Dear Families, We welcome Michael Vanderheul an SSO, to our school who will be working with us for 30 hours per week for at least the remainder of this term. Michael will be doing classroom support, helping us to get the vegie garden operational amongst many other tasks.

Camp It was an action packed 3 days at Portland and I direct you to the students’ writing about their experiences and highlights. I hope there has been lots of conversations around what they did on camp at home.

Reading At a recent conference I attended in Adelaide, it was emphasised again the importance of reading to your baby, toddler and child. Reading and talking to your child activates and helps develop the brain.. The tenderness, affection and one to one attention associated with reading to your child or listening to your child read gives tremendous significance to the experience. The act of reading together is such a powerfully positive experience and one you should not deny your child or yourself.

Pupil Free Day On Friday, March 23rd, Jan and I will be attending a Writing workshop with the presenter Phil Beadle. Writing is a focus of our Site Improvement Plan and the Governing Council endorsed a pupil free day so that we can attend this inservicing.

Early closure for Easter Our school will be dismissed one hour early for Easter on Thursday 29th of March. This was discussed at our last Governing Council meeting and approved.

Happy Birthday Methuselah! The children made an Orange Syrup Cake to share with Methuselah for his birthday on Monday. It was enjoyed by all!

Before camp, Ms Major talked to us about where we were staying, some of the places we were going and showed us a map of

Portland on Google maps. She told us that we were going on a giant water slide and that got everyone excited. In the

Indonesian lesson before camp we made a Power Point on things we would see in Portland and translated it into Indonesian.

At the Wharf in Portland there were trucks that got lifted to 60 degrees in a straight line. It takes 2 to 3 days to fill up a ship full

of bark chips. Looking at the Port was really good fun and interesting how they emptied the trucks. It was so much fun to go on

On Thursday we went to the Rocket House. There was a rocket that they use to save people from ship wrecks. Methuselah

On Thursday March 1st we had lunch at Isabella’s Café. We had cheeseburgers and chips. They were delicious. They looked

nice, they smelt nicer and they tasted nicest. If I could go there again I would, they were that good. Everybody enjoyed it (I

The tram ride shows how much transportation has changed throughout the years. The tram ride has not changed, it also shows

how people have changed their designs from the past. Sophia

When we went to camp we went to the gannet colony. The gannets had a creamy yellow coloured patch on top of their head like

an airbag, which was in front of their brain to stop their skull from smashing into hundreds of pieces when they dive. They enter

the water at 100kmp to catch fish. When we went to see the gannet colony it did not smell as much as I thought it would. The

gannets have a 1.2 metre wingspan to help them glide through the air. Toby

On camp it was so much fun. For tea on the first night we had lasagne. It was sooo good. We had tea outside where it was cool.

My favourite part of the lasagne was the meat. Evan

The bouncy pillow had three colours. The colours were in a pattern. On the bouncy pillow I met the daughter of the owners of

the caravan park. The bouncy pillow was super bouncy. When I was getting off I grated my foot on the edge. Georgia

On Friday we went to Cape Bridgewater and did the 7.5 km walk. We went to the seal colony and on the way there we saw three

seals swimming around. There was a look out and we saw ten seals there. Then there were a whole heap of seals sleeping. We

were exhausted when we finished the walk. Bethan

On the way home we went to the Princess Margaret Rose caves. We saw inside the caves. It takes hundreds of years for the

stalactites and stalagmites to touch. There is a fine line where they joined. It looks like a crack. It was interesting. The ground

was slippery. There were 63 steps down there. Scout

On Thursday we went to the Discovery Centre. When we walked in we saw a squid on the floor, not a real squid, and we were

told how it eats. Then we went in and sat in a whale skeleton and took a photo. After that we went in and saw a model of a

female shark. Thirdly, we got to sit in a boat and we got called up to guess what was in the box. In one there was sand, another

had feathers and a plastic bottle and one had shells. I think the best part was to see a model of a gannet. Rubina

On Thursday I went on the water slide 5 times. I went on the water slide head first, then flipped. I slid on my tummy and I went

really fast. It was great! Elias

The water tower showed what all the army people used back in the day. When we got to the top of the water tower we saw a

koala run across the road. It was hilarious! Jedd

On Thursday we went to the Cape Nelson lighthouse. It was built in 1844. Two other lighthouses were built in 1848 and 1863.

We went into the lighthouse and there were a lot of stairs. There was a light when we got to the top, which had 5 flaps. We

went outside. It was good. Gabbi
