A Vision for Implementing Change

• Integrate core concepts and competencies throughout the undergraduate biology curriculum

• Focus on student-centered learning Authentic research experiences Innovative pedagogical practices – active

experiential learning, multiple forms of instruction Assessment of student learning outcomes

What is PULSE? Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education

• Initiated as as result of a collaboration between NSF, NIH/NIGMS, and HHMI

• Charge: to catalyze change in life science education at the departmental level using the recommendations in Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education: A Call to Action
