Owner Operator, Operations Consultant
In my role as owner operator of my own business I have had the opportunity to work on some
large projects in a variety of process plant environments.
This role included; designing learning and development systems, facilitation of workshops
aimed at developing numerous operations manuals, procedures, assessments and e learning
systems for various clients.
Over the past five years I have been engaged in the role of consultant with the following
companies:
Orica Chemnet: Operations Consultant for acid handling, process control and
process plant operation. This included the development of a comprehensive training
and development manual for Orica’s Port Kembla site. (9 month project)

Orrcon Large Pipe & Tube: Operations Consultant for manufacturing process
control and process plant operation. This involved the development of a complete
learning and development suite including 16 operator training manuals. (12 month
project)
MM Kembla: Operations Consultant for hot metal and manufacturing process control
and process plant operation. This project involved the comprehensive development of
MM Kembla’s training matrices. This consisted of 10 training manuals, 10 theory
assessments, over 150 Standard operating procedures and practical assessments, e
learning programs and facilitation of training classes for over 100 staff. (2 year
project)
BOC: Operations Consultant for gas process control and process plant operation. This
involved development of training material for BOC’s three largest sites in Port Kembla.
Newcastle and Nowra. (6 month Project)
June 2007 – Sep 2009: Hatch Consulting
Strategic Operations Consultant
In my position as an Operations Consultant at Hatch’s Wollongong office I was in charge of
the facilitation of workshops aimed at developing numerous operations manuals for various
clients, as part of the Strategic Assets Management Support (SAMS) group.
During this time I compiled new operations manuals for BlueScope Steel’s Coke Making and
Energy Services departments, as well as new operations manuals for BhpBilliton/Gemco’s
Groote Eylandt processing plant. The development of these manuals involved the following:
Analysis of operations procedures and operations manuals.
Facilitating workshops in order to align current and new information.
Editing procedures and manuals for transition into a single document.
Data collection including; engineering drawings and photography.
Project management including budgeting and report writing.
Developing written, oral and practical assessments for operators. This was achieved
through close consultation with the operations staff to align the assessment to Work
Cover requirements.
Enhancement of periodic revision sheets to ensure alignment with the manuals.
Use of Microsoft Office programs such as: Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint. Use of
Adobe programs such as: Photoshop and Image ready.

I Worked as a Business Analyst at the Tin Mill. In this role I was responsible for reducing
waste. This was achieved by:

Performing root cause analysis.
Recognising problems and recommending solutions.
Working with all levels within the organisation (Operators, Supervisors, Engineering
and Management.)
Report writing.
Implementing and monitoring changes.
Please note: Within three months this project resulted in a 33% net reduction in waste.

Blast Furnace Process Control Metallurgist
I Worked for OneSteel’s Whyalla Steelworks as a Process Control Metallurgist at the Blast
Furnace. My principle responsibility was the day-to-day operation of the Number 2 Blast
Furnace, with major responsibilities including: Fostering a safe workplace with a high level of
Safety awareness. Quality control, ensuring no disruption to charging, stove or gas systems.
Ensure high standard furnace operation. Ensure environmental standards are monitored and
improved. Make adjustments as necessary to maintain stability of the process.
June 2004 – Nov 2005 Nalco Water Treatment, Port Kembla
Service Engineer
I Worked for Nalco as a Service Engineer working across the BlueScope site including both
Number 5 & 6 Blast furnaces. During my time at Nalco I had the opportunity to design and
implement a wide range of Training Programs aimed at improving Safety of the operation
while at the same time improving the standard of service provided to the client.

As a process consultant I was responsible for General plant operational improvement and
plant optimisation.

As Refinery Supervisor I was responsible for seven process technicians and general plant
operations.
Sep 1996 – Mar 2003 WMC Olympic Dam Operations
Control Room Technician
As Control Room Technician I was responsible for:
General plant operation and optimisation.
Preventative maintenance of well over 100 pumps.
Monitoring process flow including root cause analysis to reduce process interruption.
Monitoring motors and machinery liaising on a daily basis with maintenance
personnel to ensure operational integrity.
Finding faults and rectifying those faults was integral to the operation of the Control
Room.
Another of his key roles was that of Safe Work Permit Issuer. In this role I was
responsible for tasks ranging from single pump isolation to entire plant shutdowns.

As Control Room Technician I was responsible for recording data such as
temperatures of tanks motors, heat exchangers, flow rates, levels, and pump speeds.
Periodic sampling of electrolyte, Titration’s to establish free cyanide content many
other control methods involving chemicals such as Chloride, lead, H2so4, bismuth,
selenium and cyanide.
