    This project !ill simulate using *+A modelling the surfacepressure eperienced by a force sensitive resistor used as arelative pressure sensor on the eterior of pipes. Thesimulation !ork !ill also look at ho! leaks in the pipe aectthe measured pressure.

    This project !ill develop a system to harvest thermalenergy from underground pipes. #t !ill develop the systemto be attached to !ater pipes and to harvest energy fromthe temperature dierence bet!een the pipe !all and thesurrounding ground. The system !ill be based around athermoelectric generator.

    This project aims to produce a prototype array of coupledmechanical oscillators using doorbell ringer typemechanisms. The ringer is an autonomous impact oscillator!hich makesbreaks a drive circuit to create an oscillatingelectromagnetic force. /oupled arrays of oscillators resultin synchronisation and locking. The project !ill producesimple coupled oscillator systems and investigate thedynamics of the systems.

    This project !ill investigate micro vacuum pumpingsystems. Macro scale molecular pumps often !ork bymomentum transfer to the gas molecules from high speedrotating vanes. At the micro scale this can be mimicked byvibrating cantilevers. This project !ill develop a model0using Matlab&imulink of the pumping of gas by a

    vibrating cantilever.

    This project !ill develop a strain sensor based on a 3eiblesilicone material that is engineered to have a crack in it,the crack !ill be metallised !ith a thin layer of metal.4hen the 3eible material is stretched the crack opens upreducing the number of metal contact points. This gives astrain sensitive resistor that is of very lo! stiness, idealfor measuring the stain in soft materials, i.e. tyre rubber.
