Greetings, Celebration Thanksgiving Service: We were excited to announce Tuesday night at our Thanksgiving Celebration Service that we have surpassed our Vic-tory Goal of $450,000 with an amount of $570,330.00 in total Family Commitments to our cam-paign. Praise God for this tremendous Victory! That announcement is both an encouragement and a challenge as we move forward. It is an encouragement because, not only did we pay off our Family Life Center Debt in 2014, but we also turned around and committed ourselves financially to giving over a half a million dollars toward our new sanctuary. This announcement, however, is also a challenge. I say challenge because we are now close to reaching our Challenge Goal of $650,000. We still have over a hundred families in our church who have not yet responded to our Campaign by filling out a commit-ment card. Pray that we will now move forward even further as we reach this Challenge Goal for the glory of God as we “Build for Life.” Last Wednesday night November 19th was our Annual Business Meeting. Everything in the meeting went very well as we voted upon our leadership, passed the 2015 Budget, and heard many encouraging reports from our ministry leaders. As I shared in my report, this has been another banner year for Grover. Since our annual meeting last year, we have had 66 people join our church and we baptized 24—up 8 people from last year. We also set another 10-year record in average worship attendance with 377 worshippers. While we do not include in this number all of the people who watch our services online, it is praiseworthy to note that another 100-150 people share our services weekly online. As mentioned above, one of our huge accomplishments this year was the paying off of our debt for which we celebrated

in the Note Burning Service in October. Having now completed the larger part of our Building for Life Campaign, we look forward early next year to voting on a date to break ground for our New Worship Center. We are wrapping up the month of November on a positive note as we conclude our “Five Course Feast

of Thanksgiving” sermon series. We have looked thus far at the Basis of Thanksgiving, the Hope of

Thanksgiving, the Focus of Thanksgiving, and the Benefits of Thanksgiving. This Sunday Pastor Brent will

be concluding the series with The Free Invitation of Thanksgiving (2 Tim 2:1-13) as we begin our Week of Prayer for International Missions. Our children’s Ministry will be presenting the Parade of Flags Ceremony on November 30th in a special

emphasis that will focus on inviting people to Christ around the world. Our goal this year for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $9,000.00. We are also now collecting food for our Christmas Store. This is the 41st year that the Christmas Store has worked to provide a Christmas Meal for individuals in need. Last year the Christmas Store served 1297 individuals. The grocery

bags for the store this year are in the foyer and need to be returned to the church by December 7, 2014. A list of needed groceries is also on each shopping bag. It is hard to believe that we will be having our Living Nativity just one week from this Friday and Saturday on December 5-6 from 6-8 pm. It is not too late for you to become involved in this wonderful outreach ministry of our church that ministers to hundreds of people in our community every

year. The Nativity will be bigger and better than ever this year with the addition of a live camel along with all of the other animals that will be a part. If you would consider being one of our actors, just give us a call. You can begin now by helping us get the word out early.

Our Christmas Musical this year is going to follow our Living Nativity on Saturday and Sunday, December 13-14, at 7:00 p.m. with a matinée on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. This is one of those events that you will want to begin inviting people to attend even now as we help get the word out. The title of the musical this year is “A King is Coming to Town.” There are fliers in the foyer that you can pick up and hand out to your family and friends in the community.

Our Christmas Eve Services on December 24th will be at 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. this year. As al-ways, we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper and sharing a special Candlelight Service togeth-er that night as a church. We will be singing familiar carols and hearing beautiful Christmas music together. Please use all of our Christmas events and fellowships as opportunities of reaching people in our commu-nity for Christ. Blessings, Pastor Randy

Will you celebrate the Christmas season by enjoying and sharing the

Christmas Chorale and Drama Department presentation, “A King is

Coming To Town”??? Here’s a peak at what’s to come.

The program will open with a trumpet ensemble playing a majestic 3-part arrangement of, “O Come, All Ye

Faithful”! The trumpets will be followed by a vocal octet singing a special four-part song, “Bell Carol”. This is a

clever arrangement of “Carol of the Bells”. These two selections are sure to set a festive mood for the important

message(s) to come.

The full Chorale’s opening musical selection, “A King is Coming to Town”, is the focal piece for this year’s pro-

gram. It’s upbeat style and lyrics proclaim and make way for the Christmas message. They include:

Shepherds were out on a hillside, watching their flocks by night; When an angel of the Lord stood before them and

their hearts were all filled with fright. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid of me. There’s a reason that God

sent me down. Good tidings of joy I bring to you, a King is coming to town. Get up, go find your promise, leave

ev’rything behind. Sorrow and mourning are over, it’s celebration time. Sin will not rule any longer, God’s love

and grace now abound. Things aren’t gonna be the way that they’ve been anymore. A King is coming to town.

Focus then shifts to our Savior’s birth with the Chorale singing, “Cradle Carol”, and “Jesus, O, What a Wonder-

ful Child”. A second vocal octet singing, “O Come, Little Children”, follows these. “Cradle Carol”, a beautiful

ballade, includes the following lyrics:

Before the paling of the stars, before the winter morn, before the earliest dove could sing, Jesus Christ was born.

Priest and King lay fast asleep in Jerusalem, young and old in slumber deep in crowded Bethlehem. Born in a

stable, cradled in a manger, in the world His hands had made, Jesus, born on this day.

The Chorale continues with a fine arrangement of, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” followed by my current favor-

ite song in the program, “Is There Room in Your Heart for a King?” Its lyrics include:

On a cold, dark night, a knock upon the door, a man seeks a place for a child to be born. But door after door, the answer is the same: “There is no more room,” and he is turned away. With pity they think of the stranger outside, so unprepared on this night of nights. All the while they pray and wait, but cannot see they were not prepared for the birth of a King. Is there room in your heart for a King? Are you waiting expectantly? When He comes to the door, will you be prepared? Is there room in your heart for a King?

The next two chorale selections are as joyful as their titles indicate. They are,

“Mary Had a Baby/Joyful, Joyful”, and “A Joyful Night”. I guarantee their uplift-

ing and triumphant nature. The program concludes with a reprise of “A King is

Coming to Town” and maybe even another trumpet ensemble number!!

As if the musical selections weren’t enough to keep your interest, the GPBC dra-

ma department, between songs, will present what I believe are very powerful mon-

ologue reflections from Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth, The Inn Keeper, A Wiseman,

and A Shepherd. I have listened to them multiple times and am blessed each and

every time I hear them. I think you will LOVE them!!

GPBC… We can make a difference in our church and greater community this Christmas season by living in the

truth of the good news and letting everyone see OUR King “come to town”. I hope, in the midst of the hustle

and bustle of the holiday season, that you will make time to energize yourself in the light and remember that Je-

sus’ birth was in fact one of the most unique, miraculous events in all of history.

I encourage you to pray for your friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family members during this season. Pray

that they would be ready for this Christmas season and that they would not miss the miracle of Jesus’ birth. Be

confident in our Music and Drama Ministries and invite them to the GPBC production, “A King is Coming to

Town”, on December 13th or 14th. I promise you that they’ll have to practically be asleep to miss the proclama-

tion of the King we are speaking of and the miracle of His birth. J

December: A month of Opportunities

Every year, the holiday season becomes one of the darkest times of year

for depression & suicide. People are hungry for good news and there is

no better news that the Gospel! This is one reason that we as Christians

must be quick to share the good news of Christ & extend invitations to the wealth of activities taking

place at Grover this month. In the month of December in addition to our usual Sunday services, we

will have 3 Wednesday night dinner fellowships, two nights of Living nativity, three performances of

the Christmas Program, two special Christmas Eve services, one night of Christmas caroling, & nu-

merous Sunday School class fellowships. This doesn’t even include the gatherings and ministries in

our children’s & youth gatherings if you should interact with someone with young ones. If you are

currently connected to a Sunday School class, take the opportunity this month to personally invite

one person with you to join you in class. That person may or may not already be connected to our

church family. There are many members and visitors who may sit around you in the worship service

who have never personally been invited to a Sunday School. God will bring at least someone into

your path this month just waiting for someone to reach out to them. Will that someone be you?

Intentional Christmas Gifts Parents & Grandparents, as you begin and finish off your Christmas shopping lists, allow me to give you a few sugges-tions. Bellow are a few key items that your student will not only enjoy, but see the purpose of the particular gift as they look forward to retreat weekends, mission trips, and growing in their walk with Christ. • A tool for ministry: I recommended it last year, but I have to say it again, you can’t go wrong with a cot! You can

find them at Walmart for around $35. I can’t tell you how much of a blessing a cot is for ones back compared to the floor. On mission trips, retreats, camping nights, or other events, the cot will help to provide for better rest which means a better experience. They are easy to pack and will outlive an air mattress any day of the week.

• A tool for the mind: It’s so important to begin building your home & your students library. Even if they are not readers, we need to encourage them and demonstrate the value of study. Otherwise they will get eaten alive in the next stage of life. ◊ A One Volume Bible commentary. No commentary is perfect, but a good commentary can be a dolid refer-

ence for use as a fall back to hear another’s thoughts on a passage. One of the more regarded single volume commentaries is, The New Bible Commentary by IVP published in 1994 ($30ish dollars).

◊ A good study Bible. I often get this question. I have no hesitations in recommending the ESV Student Study

Bible Hardcover edition ($28). It’s a good tool, with great resources inside. You can always upgrade if you want, but I wouldn’t go less than the hardcover. It also passes the “looks test” which means your teen will have no anxieties toting it around into their 20s.

◊ A systematic theology book. Again, there is no perfect systematic theology book. We always go the Bible book by book to appreciate and best grasp the context of the passages. With that said, a good systematic the-ology book can be a helpful resource for gaining sound theology at a quick pace. You can pick up Wayne Grudem’s “Systematic Theology” right now on Amazon for $25ish & occasionally it will be in the bargain sec-tion at Mardel’s for cheaper.

◊ A defense of the faith book. If our students don’t learn to think critically, they stand no chance. Instead of recommending a mountain of resources, I want to just give you with two. “When Critics Ask” by Norman Geisler & Thomas Howe. You can pick it up used on Amazon for $13. The book covers 100’s of answers to difficult passages, many of which skeptics & Bible critics will be ready to bring up both now and in the years to come. “Tactics: A game plan for discussing your Christian Convictions” by Gregory Koukl for about $13. We had a Life U class last year on this book. It is pivotal that all adults be armed with such resources.

Hey Guys, Mark here; what a great time we had at the Thanksgiving feast! It’s so great to see generations hanging together, loving Jesus and loving each other! One of the things that we talked about in Kids Church was not losing our heads! Samson lost his head when he let Delilah shave it. God told him not to do it. Sometimes we lose our heads and lose control of ourselves. Some of our students mentioned that when we feel ourselves getting real angry we can do things like take 5 deep breaths and pray to God, to help us keep our heads. Sometimes we can lose

our head amongst the business of the holiday season. But Christmas is all about Jesus, God coming down in flesh to be the perfect sacrifice that we could never be. He died on the cross for our sins, and that’s the best holiday news ever!

Speaking of amazing holiday news, have you met Teresa Gib-son? Teresa is our Sunday School Director. She does such an amazing job equipping our teachers and helping to make our kids hallway “come to life.” She has clocked in literally hours of time working in that hallway, working in our Resource room, and doing other things around our kids area. As an educator, Theresa brings a level of experience that is both cherished and

respected. We are so grateful for all that Teresa does.

The Women’s Ministry is planning a trip to First Baptist Church Raytown

to see their annual Christmas Pageant “The Unseen”,

on Sunday December 7th,

leaving immediately after the 3rd Worship Service.

Girlfriends Class Christmas Party!

On Saturday December 13, 2014, we are going to Sedalia to the Mason Jar on Ohio Street

(formerly the Tea Room). We are going to leave the church at 10:00 a.m. and taking the

church van. We are planning a brunch there and then to take in a couple of specialty shops

for some Christmas shopping. It is a short order shop with a bakery. Everyone will be order-

ing off the menu. We will be doing a craft or ornament exchange while we are there, so you

will need to bring something under $10 for the exchange. There is a sign up sheet in the Girlfriends Classroom.

GPBC on Mission

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always,

even unto the end of the world. Amen” - Matthew 28:19-20

Instead of sending His disciples back to the house of Israel, they were sent into the world. The kingdom rejected by the Jews is now offered to the Gentiles in accordance with Jesus earlier parables. The Great Commission brings the Gospel of Matthew to its grand finale. The triumphant, living Lord sends forth His ambassadors to proclaim His gospel throughout the entire world. Christ’s empowerment

of the Church to evangelize the World is available to every generation of believers.

November 30 starts the Week of Prayer for International Missions. We kick the week off with our Parade of Flags during the second and third services. The Flags are carried by our precious children. This is a very inspirational ceremony and the

children love being part of it. Each one of you can be part of this ministry to share the word throughout the World. Our goal for 2014 is $ 9,000.00. We have not increased this amount for a few years although we have gone

over this amount each and every time. Please pray about the amount you can contribute to the spreading of our Father’s Love.

We delivered our Christmas Child boxes this last week. The total number this year was 90.

In 2013 we sent 137 boxes and in 2012 we sent 141. I have a friend that travels to Milwaukee where they sort the boxes and shares that they are blessed in so many ways with what they find in the boxes for children of the world. In our last meeting in

Jefferson City, we had a speaker that works with the Christmas Child ministry over the world. She shared that during the arrival of the boxes she witnessed a young boy open his box. He had a wash cloth and towel in it. The emotions were high when he pulled these out and cried “my own body cloth”. He was

in an orphanage and when they showered it was done by pecking order, meaning the oldest and on down. He said by the time it was his turn with one body cloth it was worn out and nasty, now he had his very own.

How many of our children would be excited to receive a wash cloth and towel?

If you have signed up to be part of the Live Nativity please be aware that costume try on are being held again. If you have not been able to try yours on please contact Rene Mayden. We are having folks that signed up not being able to participate. We are also asking that

each of you pray for nice weather. It would be great if the temperature was warm also, meaning 40s and 50s. Thank You to each and every one of you

that are working and praying for this gift to the Community.
