President’s Report

2010 saw a new President who set some goals and had some successes and some failures. I set out with a number of goals.

1. Ensuring that every player, official & supporter is aware that they have responsibilities when they attend a Junior Rugby League game.

2. Ensuring that our Competition Rules reflect the way we operate.

3. Ensuring that the game comes first and Administration Governance & IT

developments work together to improve the games management & promotion.

4. Developing procedures to be transparent at all times.

5. Exploring opportunities for sponsorship above our support from Manly Warringah Leagues Club.

Thankfully with a lot of goodwill on all sides we made progress on all of these issues except sponsorship. In January 2010 we had a long and constructive meeting with Kim Hunter, John Fox, Warrick Phillips & Coralie Newman. This set the agenda for our competitions for the season. With strong input from John Fox, Bob Butcher and further input from Kim Hunter, North Sydney & the A Grade Committee we had the season rules approved on 29th March and they were not changed all season. The A Grade Committee came up with a season launch. It finished up as a Club Launch with the support of all Clubs. The launch went ahead at the Leagues Club and it was impressive that all clubs spoke on their aspirations for 2010. The disappointment of this function was we could not take the next step to involve sponsors to help promote the Junior League. The A1 Grade Clubs made a significant contribution to the game this season by contributing to a regular ad in the Manly Daily. With the reintroduction of a Best and Fairest award called the Cliff Lyons Medal, results were also published in the Manly Daily. Most clubs reported an improvement in their crowds and canteen takings due to the return of a regular ad in the Manly Daily. This is an area where we should set out to attract sponsorship in 2011. We also saw two end of season presentations at the Leagues Club. One for the Cliff Lyons Medal & the A1 team 2010 and the other for our Premiership teams. Both presentations and the season launch were compered by Steve Woodley from Northern Beaches Radio and Steve's contribution certainly improved the professionalism of the events. The ability of the Junior League to create fair and even competitions has always been a problem and this year was no exception, however we were very lucky to have Kim Hunter & John Fox working closely together. We saw fewer redraws and fewer complaints about unbalanced competitions. The administration of the competitions became more demanding this year with the reintroduction of the Signature Committee. We have to thank the efforts of Bob Butcher who seems to know the name of every player who players Rugby League. Bob recognised the issues and got them exposed and fixed. He worked well with Coralie Newman & Jacky McCauley to see teams sheets were recorded and audited. I could not help myself after seeing Bob's efforts this season and

Page 10: ANNUAL REPORT 2010 - Manly Junior District Rugby LeagueManly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated Season 2010 Annual Report Page 10 I created a perpetual award

Season 2010 Annual Report  Page 10

I created a perpetual award for those who work beyond the call of duty for the Junior League. Congratulations Bob for picking up the inaugural Junior League Presidents Cup. Referees and Judiciary are a very important part of our game and I would particularly like to thank Chris Bignold, Lawrie Lauira, Frank Cridland, and Brian Friend (Judiciary) for their contribution in 2010. The most exciting part of our year is the Grand finals at Brookvale Oval. This year as well as every other year we are often presented with another way of doing things. We have the problem that not all our teams can play on Brookvale Oval. I must say without the efforts of Peter O'Dwyer, Mick Covey & the District Club there may have been fewer games at Brookvale Oval. While it is very important that teams strive to earn a place at Brookvale Oval in August it is just as important and sometimes more important that we all look after teams that struggle to compete each week. Junior League is not about me or any other supporter of the game. It is about seeing players wanting to play and enjoying their game every weekend. Whether you are a Club or Team Official, Coach or Manager the passion and excitement of Rugby League demands that you contribute more than other sports. To all those who have made an effort to help the Junior League in 2010, thank you for your contribution. The success of Manly Sea Eagles always adds numbers to our Clubs. Our ability to keep new players is often in question. To all who have any opportunity to encourage players to play again in 2011 take up the challenge as keeping current players will increase player numbers and gives us stronger first divisions and more, even lower grade competitions. Thank you again and good luck to all in 2011. Eric Galloway President Executive Report (Secretary) The year 2010 can best be described as a leap forward. It was also a year that saw a need for all clubs to introduce new measures. I refer to the decision to embrace online registrations. Tracking players registered to play was not always easy. However we had in place a manual operation just in case. We re-introduced the Signatures Committee under the chairmanship of Bob Butcher. It met every Monday and examined all sign on sheets for all games. The result was a credit to their commitment as week after week we tracked down a range of errors that all needed correction. These errors were carefully reviewed with comparison with the online registrations and all were double checked on the computer by Coralie Newman. Did we have problems? Yes, but by the end of the season the system of correction was a success. The year in terms of numbers was similar to 2009, but when you put in the extra 22 teams from North Sydney, the volume of games, recording and refereeing had a significant impact on organisation. For the record we in MWDJRFL had 166 teams - a great achievement by clubs. Our official registrations are 2491 not counting the under 5 years in the skills development teams. Yes we had over 2500 members. All clubs can take a bow. It was great to see the support given by all officials at all grounds and club

ground managers can feel very pleased. The association’s competition team ensured that games were played each week in all age brackets. Very well done. Just for the record we had 23 under 6 years mini teams. Looks like a bright future. The 2010 Open Grade Competition was acknowledged by all JRLs in the Metropolitan area as one of the best. The Premiers for 2010 were Narraweena. The Grand Final was played before 6,000 people at Brookvale Oval thanks to the co-operation of the Sea Eagles Management and Warringah Council. Special thanks to the outdoor staff of all councils as the commitment to maintaining the playing areas was greatly appreciated. Highlights of 2010 were as follows:-

• A grant of $50,000 from our major sponsor Manly Warringah Leagues Club. To Bob Reilly and his team we record special thanks.

• As mentioned over 2500 registered players.

• The Association welcomed 22 teams from North Sydney that played in a joint

competition arrangement with Manly JRL. Whilst it was a success indications are that it needs review.

• Thanks to District Club President Bob Reilly and the Sea Eagles Management the

majority of Grand Finals were played at Brookvale Oval over a full weekend.

• All referees are congratulated for their commitment and we record our thanks. However an issue involving adverse comments directed at a referee is the subject of a review of operations to the point that a NSW Policy and better management of crowds on the sidelines is being addressed. This will be in place for 2011.

• In the development area we excelled under the guidance of Dave Warwick and his

team. Full details are in the Development Officer’s report.

• John Fox President CBOBFC was awarded Volunteer of the Year.

• Bob Butcher, a Life Member of the JRL received the prestigious Steve Menzies medal for his contribution to football.

• Valley United were outstanding as they paid tribute to Women in Sport at a

special Ladies Day held at Harbord Park. Congratulations for a wonderful day.

• The premier award of the season - the Pop Hall Trophy was closely contested and was won by Mona Vale. See separate report. Well done Mona Vale.

We look forward to another outstanding season in 2011. Peter O’Dwyer Executive Officer

Competition Director’s Report The 2010 season saw 166 local Manly Warringah teams and 32 North Sydney teams playing in the various competitions. Three North Sydney teams played in the local Manly Warringah Under 12 competition and 29 North Sydney teams played in the Joint Manly Warringah North Sydney Joint Competitions. It was the fourth year of the Manly Warringah North Sydney JRL Joint Competitions from Under 13 to A Grade. I would like to thank fellow members of the Manly Warringah North Sydney Joint Committee, Kevin Nichols and Mark Dowel from North Sydney and John Fox from Manly Warringah, for their time, commitment, contribution and counsel throughout 2010. Our Mini League and Mod League competitions continue to be strong in numbers and there is considerable talent amongst these teams. It seems that recruitment in the Under 6 year age group continues to be doing well with 23 Under 6 teams playing in 2010. Our ‘A Grade’ competitions continue to be strong and we were once again able to conduct three ‘A Grade’ Competitions in 2010: - A1 & AR for the two team A Grade clubs and A2 for the one team A Grade clubs. The three A Grade competitions were made up of 17 Manly teams and 7 North Sydney teams. Narraweena were Premiers in the A1 Competition defeating minor premiers Valley in an excellent Grand Final at Brookvale Oval. An amazing result considering Narraweena played in the A2 Competition last season. Valley was worthy AR Premiers and Cromer were successful in the A2 Grand Final. In relation to referees I would like to thank Shane Charman and Laurie Lawira for their co-operation and support during the season and to all our referees for their contribution throughout the season. I would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of John Fox. Thank you ‘Foxy’ for your contribution and your assistance to me and to the time you put into your role, I enjoyed working with you throughout the year. Bob Butcher performed fine service for our JRL throughout the season taking control of the audit of our players and competitions, a very time consuming role, thank you Bob for a job very well performed. Thank you also to Coralie Newman for your continued contribution, commitment and the co-operation you gave me during the season. I would also like to acknowledge the considerable contribution made to our JRL by both Peter O’Dwyer and Eric Galloway. Thank you to both for your co-operation, advice and assistance throughout 2010. Also I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Mick Covey for his duties as our Treasurer and for his assistance in relation to A Grade matters particularly for his work controlling the A Grade points system. To all club delegates, ground managers, club officials, coaches, managers, first aiders, trainers and all the other volunteers, many thanks for your contribution in 2010. Thank you to all the players that played this season, I hope you enjoyed playing the great game of rugby league and that not only will you come back and play again in 2011 but that you will also bring along some friends to join your club and play too. Coaching & Development Report The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have completed another successful year for player development. Firstly our Harold Matthews and SG Ball sides participated in the NSWRL competitions with high distinctions. The Harold Matthews team was defeated in the last minute of play in their semi final against the Newcastle Knights. Although losing this match, we were very proud of the boys achievements and one of the most pleasing results was the high number of local boys in this team. A total of 15 of the 21 players in this team represented local junior sides. Congratulations to the following players for representative honours; Jake Trbojevic, Fabian Natoli (Mona Vale Club) and Clinton Gutherson (Cromer) were selected into the NSW under 16 team that was victorious over the Queensland side. Congratulations also to Robert Wolfgramm (Manly Cove) for his selection into the NSW CHS Schoolboys squad and ultimately the Australian under 15 merit side. The Sea Eagles SG Ball team was hit with several injuries during their season however individual performances did not go unnoticed. Several boys graduated to the Toyota Cup team (u/20s) and continued their personal development which will carry self confidence into the 2011 season. The Sea Eagles under 15 ‘Skills Development Program’ continued in February with 45 local boys participating. This first stage carried for 8 weeks which involved weekly skill sessions and a game against the Canterbury Bulldogs. Second stage commenced from June with the boys playing the visiting Toowoomba boys and further continuation of skill development. Again the second year for the under 14s was well received from the local boys. This program is open to any registered Manly junior. In 2010 we were delighted to host 65 boys over 4 weeks as an introduction to basic fundamentals and is leveraged into the under 15s which reassemble in February. I wish to make special mention of the local coaches and administrators that are heavily involved with all programs and teams. Firstly to Paul Vescio for his management duties for the development squads and as a conduit to relevant information at meetings. Thank you also to Glenn Moore, Adam Kent, Harry Georgas and Gary Pickworth for their dedication to the 14s and 15s development squads. A very big thank you to my great staff for the Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams. This is a very time consuming role but these guys love being with the young players and all have made a contribution to the player’s development. Simon Healey, Chris White, Glenn Moore, Dean Lappas, Tom Watkins, Bob Butcher, Dane McKay and Tim Gee. All of these people are involved with local clubs on the Northern Beaches. May I finish in recognising the high number of local junior players graduating through the Sea Eagles ranks. In the past two seasons upwards of 12 players per year have been part of our successful Under 20 Toyota Cup teams and it was also gratifying to have 4 players from this year’s team play for the Junior Kangaroos and Kiwis recently in New Zealand. Two of those players were James Cunningham (Avalon junior) and Michael Oldfield (Cromer junior).

In the 2011 season the Manly Sea Eagles senior training squad will comprise of 9 local juniors. This is positive news and I can assure everyone that through hard work these numbers will grow over the next two years. Dave Warwick Coaching & Development Manager

Judiciary Report Thanks must go to the Clubs who allowed us to use their premises for our hearings; Christian Bros, Narrabeen and Avalon and also to the Club Officials for closing up after us. To the Panel Members - Al Skinner, Bob Butcher, Chris White, John McGarry, John Fox, Matt Brown, Jill Brutnell – thanks for your help and time. To Brian Friend, thank you for your paperwork. It made me look good. We had over 30 cases which was an increase on 2009. With more Code of Conduct hearings. It is a worry that there were a number of cases of players questioning referees and use of objectionable language on the field. Clubs need to make players aware that this is unacceptable behaviour. On a more pleasant note it should be noted that in 2010 we had no re offenders so we may be getting some things right. Frank Cridland Chairman

IT Report Firstly I would like to thank the Board for giving me the opportunity of once again looking after the computer side of things with regards to duplicates, transfers, scores, and many other tasks associated with running a competition. At the end of the season a full overview of games played by all clubs and all age groups was available on the website. Thank you to the Club Secretaries and Registrars who have been very helpful in fulfilling their duties. We should not take for granted the time and commitment by local registrars getting their members registered on line and also putting players into teams, also on line. We are now in the "Computer Age" and should continue to go forward. Clubs voted to support online registrations as their preference and I am sure they now appreciate the results that they see. It would be of significant value if all Club Secretaries and their Registrars are able to attend the planned meeting when Cameron O'Riordan will be coming along to explain the new "episode" of the computing system. That meeting is scheduled for 29th November and details will be sent by the CEO. Please remember if you are unsure on how to do things, please contact me for advice. If I am unable to give you the correct answer, I will get it for you.

Hope you are all enjoying the break until the 2011 season kicks in. Wishing you a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. Coralie Newman Insurance Report There were twenty six insurance claims during the 2010 season. To my knowledge, all have been satisfactorily resolved. The one major problem was the inattention of claimants when filling out claims, this results in unnecessary delays in processing. Peter Harris Insurance Co-ordinator

Avalon Bulldogs JRLFC A fantastic year for Avalon Bulldogs both on and off the field!

Both junior and senior teams did themselves proud with terrific sportsmanship, hard play and dedication to their team-mates. Both the senior and junior club continues to grow with most grades fielding a team and some grades with two.

Congratulations to the mighty Under 10’s for winning the competition this year with some enthralling play. Great football was displayed by the Under 14’s and Under 9’s to reach grand finals, only to miss out on the premiership trophy.

The Avalon A Grade had a fresh new look and new coach this season and for a team brought together at the last moment, proved to be a real force finishing 4th. It will only get better next year with most of the squad committing themselves to season 2011 with the aim of bringing the Manly junior league premiership “around the bends”. The young Under 19’s team had a building season and will look to be a real force in the 2011 competition.

Thank you to all the coaches and managers for running the teams and to all the parents and partners for getting the players organised and at the games.

Off the field a lot of work has gone into keeping the club running strongly and successfully. This year we have seen some very successful and profitable functions - 500 club dinner, golf day fundraiser, kids disco’s, sportsman’s lunch, wine tasting day, sponsor days, and after match functions - just to name a few. Thank you to all the committee for your time and help in running the club. A big thank you to the same group who have continually helped to set up every weekend and have attended and assisted with all the functions all year. These guys are so committed and driven to making Avalon Bulldogs the premier sporting club in the area.

We look forward to a huge 2011 when the Avalon Bulldogs celebrate their 50th Anniversary! Events are already being planned to mark this significant occasion and we look forward to strong on field performances to help mark our 50th year as a huge success.

Go the mighty Doggies!

Peter Robinson Secretary Avalon JRLFC Beacon Hill Bears JRLFC 2010 was a great season at Beacon Hill. Our Under 6’s, 7’s and 8’s all had a fantastic time in Mini Football this season. Our Under 10’s made the Division 1 Grand Final, but came a close second in the final result to Narrabeen. Thanks to all of our coaching and management staff of these teams for the year.

Congratulations must go to our Under 15’s who were not only Division 1 Minor Premiers, but Division 1 Premiers as well. Great work from all of the boys and their coach, Jason Lussick, whose hard work and respect from the entire team has seen all of the boys grow into strong and capable players. Eight of our team have been selected in the Manly Harold Matthews side for 2011. An outstanding achievement! 100 games awards were given this year to Joey Lussick, Grant McDonald, Matt Arnold, James Taefotu, Tyson Davis and Hayden Cochrane. Our A2’s backed up again this season. Injuries and wet weather made it a difficult season for the boys, but they never failed to show up every week and go out there and have a run. Congratulations to all of our players for showing a great respect for our Club and the uniform you wear every week. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive Committee of the Manly Warringah District JRLFC for all of their efforts in 2010. Danielle Kifooti President Beacon Hill Bears JRLFC Belrose Eagles JRLFC It is with much pride and pleasure that I can thank and congratulate all players, officials and club members after another great season in 2010. The hard work done by our promotions committee has seen the mighty Eagles maintain good numbers through all the grades with only the Under 16 grade uncontested by us this year. With premierships in the Under 7s, Under 12s and Under 13s and the Under 19s making the Grand Final that red and gold jumper was certainly making its presence felt up and down the peninsula. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all club sponsors, without whose generosity we could not meet the burgeoning costs of junior sport. I must make mention of the sterling efforts of Director, Brad Martin, who headed our sponsorship initiatives and convinced many new local businesses to invest in our club. Our club is indeed blessed with a number of devoted volunteers who beaver away throughout the season seeking nothing more than to bask in the warm glow of the Belrose Eagles flourishing. Entire weekends spent at Lionel Watts are not uncommon. To all the red and gold volunteers, I luv yez all. I felt that our board this year was a particularly effective one and I would like to thank my fellow directors for their devotion. I would also like to acknowledge the impressive debuts of Scott Collins and Martin Cook who brought energy and freshness to our meetings. To our junior league association and to our referees, thank you for your efforts in making a successful 2010 season. Craig Badger President Belrose Eagles

Christian Brothers OBFC Season 2010 was a very successful one for the Christian Brothers Club. We enjoyed good growth during the off season and were able to field 12 teams. All of the sides proved to be competitive with 9 sides making Semi Finals and 5 going through to Grand Finals with the Under 8's & Under 9's achieving premierships. These results are a reflection of the efforts of our coaching staff who work tirelessly to lift the skills of our boys. Off the field there were some disappointments with 2 break-ins at the clubhouse during the off season which resulted in a security upgrade of the premises. This upgrade set the club back $10,500.00, but I feel confident with the results achieved. At the present time the club is renegotiating a new lease of our premises with the council and you should be aware that there is pressure being applied that we allow other sporting bodies to use our facilities. This situation has not been resolved and you will be informed of future developments. There are many people to thank after a season. I must start with Jacky & Karen who contribute so much to the smooth running of the club. To the other dedicated workers who include the canteen staff, coaches, managers, ground staff and supporters, your efforts are very much appreciated. A special thanks to the fundraising committee who did a wonderful job organising the trivia night. The evening was a great success both socially and financially. To our generous sponsors your support is invaluable and goes a long way towards the successful operation of the club. In conclusion, I would like to thank my wife Flor for her "leave passes" throughout the season, for her efforts in the kitchen at various club functions and post match dinners for the players on Sundays. Have a happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you again next year. John Fox President Christian Brothers OBFC Cromer Kingfishers JRLFC I am proud to have been part of such a successful year at the Cromer Kingfishers. I hope to see each of you return next year as we again strive to further the advancement of the club. This year we entered a total of 18 teams into the Manly Warringah Junior Rugby League competition, ensuring that the Kingfishers were one of the strongest clubs (based on numbers) in the competition. Next year it would be great to see these numbers rise again. I believe in the saying “Once a Kingfisher, always a Kingfisher” and hope that each and every one of our players develop a strong sense of pride and loyalty to the club and club name. I myself played for the Kingfishers from 1986-2002, returning in 2007 with my son and will continue to support the Kingfishers even after his football years have come to an end. Through my involvement with the Kingfishers I have experienced some of the most rewarding times and cherish the friendships fostered on and off the field. It is my hope that each player at the Kingfishers go on to look back on their time spent with the club with the same fond memories that I have and that these players will in turn return to the club with their own families in the future.

2010 has been an exceptionally busy time for me here at the Kingfishers as I shared my hat around between the roles of President, Coach, Player and First Aider; it has been very difficult at times but it has also been very rewarding. I would like to thank our team of volunteers (parents and players) who helped out this season with coaching & managing teams, filling the essential positions of league safety officer and first aider, field set-up & pack-away, canteen & BBQ, fundraising, grounds maintenance, organising and attending club functions etc. The assistance and support of these individuals ensures that we are able to continue running a successful club. I hope that going into 2011 we have an increasing number of volunteers who will experience the rewards of supporting not only their children but the club as a whole. I understand that people live very busy lives, but I must stress that if every parent extends even the smallest degree of assistance to the daily running of the club this will benefit the Kingfishers community greatly! All assistance is appreciated and your increasing support is greatly needed! To the committee members, Yvette Healey, Sharon Forsyth, Adam Kent, Tom Akhurst, Debbie Gyde, Clair Fender, Sue Anstee, Belinda Kent & Daniel Woodhouse. To work alongside you all with the clubs best interests at heart has been a pleasure. We have all worked tirelessly since October 2009 to rebuild the clubs financial and operational status while achieving the goals which we set in place for this season. With a lot of hard work from the committee and a small group of individuals we have been able to continue to turn the club around and guarantee the success of the Kingfishers for another season. There are still many hours of hard work and a large commitment required to secure the positive growth of the club and therefore ensure the long term future of the Kingfishers. We trust that the newly elected committee will continue to build on the surplus funds in the bank account, with the intention of utilising these funds to re-develop/extend the club house into a function room/bar that will in turn generate increased revenue for the club long into the future. We also trust that they will aim to achieve the following considered goals in 2011: continue to build on the clubs positive assets by purchasing a score board and a signage/notice board, continue to build the positive brand recognition of the “Cromer Kingfishers” in the community, introduce a player mentoring program between senior and junior players and work closely with the coaches, managers and parents to formalise a club grading policy. Lastly, I would again like to express our great appreciation for all of the clubs sponsors. I encourage all Kingfishers members to utilise the services of our valued sponsors where ever possible in your personal and business lives. By doing so you are expressing your sincere appreciation of the kind contribution made by these businesses to the club and to your child’s sporting future. I hope to see all families return in 2011. Forestville Ferrets JRLFC We’re A Good Mob! Well, another year, done and all but dusted. Only one premiership, courtesy of our ‘invincible’ ladies team, but plenty of other things to be excited about over the past 8 months. As the season closes we reflect again on the ups and downs of junior rugby league and the Ferrets in particular. The stats tell us that junior league numbers are growing and that is certainly encouraging. Our own club fielded 13 teams this year, compared to 12 last year, so on the surface a good start. However we all know that a few of our teams had just the numbers required and would potentially have some difficulties as the year proceeded. In some cases this was the case. What is particularly disappointing is young players leaving our club to join others where the promise of some ‘grand prize’ is offered but rarely delivered. With this in mind I point out that yet again we have managed to attract players and grow team numbers in the latter part of the year. This is clearly a result of the effort of coaches, managers and trainers who take pride in how their team performs and behaves, and I would like to acknowledge those efforts up front. It is also the result of our kids having a good time in an environment where they feel welcome and valued, whether or not they are winning, and being proud enough to spread the word to their mates. This is the key to our future success and stopping the leakage to other clubs at the beginning of every new season. Let’s make sure we display that pride in our club during the upcoming months and hopefully attract a few new players next year. Okay, off the soapbox and as always I have many people to thank: Players: That’s why we are here. I hope you all enjoyed your year. Coaches, Managers & Trainers: As I mentioned above you set the scene for performance on and off the field. Well done this year. Sponsors: Lifeblood of the club operations and we are all extremely grateful. Let’s all make sure we support our sponsors whenever we can. Parents: Your involvement and hopefully enjoyment of our club is increasing. Please, join in! Supporters: Loud, but fair (mostly) Directors: I can’t believe we made it through. Your commitment and efforts generally go unheralded, and will again! However, I personally thank you – fantastic effort. Finally two people who deserve special mention: Clinton Dodds: Coach, organiser of Touch, Skills Day and Skills Night, positive attitude, excellent role model for our kids and all round ‘good bloke’. Ready to step into his parent’s shoes! Brett Eisenhauer: VP, canteen organiser, ground manager, event organiser, sometimes not pc, but always there for the Ferrets. I know more than most how much we would have struggled without that commitment. Cheers Brett.

Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you all (plus some more) back at Ferretville for a great year in 2011. Scott Johnson Forestville Ferrets JRLFC Harbord United Devils JRLFC Year 2010 was a very successful year for the Harbord United Devils, on and off the field. Success on the field saw out of the 16 competitive sides that 7 made Grand Finals. Winning 5 was a great result for the club. 3 of those were in first division which saw Harbord United share the club championship and we were awarded the Col Mills trophy for the third year running. Congratulations to all the sides who participated for this year and to all the coaches and managers for a job well done. I know all the parents and the committee appreciate it. This year we hosted Tugun in the July school holidays. Our 11s and 12s played Tugun in the first and second division, entertaining the crowd for four games of great footy played in the true spirit of the game. Our 10s and 11s are already hard at work fundraising for their return trip next year. I would like to thank all the volunteers that make our great club run. From Carol who works tirelessly in the canteen and her helpers Jacqui, and Lucy to our Vice President John Winsor. All the BBQ staff especially, Ralph and Howie, and for the people who help set up and pack up the park on a Saturday. My thanks also to Julie McDonald who edited the Devils Advocate this year and has done a great job. Special thanks must go to the Clubs Secretary, Paul Chipchase, and also Bob Butcher for all their support to me throughout the year. I would also like to thank all our sponsors who without them the club would not be the success it is. Thank you to Harbord Bowling Club, Freshie Chickens, Your Style Home Additions, Harbord Bendigo Bank, Peto, Barry Taylor and Partners, Sydney Wide Radiators, Michel’s Patisserie, Chester’s Gourmet Meats, Print and Signs, Wahoo Pools, Cheries Pies, Drip Dry Bathrooms, Dairy Farmers, Freshwater News Agency, Green Grass Gardens and Peninsula Auto Clinic. I would also like to bid farewell to our U17’s who progress to the 19’s for Valley United, congratulations on your last two years of premierships. Finally, a big thank you to the all the kids who are the future of this club. Scott Martin President Harbord United Devils JRLFC Manly Cove Rebels JRLFC This year has been a difficult year off the field financially but a successful one on the football field. Congratulations go to our U19’s team and their coach Adam Hennessey for winning their 2nd Premiership. Our under 6 team had a great time and many thanks go out to Sol Chambers and Jacob De Vorms for getting them together each week. Congratulations go to our under 12’s who displayed great character, sticking together after not having many games during the season due to all the forfeits against them, to win the Premiership. Many thanks to Vice President and U12’s coach Dennis Keene for

his persistence and hard work this year. Our U12’s and our A2 Grades both made the finals this year in another competitive season. Congratulations and thanks must go to the parents, coaches and club members who worked so hard to make this season run so well. Also big thanks to our Treasurer, Renee O’Donnell, for keeping our heads above water in this difficult season, our Registrar, Doug Armstrong, our Secretary, Sue Tonga and Sharon Kennedy for doing all the hard stuff they do behind the scenes. Special mention goes to Errol Douglas, founding Life Member, for keeping us afloat this season. I would like to wish everyone in the junior league community good luck and happiness and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2011. Marty Whittaker President Manly Cove JRLFC Mona Vale Raiders JRLFC

2010 has seen the mighty Mona vale Raiders go from strength to strength in our 50th year of celebrating the Raiders football history. The Club now boasts 18 teams and close to 260 kids playing Rugby League for the Raiders – making our club one of the strongest in the district. This result has been brought about by a team of extremely hard working and devoted individuals who sit on our Committee and Sub Committees. I cannot thank these people enough for the countless hours they have put in throughout the year to help make the club the success it is today. It would also be remiss of me not to mention previous committees for without their efforts over the clubs 50 year history we wouldn’t be where we are today. We’ve seen some great footy played this year and it is all thanks to our great coaches, trainers, and managers who have stepped up to the plate, making sure the kids are prepared for game day. Off the field we have had another successful year with a wonderful social night at Bayview Golf Club, where 180 plus people turned up to celebrate the Raider’s 50th Birthday. It was great to see so many people from the club, past and present, enjoying a fantastic night. The girls on the Social Committee went all out making it a night to remember. Our Golf Day…our major fundraiser for the year was bigger and better than ever thanks to all attending and participating. Those who went would agree that it is one of the best days you will ever go to and for those who missed out…there is always next year. Kev and Tania Marr were absolutely fantastic with the way they brought the day together, making it one of the most successful golf days yet. We saw the inception of the inaugural President’s Cup Touch Football comp run one Friday night at Newport Oval where all the Mums and Dads were welcomed to come and play in a mixed competition. I was overwhelmed by how many people turned up to play and surprised at how hard and fast the pace of the game was. There were lots of laughs and some very sore muscles over the days that followed. Sadly, I was not part of the winning team but that aside there was some great skills shown and it was a lot of fun.

The Raider’s website this year has been just as popular as ever being regularly updated with weekly blurbs, results and information for game day. Adrian Wyatt has worked well with John Marshall this year doing a fantastic job with updating some of the displays and layout on the website. Thank you to all who have chipped in and contributed to the site this year as we should all be very proud of the fact that it is the envy of all Junior Rugby League websites. When it came to finals footy we were lucky enough to have thirteen out of eighteen teams playing in the semi finals. This was an outstanding achievement for all the teams involved and for the Club. All the teams had a red hot go once in the semis and out of the thirteen teams, six made it through to Grand Finals. Out of those six I am proud to say that we came away with two junior premiership titles and one senior title, three in all. End of year celebrations in some quarters are still continuing as we speak. Thank you to all our marvelous sponsors – Delmege Residential, Viking Diesel, Hogs Breath Café, All Works Building, Bakker Towing, Ron Flew Excavation, Mona Vale Quality Butchers, Pittwater RSL, Custom Garage Doors, Oxford Falls Welding and Harro’s Roofing. We hope you have enjoyed another successful year at the Raiders and look forward to your continued support in 2011. As the season has now drawn to a close I hope you all enjoy time away from footy and have a relaxing summer. I’ve had another great year at the club and enjoyed every last minute of it. I wish you all the very best of luck for the rest of 2010 and I can’t wait to see what 2011 has in store with another season of fun filled footy at the Mighty Raiders. So until then, Gooooooooooooooooooooo Raiders! Jeff Stevenson President Mona Vale Raiders JRLFC Narrabeen Sharks JRLFC The 2010 season has been a great season for the Sharks with 8 teams competing for Premiership honors on Grand Final Day and 4 of those teams bringing home the trophies. Congratulations to all these teams and every team that competed for the Sharks. Special mention to the Premiership winners the U7, U9, U10 and U11 teams coached by Tim Couper, Peter Smyth, Jamie van Buuren and Paul Evans and all their managers and trainers. On behalf of the club, thanks to all our supporters and sponsors, who were not only on hand to cheer our sides along but supported the club financially via team sponsorship, raffles and the canteen. A great day was had by all at the last A grade game for the year when we farewelled our stalwart Tony "Balko" Balkin who has about 32 years in the black and white. Tony is already a Life Member and I'm sure his input with the club is not over. Finally thanks to the management team especially the effort by our secretary, Tracey in securing various grants that will help cement the future of the best junior rugby league club in Australia. Narraweena Hawks JRLFC The 2010 season can be seen as a moderate success. The Hawks fielded fifteen teams, which was an increase of 25%. In addition, most teams improved on their 2009 results. The increase in players, together with the improved results, can only be seen in a positive light. Especially pleasing was the increase in under six players, this points to a bright future for our club. Nearly all our teams qualified to contest the Semi Final series, those that missed out doing so only narrowly. None of our teams was eliminated easily. Four teams progressed to Grand Finals, being our under 14's, under 15's, A Reserve and A Grade, with the fourteens and A grade sides winning premierships. Congratulations to all teams, winners and losers, for great performances all season. All teams did their best and represented the Club in exemplary fashion. Special mention to our under seven coach and A grade player Ben Munro, who played his 300th game in the blue and white. None of this can be possible without the effort and guidance of all the hard working delegates who attend junior league meetings throughout the season. Special appreciation must go to John Fox and Kim Hunter, who both volunteered to accept the thankless task of organising a competition that is both equitable and acceptable to all, and accomplished the task admirably. Thanks also to the executive committee as well as the referees. Peter Harris Secretary Narraweena Hawks JRLFC North Curl Curl Knights JRLFC 2010, another year of enjoyment that came and ended so quickly Much gratitude first of all goes out to all the amazing parents who returned to our club and those new ones who joined us this year. Without your kids North Curl Curl would not exist. So thank you for allowing your children to represent us, it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know many of you. Those parents who through the season stepped up to the mark to help out in the canteen were also very appreciated along with Carolyn Elliott and Joe Askew who kept the canteen running and the BBQ firing. Mark Messenger (also website editor) and Les Elliott and Mark Geercke, who kept everything else in running order. Jill Brutnell, Al Skinner and Kim Hunter, your contributions were much appreciated too. And last but not least all the Managers, Coaches and Trainers, great jobs guys. North Curl Curl would not function without you all. The Knights this year successfully fielded teams in the Under 6s, Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 10s, 2 teams in Under 11s, an Under 13s and an A Grade side. All teams made it through to the Finals this season with our 8s and 10s bowing out in the Grand Finals - fabulous achievements with great sportsmanship is what all teams displayed. To all our sponsors my deepest thanks for your generous support we look forward to your continued support in 2011 - Bendigo Bank, Curl Curl Indian, Skyline Bakery and a

new sponsor in Smyth Estate Agents Freshwater. Your assistance this year allowed us to offer free registration to every player. That was really amazing. Thank You, Thank You. Thanks to all the referees, touch judges and junior league officials for doing a great job and keeping our comp in running order. I hope all enjoy the break away and have a great summer, looking forward to seeing you all back again next year for a bigger and better season of fun filled football. Josie Parata-Halo Secretary North Curl Curl Knights JRLFC Valley United Spartans JRLFC 2010 turned out to be another successful year for the Valley United JRLFC both on and off the field. Once again we had another year of over 150 fully paid members and we had 3 very successful “themed” days held at Harbord Park. The first being our Family Day held on the opening day of the season, in June we had our increasingly successful Bendigo Bank Harbord Ladies Day and in July we had our annual Kane Mason Members Day. The results of these days were increased patronage to our games and an increased awareness of Junior Rugby League on the peninsula. Our A grade team had a successful year taking out the Minor Premiership but unfortunately falling short on Grand Final day. The efforts of Coach, David Hoban and his Trainers, Ryan Rubagotti, Craig Elmas & Cameron Nye plus Manager, John McRoberts are very much appreciated and I would personally like to congratulate them on a great year. Our A Reserves made their 10th Grand Final in a row and were able to go through the year undefeated and win their 8th premiership in those 10 years. Congratulations to Coach, Darren Sing, Manager, Eric Brown & Trainer Matt Brunell on a tremendous season. I’d like to thank all the board for their continued hard work and making every post a winner this year. A big thank you to all our unsung heroes who helped out at every home game and made Harbord Park the best looking ground on the peninsula. To all our sponsors, there is no way this club would be where we are at now without your fantastic support through this year and I look forward to your continued support throughout 2011. Lastly of all to our players, you are the lifeline of our club and every past player, fan, member and sponsor thank you for all the sacrifices you made this year to make our football club the “Pride of the Northern Beaches.” Steve “Stats” Woodley Secretary Valley United Spartans JRLFC
