How to Install the ANSI/HI Pump Standards Version 2.0

The files on this CD-ROM have been encrypted to prevent unauthorized use. Decryption of the files takes place during the authorization of the Standards on your hard drive. For more information about our use of encryption, please read “Why are the HI Standards Encrypted?”, on page 20.

To decrypt the files, you will need your 10-character alphanumeric Order ID, printed on the sticker affixed to the CD-ROM jacket.

You may use the same Order ID if you want to install the Standards for your own use on a second portable device, such as a laptop computer. It is not our intent that you use the Order ID a second time to provide a copy of the Standards to another user. Your license agreement specifically denotes you as the sole authorized user of this product.

1. Please note: Installation and authorization of the standards is specific to a single machine and login. If there are multiple users of the workstation on which the standards are installed, be sure to login to the designated userid/password when installing and accessing the standards. If you do not have administrative privileges on your computer, Step A. and Step B., described below, may be completed by your administrator but Step C., which does not require administrative privileges, must be completed while logged in as the user who will access the standards.

2. If your computer is not connected to the Internet, please connect now before beginning the installation.

The installation software requires Internet access to complete the installation and decryption of the ANSI/HI Pump Standards Version 2.0.

3. Place the CD-ROM in your CD drive. Installation will begin automatically in a few seconds.

If installation does not begin automatically, use Windows

How to Use the HI Menu

• To view a particular Standard, click its title or number.

• Three different lists of the Standards have been supplied. The first list sorts the Standards by type of pump; the second list sorts the Standards alphabetically by their titles; the last list is sorted by the ANSI/HI Standard number. All three lists are hyperlinked.

Use of the HI Standards Your copy of the HI Standards will allow you to print a hard copy of a single Standard or selected pages from a single Standard for your own use. You may not print to an Adobe PDF printer or save a copy of a Standards document with a different file name.

You may use the Note Tool to annotate your copy of the Standards. If you have made use of this feature, Adobe will prompt you to save your changes before closing.

Responding Yes to the above dialog box will save all Comments. Note that this is the only way to save your comments. The Save and Save As features on the File menu are disabled.

Navigation Guidelines

Navigating with Bookmarks To view a topic represented by a bookmark, single-click that bookmark. You will be taken to that topic. Note also that some bookmarks have nested bookmarks under them. To expand the bookmark and view the nested bookmarks, click the (+) sign. To hide the nested bookmarks, click the (–) sign. Index bookmark: If a bookmark is named Index, clicking on it will display the Index for the associated HI Standard. Once you’re viewing the Index, you can use it to easily navigate to the indexed terms within the Standard by simply clicking on a term you’d like to go to. Contents bookmark: Click on a Contents bookmark to display the Table of Contents page of the HI Standard. Like the Indexes, each item in the Table of Contents is hyperlinked. Click on an item in the Table of Contents to go to the page in the document that contains that topic.

Navigating with Search The Search feature can locate a word or phrase within the current document, multiple PDF files, or across the entire ANSI/HI Pump Standards collection.

To perform a search: 1. Click the Search button (shown above) on the toolbar to display

the Search window (shown below). The Search window will open on the right-hand side of the Adobe Reader window.

2. Input the word or phrase you’d like to search for in the upper input area labeled “What word or phrase would you like to search for?”

3. Then select ‘where’ you’d like to search by selecting one of the radio buttons:

• ‘In the current PDF document’ limits the search to the current PDF file.

• ‘All PDF Documents in’ allows you to search through all the PDF files in a directory or drive that you choose from the popup list. Note that doing so may take a while!

• ‘In the Index named HI_2005.pdx’ lets you very quickly search through all the PDFs in the ANSI/HI Pump Standards, Version 2.0. This is the fastest way to search across all these documents because a database of all the searchable text has already been created.

4. Choose options to limit or expand the search (whole words only, case-sensitive, include bookmarks, include comments).

5. Click the Search button located inside the Search window to begin the search.

6. Results will be listed by document (title of the standard) in the results window. Click the (+) sign to expand and view a particular

document’s list of ‘hits.’ Then, click a particular hit to go to that page. The hits will be highlighted in the document after you click on one of them in the results window. Click on another hit to go to that one.

7. To start a new search, click the New Search button located above the results window.

8. Important: there are two ways to close the Search window: Hide and Done.

• The Hide button is located at the top of the Search window. Clicking this “hides” the Search window, meaning that if you then click the Search button, the Search window will reopen and display the results of the last search. Therefore, you will not have to re-input the last search to get those results again.

• The Done link is located at the bottom of the Search window. Clicking this closes the Search window and removes the search results from the Search window. Therefore, if you reopen the Search window, you’ll have to re-run the search to get the results.

Note that the these are the basic search options. To turn on the advanced search options, click the Use Advanced Search Options link in the bottom of the Search window. For information on using the advanced search options, please see the Adobe Reader help file.

When the document is enlarged (e.g., you’ve zoomed in), select the

Hand tool by singleclicking the Hand tool button . You can then click and drag the page around the screen. This is very handy when you’ve zoomed in a lot and need to look at a different area of the page. Click the Zoom In tool button and click anywhere in the document to enlarge it. After you have clicked the Zoom In tool button, holding down the CTRL key changes it to the Zoom Out tool (the tool will display a minus sign instead of a plus sign). Click with the Zoom Out tool to reduce the size of the document on the screen. You can also hold down the left mouse button and drag the Zoom In tool to magnify a specific area of the document. The Dynamic Zoom tool allows you to either zoom in or zoom out. Simply select the Dynamic Zoom tool, then click and drag up (towards the top of the screen) to zoom in, or, click and drag down to zoom out. Click the Fit Page button to display the entire page within the window.

Click the Fit Width button to resize the page’s width to fit the width of the window. This is very useful for reading text. However, part of the page may be out of view. The Status bar (located at the bottom of the Adobe Reader window and shown below) has buttons that let you page through a document.

Click the Previous Page button to move to the document’s previous page. Click the Next Page button to move to the document’s next page. Click the Last Page button to jump to the document’s last page. Click the Previous View button and Next View button to retrace your path through the document. Unlike the Previous Page and Next Page buttons, Previous View and Next View follow the path you took through the document, not the order of its pages. When using PDFs, a view is defined as a certain page in a certain document at a certain magnification. Therefore, changing the zoom of a PDF page means you’ve gone to a different view. Likewise, paging through a PDF constitutes changing the view.

Why are the HI Standards Encrypted?

The Hydraulic Institute has encrypted the ANSI/HI Pump Standards Version 2.0 in PDF format to prevent their unauthorized use and/or distribution. HI develops Standards in the public interest, and relies on revenue from the sale of Standards to support the on-going Standards development process. Encryption is not done because of a lack of trust in HI Standards users. Encryption is a necessary precaution in the age of instant communications and willingness to freely share electronic files.

As The End User License Agreement explains, HI gives each purchaser an Order ID which enables him/her to install the standards for his/her sole use on both a desktop and a second optional portable device such as a laptop computer. Please keep this code in a secure place.

For more information about encryption and licensing of the ANSI/HI Pump Standards, contact the HI staff at (973) 267-9700 x18 or [email protected].
