It’s a story about an Iranian girl who travels to London because of the war. Her parents decide it is no longer safe for her to stay in Iran. She stays in London with her aunt, but the country is not what she first expected. She has some integration problems because she wears a chador and nobody else at school wears one. She feels she wants to go back, but she meets a friend at school, Stephen. He helps with her integration at school and makes the situation better. Things get gradually better and she adapts to the new country, culture and language.

The interview

João Mota and Marco wrote some questions to interview the main character, named Shirin. Then, we adapted the questions to interview a girl of our school, Kathleen. She lived in Brazil, moved to the United States of America and now she lives in Portugal.

All this work made us understand that we have to:

• Accept our differences;

• Adapt to new realities;

• Respect other people’s life style, religion, culture and beliefs.
