7 Tank irrigated area – paddy cropping
There are good number of tanks mainly in the talluks of Raichur and Deodurga. Under this situation paddy is the main crop in Kharif season. The second crop of either paddy or groundnut is taken in rabi/summer if sufficient water is available.
2.3 Soil type/s S. No Soil type Characteristics Area in ha
1 Black soils The shallow and medium black soils are grey to deep black in colour (mostly pellustert) clay to clay loam in texture. They contain lime nodules and the base saturation is high with medium to high water retaining capacity. The Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) is fairly high ranging from 50-70 me/100g. The silica sesquioxide ratio (SiO2/R202) is around 3.5
60%
2 Gravelly red soils Light textured soils having low organic carbon content and low to medium, phosphorus and potash status. They contain low water retention capacity. Soils are grouped in alfisols.
30%
3 Alluvial soils These soils are formed due to transportation and deposition through river water on the river banks. In texture, they vary from drift sand to loam and stiff clay. There is no marked differentiation in the horizons and the profiles are often characterized by the absence of stratification. The colour of these soils is generally gray. They are neutral to alkaline in reaction, moderate to high in CEC and bases. They are found on the banks of Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers in this zone.

BDN-711 withstood the
drought & yielded better even under
moisture stress
There is need to evaluate
more short duration

with farmers
participation
With two years of OFT farmers have
gained confidence on BDN-711 & they have

4.C2. Details of each On Farm Trial for assessment to be furnished in the following format separately as per the following details 1. Crop : Paddy
1 Title of Technology Assessed : Assessment of STCR based nutrient management in DSR
2 Problem Definition : High fertilizer usage by 80 % farmers ( application of fertilisers after 40 days to 70 DAS, K as top dressing at grain filling stage )
3 Details of technologies selected for assessment : TO3-STCR equation (Targeted yield 75 q/ha) 4 Source of technology : ACIRP on STCR, Bangaluru
5 Production system and thematic area : Irrigated, Nutrient Management 6 Performance of the Technology with performance
indicators : STCR approach was economical with 2.97 BC
ratio 7 Feedback, matrix scoring of various technology
parameters done through farmer’s participation / other scoring techniques
: STCR Based Application results in better yield
8 Final recommendation for micro level situation : Refine the POP dosage of fertiliser 9 Constraints identified and feedback for research : There is need to redefine the RDF prescribed in
POP 10 Process of farmers participation and their reaction : Farmers accepted this technology
2. Crop: Pigeonpea
1 Title of Technology Assessed Varietal assessment of Pigeonpea
2 Problem Definition Low & inconsistent yield with local varieties ( 30-40%)
Susceptible to terminal drought (25-30%) Increase in pest and disease incidence (25-30
%)
3 Details of technologies selected for assessment TO3: BDN-711 4 Source of technology VNMKV Parabhani 5 Production system and thematic area Rainfed, Varietal evaluation
6 Performance of the Technology with performance indicators
BDN-711 recorded 4.46 % and 17.14 % higher yield when compared to TS-3R and GRG-811 respectively
7 Feedback, matrix scoring of various technology parameters done through farmer’s participation / other scoring techniques
BDN-711 withstood the drought & yielded better even under moisture stress
8 Final recommendation for micro level situation This variety can be used under limited moisture condition in rainfed areas
9 Constraints identified and feedback for research There is need to evaluate more short duration and drought tolerant varieties with farmers participation
10 Process of farmers participation and their reaction Farmers express more pleasure as this variety performed very well even under limited moisture condition and nearly farmers of four villages were stored this variety seed next season
