do our part! For our part, we are all being called to surrender to our risen Lord, subordinating our pride and our ego, and opening our hearts and our minds to being led actively and intentionally by the Holy Spirit. Next, we are being called to embrace genuine merciful love in every aspect of our lives. The definition of love that speaks most profoundly to me is: “love is an unselfish, loyal, and benevolent concern for the good of another, or for the good of others” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Then, ultimately, we are being called to enter full communion with our risen Lord in this life and in the next. Entering a personal encounter with Jesus requires a personal choice on our part, and a genuine commitment to take positive action. Each of us must make our own conscious choice, and then actively embrace a life of prayer, Bible study, participation in the Sacraments and regular participation in the celebration of the Holy Mass. It is also most beneficial to make many sincere Spiritual Communions every day. Being actively involved in a deeply personal relationship with Jesus is the most beautiful, the most profound experience of any Christian life. Yours in Christ, Deacon Steve

MIGRANT WORKER MINISTRY OUTREACH How We Can Help

Every year we are blessed with many workers who come to help with the work needed to harvest food on our local farms. These people who come to work and live among us are our neighbours and our parishioners. They leave their country to earn a living, so that they can send support back home to their families.

Since COVID has begun our Migrant Workers Ministry has not been able to provide Masses in Spanish, gathered meals, or ministry visits for those who come to work and are far away from their families.

We can help! The Migrant Workers Ministry are preparing Welcome Bags with toiletries, personal items and prayer aides in Spanish and more. The bags will be delivered to the men during June. They are inviting us to help with the cost of putting these bags together.

Please pray and consider a monetary donation. Donations can be made via:

• Cheque – payable to St. Joseph Parish; “Migrant Workers Ministry” in the memo line

• E-transfer – [email protected] “Migrant Worker Ministry” in the Note section

• Cash or Cheques can be dropped off in the white locked drop boxes at St. Agnes or St. Ursula

We are asking that donations be submitted by June 21.

Thank you for your support and part in welcoming these men to our community!
