FY 2016 SHP Sponsored Projects Summary

The SHP Office of Research reports annually on all sponsored project activities in the

school. These grants and contracts are analyzed along three key parameters: the type of

project (research, service, or instruction), the level of activity by each academic

department, and the role of faculty (SHP Primary PI role vs. SHP Secondary). In

addition, funded projects are analyzed by type of sponsor. In this report, proposal

submissions and grant awards are presented using two methods of communicating the

data. First, the summary data are presented graphically. Then, the second section lists

individual proposals submitted and projects awarded in FY16, categorized by

department.

It is important to note that because of the varying length of the grant cycle, this report

does not allow for comparison of proposals submitted with funding awarded in FY16.

Funding may be awarded as the result of a proposal submitted in the same fiscal year,

but often awards are the result of proposals submitted the previous year. Similarly,

many proposals are still pending at the close of a given fiscal year because they are still

under review. Moreover, many grants are multi-year, so funding awards are received

and reported in increments over several fiscal years. If you have questions, please

contact the SHP Associate Dean for Research.

Thank you to all faculty and staff members who have contributed to the success of SHP’s

sponsored projects activities during FY16!

Federal Funding by Sponsor

Federal Research Funding and the AAU

Of the funding that SHP receives from federal agencies, funding for research is of special interest because it is the primary criterion for MU’s continued standing as a member research university in the Association of American Universities (AAU).
