Impact of Western Culture on India Introduction- Every day we all come across the topic of westernization and its impact on Indian culture through social media, blogs, debates, etc. Is Westernization good or bad? Difference between the Chinas model of modernization and Indias westernization. Through this paper I will try to research on the same going to the roots of the issue. The result surely depends on the peoples perspective but analyzing a change has always been important to make further changes to resist the deteriorating transformation if any. Everyone agrees that theres quite a shift or a gap between ideas of older generation and new generation people and that is diminishing day by day, thanks to globalization and worldwide internet connectivity making whole world a small village. Digital media, our Prime Ministers new mission will surely build the gap through his fruitful efforts. There are some questions which need to be addressed and discussed like- Are some Indians facing identity crisis due to Westernization? I would cite many current happenings and the incidents from the past about the same. I will put in perspective of both older and younger generation and at the end I am not expecting an objective result but clear picture with which everyone can relate to on the basis of their choices and lifestyle. Westernization does not have its roots very far from where we are today. So, it is easy to follow the trace of transformation and understand the real reason behind it to form an opinion.

Why and how did you choose the topic? I wanted to choose a topic which I myself is inquisitive about so at the end it will be knowledgeable for me too and will surely be interesting to work on. I am an avid reader and also often I have quite a discussion-cum-debate about this that whether westernization did any good to India or not? Every time I used to think for those moments and then skip but now I have got an opportunity to explore the topic to the core and hope it will be helpful to others too. One other reason is that if we give some deep thoughts India has changed a lot in these 60-70 years because of it. So, its worth understanding the change and the ways it affects peoples life.

Methodology My research will be a qualitative research. Through this research I will try to dive deep into the underlying reasons and motivations of the change and social trends. Further, I will try to conduct interview or questionnaires to gain the current insights from different age group to form an opinion. Research of this topic certainly involves reading so I will be surely referring to the blogs, articles and books for the same. Below mentioned links and books are not all but till now this what I have discovered.I will include quotations, references and news articles compendium. I would also try to show some videos of debates on the idea that is essential to be brought out.In the final report I will also include my personal beliefs before doing research and after. So, basically the structure of report would be- First Introduction about westernization, then westernization in India, pros and cons, different peoples views, general outline based on age group if there is, quotations, articles and compendiums, than my personal belief. Modernity at large: cultural dimensions ofGlobalization -Arjun Appadurai A Sociology ofGlobalizationSaskia Sassen Imperial nature: The World Bank and struggles for social justice in the age ofGlobalization-Michael Goldman. Social Change in Modern India- M.N Srinivas

There are numerous other articles and debates which I will be referring to and will be quoting if found useful

Research QuestionsPresently, I have following questions in my mind and surely there are more to come. Why western culture was or is so popular in India after globalization? Its origin. Westernization surely lead to a new lifestyle but what problems did India faced coping with it? Is there a gap or difference in perspective of youth and older generation? Why? In coming time there will be a saturation point, so would not India will forget its past and age old traditions if it continue to survive with western culture forgetting our own. What are the other countries influenced by westernization? Is there situation any different from India?

Conclusion

Surely I am not expecting an answer in no or yes form. But at the end I am sure I will get the result with which everyone will be able to relate to. Well, the logic and idea goes very deep and is really ambiguous but surely I will be able to draw a picture of future Indias journey from its past. Somewhere, even if youth supports westernization so due to inferiority complex they are bound to follow it. So, clearly there must be a line between youth and older generations ideas. Reasons for the western culture being so prevalent.I think the result of above research of huge importance to the nation builders and thinkers and all those who worry about loss of Indian culture. I am expecting to get whether it is in any way harming our culture or not? Is there a loss in tradition since westernization? Well there is going to be a lot of confusion between causation and correlation pertaining to westernization so the topic certainly need scholarly backup and ideas of big thinkers.
