Overview of Indigram Labs Foundation:
Indigram Labs Foundation was set up as a Technology business incubator in 2015 and
supported by NSTEDB, Department of Science & Technology, and Government of
India in the month of September 2016. It is established with the aim of developing
startups in the space of Agribusiness, Technology, Education, Healthcare domains that
have potential to grow full-fledged business enterprises which can touch & transform
for better tens of rural lives. Apart from being an incubator, Indigram Labs also have
an accelerator operation for identified setups to achieve the stated mission. These
enterprises are selected on the basis of the power of the idea, its business model,
potential to scale up and Social impact apart from motivation that drives the
entrepreneurs. ILF has Research and Development agreements for IARI i.e., Indian
Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Central Food Technology and Research
Institute, Mysuru. ILF is also in the process of collaboration with different Agricultural
Universities in India and also with some good old TBIs in India.ILF has been promoted
by Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP). ISAP is having PAN India
presence.
ILF is also into different training programs, seminars, and orientation programs for
students on innovation and entrepreneurship, conducting Agri EDP, skill development
programs on various Agri and Agro businesses including Farmer Producer Companies
(FPC or FPOs), organizes several motivational camps, capacity building programs,
training programs for innovative technology-based methods for productivity
enhancement of Agriculture products, Marketing linkages, packaging etc.
Currently, ILF has 25 incubatees and around 25 in the pipeline.

The venture is set up to facilitate economic development by developing and nurturing
innovation and enable them to establish small or medium – business enterprises
leading to the creation of jobs, rejuvenation of communities, commercialization of
critical new technologies and strengthening local and national economies.

Aim
ILF targets to incubate 100 starts ups in next 10 years through the process of
Consulting, Mentoring, Prototype Creation, Leveraging Technology tie-ups and Access
to Platforms that yield the stated results, Other Business Management (legal &
secretarial) Office space services and also co-funding for them. The current focus of
ILF is to promote creativity and innovation in the field of agriculture & healthcare,
enabling us to lead a better life.
Objectives:
1. To help youth build, grow and develop in the field of technology & innovation
in the field of agriculture & healthcare, enabling us to lead a better life.
2. Identify potential Entrepreneur and nurture and support them to develop
independent self-sustaining the business.
3. To foster linkages between the parent institution, Industries, and R&D
institutions in the region and other related organizations engaged in promoting
small and medium enterprises (SMEs) including NGOs & other voluntary
organizations
4. To catalyze and promote the development of S&T based enterprises and promote
employment opportunities.
5. To provide a platform for speedy commercialization of the research and
technologies developed in the institutes.

Function:
1. Identify market niche for technology products and services to be addressed;
2. Train the entrepreneurs in technology and business management;
3. Offer the professional business development services for the entrepreneurs who
have mature concepts for unique and innovative products assessed to have
strong commercial viability;
4. We provide need-based Company formation services, Legal and IPR support to
Start-ups which is an added advantage of being an incubator.
Activities:
1. Deliver orientation programmes for students, faculties, researchers and aspiring
entrepreneurs to enable venture creation.
2. Disseminate our research and innovation to the local community via tailored-
made programmes i.e. need-based skill development training programmes in
3. Agriculture & Technology, Rural Focused Health & Wellness & Clean Energy
& Automation areas.
4. Organise and run annual Business Plan Competition and Prototype contest
which offers experiences to the participants and free incubation support for six
months to the first three winners.
5. Organise and run innovator and investor meeting to bridge the gap between
R&D and product development funding.
6. Support and promote agri-preneurship in the region in partnership with
NGO/CBOs though training, demonstration and dissemination of rural
technologies to the grass root people.

Incubation Process:
ILF follows a five-step incubation process from Idea Generation to venture creation as
given the figure below:
Stage-1: Pre- Incubation:
This is the first stage where ILF foster a culture of entrepreneurship and the pre-
incubation program is a way to channel the interest in entrepreneurship into a process
for developing a new business. The following activities are carried out during this
stage:

Stage-2: Application:
The following activities are carried out during this stage:

Stage -3: Incubation:
This stage of incubation is for entrepreneurs having graduated the pre-incubation stage
or for Innovators with prototypes that are for testing and commercialization. They can
be residential or non-residential. During this stage, the prototype is completed and
tested. Innovators are assisted to identify pilot testing sites, development of revenue
model and given a range of business development support services to support business
formalization and monetization. Start-ups to graduate to next stage must have at least
one client/customer.

During this stage incubates are supported by the services offered to others on a case by

Start-up seed funds in low, medium and high categories owing to investment
criteria of the individual firm's need.
A Physical or virtual marketplace for effective and smooth buying and selling
of goods and services.
Proper guidelines and knowhow of skills and technologies to be used for
development of products and services, also thereby successful
commercialization of the products.
Sources of tapping new incubate entrepreneurs:
A multi-pronged strategy is being adopted by ILF for reaching out to potential
incubatees and innovators. Some of the major channels are as under: -
Outreach efforts through the extensive use of Social media where the activities,
success stories, funding efforts are regularly updated;
Regular info-mailers to Technical Institutes / Universities/R&D Institutes for
reaching their student innovators;
Through Business Plan/ idea competitions;
By making the USP of the Incubation center as market linkages and connecting
potential customers to incubates;
By continuous up gradation and ease of operations at ILF viz. provision of
various physical/infrastructural facilities;
Through Mentor‟s Clinic Programme;

Assistance in linkages with funding agencies for financing necessity needed for
growth of enterprise;
By providing need-based company formation services, legal and IPR support to
Start-ups, which is an added advantage of being an incubate;

Highlights for 2018-19:
Indigram Labs Foundation has taken several initiatives to tap innovation and
entrepreneurship. In our TBI, We currently 25 Start-up companies incubated with us.
Out of these 11 companies are physically present, 8 companies are virtual incubates, 6
are accelerated companies and 3 Incubatee Graduated.
ILF also promoted 10 agriventures through Agripulse‟18 North East accelerate
program. ILF has also conducted Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp in two different
locations for creating next Gen-Entrepreneurs.

The venture is set up to facilitate economic development by developing and nurturing
innovation and enable them to establish small, medium – business enterprises leading
to the creation of job, rejuvenate communities, commercialize critical new
technologies and strengthen local and national economies.
The R&D efforts of the ILF are application oriented and as such, there is a conscious
and close working relationship between the technical experts of the academic
institution & TBI. The TBI has a Governing body comprising of eminent personalities
including subject experts. The technical experts are associated right from the screening
of the technology proposed to be incubated till the graduating out of the incubatee into
a successful Start-up unit. In its efforts to provide the best of its kind inputs to its
incubatees, the TBI draws from the strength of Scientists, Researchers and other
experts from various faculties of the University such as Agriculture, Information
Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Dairy Activities, Engineering, Computer
Engineering, Law, Medicine, Management etc.
The ILF has been working with some of the best Universities and Research Institutes
across India such as IARI, Pusa; CFTRI, Mysuru; Shobhit University, Meerut; Mewar
University, Rajasthan.
Besides these, the TBI interacts with various Industry bodies to spread awareness about
its programmes and facilities like Nexus Start-up @ American Centre, Delhi; SINE-
IIT Bombay, Indian Angel Network, Agribusiness Booster (ICCO Corporation),
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Spinta Accelerator, Step-up 360- WIEF, ISBA, Lead
Angels. TBI also associated with global Incubators & platforms for Start-up growth

An eminent agricultural scientist and educationist, Dr. Patil is Chairman,
Karnataka Agriculture Mission. Before joining as Director, IARI, Dr. Patil
was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences,
Dharwad (2000- 2006). A cotton hybrid Varalaxmi (DCH-3) developed by
him was the world's first inter-specific long staple cotton hybrid. He is a
recipient of several International, National, State and University awards.
Mr. Sunil Khairnar
Founder & Director, Indigram Group
He has over 20 years of experience in Agri- commodities trading, animal feed
husbandry, input sourcing, and consulting services. He founded Indian
Agribusiness Systems Pvt. Ltd, Indigram Skill and Knowledge Initiatives
Pvt. Ltd, and Indian Society of Healthcare Professionals in the fields of
agriculture development, vocational skill development, and rural healthcare.
He is a founding member of the Rural Marketing Association of India
(RMAI).
Mr. Sudarshan Suryawanshi

Sudarshan Suryawanshi is co-founder and CEO of ISAP. He has 25 years'
of experience in agriculture and rural development and has expertise in
community mobilization for forming producer organizations, integrated
farming systems, market linkages, supply chains, water resource
management, small & micro enterprises, international consulting and
training across 27 countries across Asia and Africa.

Dr. Thillai Rajan Professor in the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras
He was Associate at the Mossavar Rahmani Centre for Business and Government,
Harvard University. His teaching and research areas include Corporate Finance,
Venture Capital Project and Infrastructure Finance, and Real Options. In 2010, he
was awarded a Fulbright Nehru Senior Research Fellowship at the Harvard

A former Director of ICAR's Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur and a
former ADG-PIM (ICAR), Dr. Chandra was a Rockefeller Fellow during
