Your GeneroSiTY iS The foundaTion for our SucceSS.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work with the Minerva Foundation for BC Women is witnessing, first-hand, the generosity of the many people and organizations that share

our vision to change the face of leadership in BC.

With the support of our donors, partners, staff and volunteers, the Minerva Foundation directly impacted the lives of more than 360 women and girls in 2012. From senior executives, recent immigrants and single mothers to university and college students and Grade 11 girls, the Minerva Foundation continues to elevate the visibility, influence and contribution of women leaders.

This past year we were thrilled to expand our education awards program with seven new multi-year awards, boosting the education awards portfolio by 21 per cent. Education Awards continue to be a foundational program for the Minerva Foundation, and in partnership with 24 accredited educational institutions across BC, we were able to support more than 90 students in financial need.

Leadership development and economic security continue to be key programming focuses for the Minerva Foundation, with the delivery of 14 programs across the province in 2012.

We celebrated leadership, excellence and philanthropy with a number of successful events in 2012. Our Women In™ luncheon, which recognizes women’s contributions in a particular industry, brought together more than 400 people in the technology sector and recognized the work of four honourees. All About Minerva,

a silent auction gala, allowed us to partner with local businesses to raise funds for our programs, and the Spirit of Minerva Awards recognized the incredible impact made by our alumna and volunteers.

As our public profile continues to grow and we focus our efforts on public and alumnae engagement, sound communications efforts will be key to our continued success. With this in mind, we are happy to report that 2012 saw the expansion of our team to include a dedicated marketing role. We also refreshed our brand, rolling out a vibrant new look that honours our roots, but grounds us firmly in the present. With the help of a dedicated team of volunteers, we launched a new website, with improved functionality and design, allowing us to feature more of the inspirational stories from our donors, volunteers and alumna, while keeping you up to date on our programs, news, events and campaigns.

I hope you find the highlights in this report informative and inspiring, and we look forward to the exciting opportunities that 2013 will bring.

fiona douglas-cramptonchief executive officer

We extend our sincere gratitude to the many donors and volunteers who give generously.

combining our Strength™ (coS)Through the Combining Our Strength™ initiative, the Minerva Foundation delivers its programming for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women in and near rural Aboriginal communities throughout BC in a way that is both geographically and culturally relevant.

In 2012, COS delivered programming across the Lower Mainland, and in the regions of Kamloops, Kitimat, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson and beyond.

Learning to Lead™ COSNearly 50 women attended the two-and-a-half day leadership development workshop in Vancouver, travelling from across BC to participate. Upon completion of the Vancouver portion of the program, participants returned to their home communities and continued their leadership development through our Community Circles*.

Minerva Helping Women Work™ COS Programs were delivered to 23 women in communities across BC, with six days of intensive workshops in Fort Nelson, the Lower Mainland, Cranbrook and other locations across the province.

*Community Circles - COS Community Circles take place over six sessions, during which participants develop powerful, trusting alliances with other women from their communities, build leadership skills and participate in a community project. Community Circles are designed with flexibility to ensure that the diverse needs of participants and communities are met. The Minerva Foundation provides ongoing support to COS Community Circles throughout the year.

“Minerva has given me the gift of values. I learned to live and work from my values and because of that, I know my purpose.”

- Renee Lomen, Minerva Helping Women Work COS

VolunteerEach year, the Minerva Foundation for BC Women directly impacts the lives of approximately 400 women and girls across British Columbia. We could not achieve this without the help of our diverse community of volunteers—the diverse community of women and men who ensure our programs are delivered to the highest standards. Without the invaluable support of people like you, our legacy would not be achievable.

DonateA heartfelt thank you to our dedicated supporters who contributed cash, securities and gifts-in-kind in 2012. We also remember and thank those who left a legacy gift through a bequest in their will.
