1. Overview
1.1. This past year
CQVR Evaluation Results
In the second semester of this year, the FCT evaluation results of the national research
centers and associated laboratories were released, and the CQ-VR was evaluated as
Very Good in the Exact Sciences Evaluation Panel – Chemistry. This is the fourth Very
Good evaluation granted to the CQ-VR since its foundation in 2002. For the next four
years, the CQ-VR will be funded with 465,000 Euros as base funding and 275,000 Euros
as programmatic funding. In addition to this funding, three Ph.D. scholarships were also
granted to CQ-VR. This is the highest funding granted to the CQ-VR since its foundation
(Figure 1).
Figure 1 – Financial support from FCT-Portugal (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) from 2006.
CQVR Productivity & Post-graduate Formation
In 2019 the CQ-VR research center was composed of 33 integrated researchers, 35 PhD
students, the highest value attained by the CQ-VR, and 29 collaborators (Figure 2).
Three Ph.D. scholarships were attributed to the CQ-VR in the National Call of 2019 for
Research Doctoral Scholarships.

Figure 2 – Evolution in the number of integrated researchers, PhD students and Collaborators in the last five years.
The 2019 year was very productive concerning the number and quality of the published
papers. The total number of published papers in journals indexed in the SCI index was
93, the highest number of published papers since the CQ-VR foundation, Figure 3.
Among these, 49 were published in Q1 journals, 31 in Q2 journals and only 7 papers
were published in Q3 journals. 6 papers were published in newly released journals which
are therefore awaiting an impact factor. Although this output is very good, further
commitment to submit the research work to Q1 journals, preferably in the top 5%
journals, is still needed (Table 1).
