1 WEC Inside October 2014 News Just days to go until the WEC Executive Assembly The 2014 WEC Executive Assembly will take place in Cartagena next week (20–23 October) gathering the organisation’s leadership and the wider WEC community. More than 250 WEC members have confirmed their attendance, where choosing the host country of the 2019 Congress will be among the critical decisions to be made at the Assembly. At the time of going to press, more than 20 ministers from 20 countries are confirmed to attend the Private Trilemma Ministerial Roundtable within the World Energy Leaders’ Summit on 23 October. More than 100 chief executives, heads of organisations, and WEC member committee leaders have confirmed their attendance at the World Energy Leaders’ Summit. Colombian president Juan Manual Santos will be hosting the Summit with WEC Chair Mrs Marie-José Nadeau. At the Summit the Colombian president will be addressing the audience. The WEC’s young professionals will also meet at the Future Energy Leaders’ Summit on 22 October. At the event they will launch their report on consumer attitudes towards alternative transport fuels in the Latin American and Caribbean region. This work will also feed into the WEC Scenarios. The Energy Trilemma Summit on 22 October will bring further regional participation. This event is organized by COCME, the WEC Colombian committee, and will be open for the wider public to attend. During the week the WEC will also distribute its report, “Climate change: implications for the energy sector”, to a wider Latin American audience. The report and its infographics have been translated into Spanish. The WEC’s new e-magazine, World Energy Focus, will also be showcased during the week. Copies of its sister annual publication, World Energy Focus 2014, will be made available to delegates. There have been a number of significant developments and successes and the programme is stronger than ever before. A total of 50 member countries are now represented in the global FEL community, which reflects 53% of the MC network. In the past, when the FEL programme served only as a subsidiary of the triennial Congress, country engagement was significantly lower (at just 20%). Now, the programme is active throughout non-Congress years, and we continue to grow. Over the course of the year, WEC FELs have been successfully integrated into our work programme with nearly 50% of the community actively contributing to WEC flagships. Furthermore, an additional 22% directly contribute to specific FEL taskforces or initiatives. This engagement through WEC’s research and content is a crucial step forward: our study groups and knowledge networks provide FELs with a unique opportunity to build capacity and develop their skills and understanding in a structured environment. Just days to go until the WEC Executive Assembly The 2014 WEC Executive Assembly will take place in Cartagena next week (20–23 October) gathering the organisation’s leadership and the wider WEC community.

More than 250 WEC members have confirmed their attendance, where choosing the host country of the 2019 Congress will be among the critical decisions to be made at the Assembly.

At the time of going to press, more than 20 ministers from 20 countries are confirmed to attend the Private Trilemma Ministerial Roundtable within the World Energy Leaders’ Summit on 23 October.

Since the 2013 World Energy Congress in Daegu the WEC has continued to

engage our community of Future Energy Leaders (FELs). There have been a number of significant developments and successes and the programme is stronger than ever before.
