Description

• The animal I’m doing is interesting . It is the antelope. Antelopes are big mammals. They stand up to 4 1/2 feet high at the shoulder. They have tan fur, white on the belly and rump, 2 white stripes on the breast. Antelopes have thick light brown or dark brown fur. The special body parts of the male is it’s horns. They have horizontally oriented pupils which is special. They also ruminate. That means they chew their food over and over.

Habitat

• Antelope live in south eastern Africa as well as America. Antelope are found in a wide range of habitat, typically woodland forests. They live in tall grass, wide spaces, woods, forest, and grassland plains like those in Nebraska and Wyoming. The American antelope is not a true antelope.

Birth and Growth

• It takes about five and a half months to about nine months for a baby antelope to develop. Only one baby is born at a time. The mother licks the baby antelope or calf within minutes. The calf is able to stand on it’s own. The mothers hide the babies in tall grass.
