college union which brought live the mythological characters related to Onam

on stage. It was a creative visualization of Onam in its full glory. This year, the

union also tried to bring back to the campus the traditional competitions related

to Onam celebration in Kerala- the vadamvali and uriadi competitions.

RELEVANCE

Students unions are necessary in the colleges to interact between the

students and the managements. They should be used as a welfare provider for

the students. The students unions can work in the interest of the students if the

leaders of the student unions are honest and sincere. The students unions are

the working platform for the creation of good leaders from among the students.

Most of our political leaders and their leadership qualities are the direct

contribution of the students' organisations. Quality leaders from the educated

elite of colleges can lead our country to progress.

30 | P a g e UNION REPORT 2019-20

PROGRESS SCORE OF THE INSTITUTION

• The union inauguration was done by sitting Minister J.Mercykutty Amma, Minister for Fisheries, Harbour Engineering, Cashew Industry, Fisheries University, Government of Kerala. It should be considered as a achievement as a minister was the chief guest for union inauguration.

• The institution secured 8th position in ARTICLE-14, University Youth Festival which can be said as a position never achieved before. This achievement

31 | P a g e UNION REPORT 2019-20

is secured despite the college being a women’s only college as events were restricted to female events.

EVALUATION BY TEACHER IN CHARGE

Throughout the year, the college union tried its very best to serve the students

and management of the college. The following are the some of its contributions

that can be pointed out as its highlights.

✓ The union bought new thiruvathira ornament set for the college. The fund

was procured through sponsorship from both inside and outside the

college.

✓ The union took the initiative to organize the first ever xaverian week of

the college. It was an herculean task to carry out as there was no model

to follow. It was difficult to win the confidence of staff and students.

✓ Under the leadership of this union, the college won the best ever result in

the University Youth festival.
