Shifting the focus …
• Web 1.0 is an electronic version of existing content
• Value is generated by aggregating content within portals
• Publishing technologies are complex and slow to implement
• Web 2.0 is an interactive collaborative environment
• Blogs e.g. Dell hell, You Tube, Flicker
• Wikis e.g. Wikipedia
• Mash-Up e.g. iGoogle, RSS feeds etc
• Hosted Service e.g. Google spreadsheets, Ikea bathroom designer
• Social Networking Websites e.g. Facebook, My Space etc.

3What happens if we put Business and Technology together?© Capgemini 2008 Andy Mulholland
So against this background what is ‘Mobility’ ….
Any Device?
A Service?
A Smart Phone?
A Capability?
Technology?
People?
An application?
Middleware?
Cloud Computing?

What can we achieve by using all of these technologies well?
Case Study; Amazon
from selling books to providing Business Platforms and Technology Resources
BUT now to the next stage! The Kindle (it kindles your interest)
Unique ValueUbiquitous
Connectivity
Business ServicesDelivery Platform
Pooled TechnologyCapacity

Business Model + Technology Model = Innovation
Case Study; Nike +
From selling sports shoes to creating involvement and excellence around running
Some facts; Sports Kit Sensor $29 1.3 million bought
Nov. 2008 Sports Band $59 .5 million bought
Total Sales worth $89 million and 1.8 million users
August 2008; 800,000 people globally simultaneously run a 10km race in 26 cities
Share of the Sports Shoe market; 2006 – 48% 2008 – 61% (12 month average)

So Where does Mobility fit to the Enterprise?
Ubiquitous connectivity
Services on demand
Standardised Environments
Unlimited computing power
Thin clients
Etc …
It’s Cloud Computing and Cloud Services!
8What happens if we put Business and Technology together?© Capgemini 2008 Andy Mulholland
Its called Cloud Computing because;
There is a lack of predetermined logical architecture as it thrives on ‘Virtuality’.
This is Virtualisation taken to the next level, beyond just internal resources!
Many more small services, in ever changing orchestrated processes,
increasingly externally oriented with an uncertain demand pattern will drive the
demand longer term = Cloud of Services= Everything as a Service, XaaS
Short term the cost and flexibility will the dominant issue in cost controlled times
= Software as a Service, SaaS= Processing as a Service
=Storage as a ServiceEtc, etc
Inside the Cloud is a Mesh of connectionsto ‘Services’ of all types

Introducing Business Technology running on Cloud Computing
Web 2.0The Web as a Platform
Harnessing Collective Intelligence
Data as the next Intel inside
End of the Software release cycle
Light weight programming models
Software above the level of a single device
Rich User Experience
Enterprise 2.0 Services, not packaged software, with
cost-effective scalability, control over unique, hard-to-recreate data sources
that get richer as more people use them Trusting users as co-developers
Harnessing collective intelligence Leveraging the long tail through
customer self-service .
Software above the level of a single device. Lightweight user interfaces, development models, AND business
models
Business TechnologyThe combination of a new group of
Technologies with new Business Capabilities that are used in a wholly different manner to
IT and create ‘value’ to external business opportunities rather than the role of IT to
reduce costs of Internal administration and compliance. Called BUSINESS and not
INFORMATION technology as its focus is on the Business Model and the Business
Architecture alignment

And the result is…
Think of all the relationships between the various elements of ‘the car’
– Buy, Rent, Finance
– Service
– Repair
– Tax
– Insure
– Police
– Fuel
– Directions
– Hotels
– Restaurants
– Congestion
– Parking
That’s the Business Model – now think of the Technology Model
And ‘use’
That’s What Cloud Computing is all about!
