WelcomeWelcome

• Now that you have completed Exercise

1, you should be familiar with the basic

methods, tools and concepts that comprise the ANSYS Workbench. Let’s

begin Exercise 2.

Using ParametricsUsing Parametrics

• The methods taught in this tutorial apply equally well to both attached parametric CAD and DesignModeler files.

• For the purposes of this tutorial we will be

using the DesignModeler file produced in Exercise 1 of this tutorial.

• When using attached CAD systems dimensions and parameters would be defined in your CAD models.

Dealing with Over ConstraintsDealing with Over Constraints

• What is an Over Constraint?

– When you dimension your model you are defining rules as to how your model will change when the dimension or its associated parameter is modified.

– An “Over Constraint” where more than one rule or dimension are trying to change or control the same geometry.

• As you proceed with dimensioning, you may on equation over constrain your model.

• You will need to delete one of the two offending constraints (dimensions or rules) when this occurs.

When saving filesWhen saving files

• Note that every ANSYS Workbench Project contains only one “.dsdb” file but multiple “.agdb” files if models are copied.

– This is because

• Each DesignModeler file holds in parameters as unique

– While

• Models are combined in the Simulation to allow the cloning, copying or sharing of loads, supports, etc…

Page 55: ANSYS 10.0 Workbench Tutorial - Exercise 2, Dimensions and Parameters

Working with CAD systemsWorking with CAD systems

• Remember:

– Parameters and parameter updates work equally well when using the

Workbench with active parametric CAD systems
