Letter FromThe PresidentAssalamu Alaykum (Peace be with you),

It gives me great pride to present this 2019 Annual Report and give you our 2020 highlights.

Zakat helps to minimize the suffering of the needy and poorest members of society. It is not merely the giving of material things (food, clothing, money) but instead involves supporting the whole individual: body, spirit, and mind. When you look at our programs and clients, our support facilitated their journey from need to independence. As one client said, FAITH "held my hand and provided whatever I needed." At FAITH, we take a holistic approach to giving aid: addressing immediate needs while simultaneously providing programs that foster independence and self-assurance.

We strive to address the entire family: men, women, and children. As we work to stabilize and support the parents, we also offer their children programs to develop into healthy, positive people able tothrive. By doing so, we recognize children are society's future and need to be a priority today. Our goal is simply this: to restore and preserve the human dignity of a person. If a person is falling, we have to catch them. If a person has fallen, we want to provide services and support to help them get back on their feet and stay well. We're committed to building a better society one person at a time.

We have to work together to overcome the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the numerous challenges it has brought us all. Your donations have touched the lives of over 20,166 individuals.

The Spiritof ZakatIn the true spirit of Zakat, giving is more than just the material (food, clothing, and money), it involves supporting the spirit and the mind. As an organization, we work towards building self-sufficiency in the individuals and families that we support. If a person has fallen, we want to provide services and support to help them get back on their feet and stay well. Consequently, we aim to take a holistic approach to all we do.

To achieve this mission, we’ve aligned our work to the spirit of Zakat, which in its literal and simplest meaning is purity.

We seek to address and support the whole person—from their immediate physical needs to gaining skills for a prosperous future. “GIVING IS MORE THAN JUST MATERIAL, IT INVOLVES SUPPORTING THE SPIRIT AND MIND.”

A Roadmap forIndependenceThis is the heart of FAITH, every client’s case comes to the Self-Sufficiency Program. In this program, FAITH social workers create a clear road map toward independence. There is not one generic path to self-sufficiency and our expert caseworkers tailor their recommendations based on each individual client. Self-sufficiency can mean getting a car for a client so that they are able to work, helping them to tap intogovernment resources, providing job training, helping them with a one-time medical bill, or placing them in a shelter or housing.

Food for thoughtAn integral part of the assistance FAITH provides to the community is in the form of food. For the past 13 years, FAITH has run one of the two food pantries located in the town of Herndon, Virginia. The food programs are an important part of the work we do to assist low-income members of the community. These include the food pantry, Herndon Without Hunger, and the Qurbani Program.

The FAITH thrift storein Herndon, VA

FAITH’s Thrift Store has been supporting lower-income families in the Herndon community since 2001. FAITH works hand in hand with local shelters to provide vouchers for their clients to benefit from the store as well. This is a great way to recycle and help reduce the environmental footprint.

Solid FoundationsFAITH’s mission is to empower members of the community and we strongly believe that investing in education is a key aspect in creating a solid foundation for self-sufficiency and success in life. Pursuing an education has its challenges, one of the foremost being the costs associated with higher education. In the interest of alleviating such obstacles, FAITH will now offer scholarships to eligible students based on financial need. Through the donations of generous families in the community, FAITH is currently offering high school scholarships and a college scholarship.
