“As a Feinstein Leadership School we are committed to teaching our students to be caring of others.”
For the past three years,
Westport Elementary
school has adopted the
Character Word of the
Month Program. Each
month teachers are
asked to “Catch” their
students in the act of
doing right. Teachers
nominate students in
their classroom that ex-
hibit the chosen
Character Word of the
Month. Character words
encompass traits like
Trustworthy, Respectful,
Caring, Kindness and Re-
sponsibility. We are
proud of our students and
how they have met this
program.

Pasta for Patients Collects over $4,000 Spring 2015
We are pleased to report that over $4,000 has been collected during the WES Student Council Pennies for
Pasta Event. Sam, a representative from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society led an informational Fund-
raising Kickoff for Pennies to Pasta, a service learning project. The children were taught all about blood
cancers and how the program would benefit people struggling through the disease. The Red Blood Cells (1st
hula hoop), The Platelet (2nd hoop) helps us to clot when we have scrapes and cuts, The White Blood Cell
(3rd hula hoop) attack the viruses. Using the Hula Hoops, Sam showed the students how easy it was to per-
form a duty as a healthy cell or platelet. Then she added additional students INTO each hula hoop, making
it difficult for each hoop to spin, showing children what it would be like for a sick cell or platelet.
Student Council Collects Socks &
Celebrates on Crazy Sock Days - Fall 2015 Members of the student council, in their Crazy Socks, greet students and staff
with Hi-5’s and words of thanks. These days are done in conjunction with the
Student Council’s drive for socks that result in sock and monetary donations.
Thanks to the Student Council members and their advisors Mrs. Bacchiocchi
and Mrs. Rego for their efforts. In the past students have raised money for the
Harmony House in New Bedford and Walk for Jane (Dana Farber).
Alan Shawn Feinstein is founder of the Feinstein Foundation, dedicated to helping the needy and
encouraging youngsters to do likewise. His campaign to fight hunger has raised over $2.5 Billion for
thousands of anti hunger agencies nationwide. There are now over 250,000 Feinstein Jr. Scholars!
Caregiving continues on to our Student Council!
January 2014, our student council had
a write up in The Chronicle newspa-
per. The Council in conjunction with
Bay Coast Bank had relabeled them-
selves as the WES Junior Givers.
Modeled after BayCoast Bank’s Just
Right Program, the JR Givers spend
much of their meetings brainstorming
ideas what will brighten the day of
others in the school community.
They have created Thank You’s for
local Veterans, sent over 500 cards to
enlisted troops overseas, greeted stu-
dents and staff in the morning, fund-
raised for local charities, and bring to
the school community a feeling of
friendship and caring.

Dear Graduate,
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to see you again before the end of school. I want you to know how
proud I am of you for all of the good deeds you have done to help others. You truly do make
the world a better place.
I hope you will always remember your school and your teachers and how special you years here
were. Maybe, someday, you will even send your school a gift to remember you by– that they
would thank you for in their yearbook that year, to inspire their students then…
Take care, my Feinstein Jr. Scholar. You will always have a special place in my heart.
Your Friend,
Alan Shawn Feinstein
