A Note from the Executive Director

This year, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado celebrated its 20th anniversary here in

Denver. It was a year of reflections and looking forward.

In our anniversary year, we recognized key people and organizations that have made a

significant impact on our organization and our scholars. They are Chris and RaNae

Carpenter, Rev. Ralph Houlihan, S.J., Don McFall, Regis Jesuit High School, Rev. Paul

Sheridan, S. J., Jon Stonbraker, Kent and Jo Swanson and Steve Tierney.

In 20 years what have we done? 85% of our scholars are on track for high school

graduation or have graduated. 100% of our high school graduates have gone onto

college or military. At the end of last school year, our scholars had the 2nd highest GPA

of all the other Boys Hope Girls Hope programs across the country. We have helped 185

children reach for the dreams over the years. Our college graduates are teaching, raising

families, starting businesses, and going back to school for dentistry and mba’s.

All that is possible through our valued partnerships. We are so grateful for the support

the entire Regis Jesuit High School community gives Boys Hope Girls Hope. Other

partners include ACE Scholarships, Food Bank of the Rockies, Smiles for a Lifetime,

and Mental Health America of Colorado.

And then there are our amazing volunteers! They mentor, tutor, pull weeds, make din-

ner, wash windows, crunch numbers, ask for auction items - the talent pool is unlimited!

Thank you to all of you that commit to helping our scholars in one way or another.

What will we do in the next 20 years? I wish I had a crystal ball! But I do know that we

will be serving more scholars - getting them through high school, into college and

prepared to be men and women for others! This year we kicked off our Academy

program at Aurora Central High School, serving 22 scholars. We will continue to grow

that program each year, serving more children-in-need.

Thank you for our last 20 years! Here’s to the next 20! With your support, we are

breaking the cycle of poverty through access to quality education!

Mary Frances Tharp

Executive Director

P.S. I almost forgot!

We celebrated the graduation of our

first two Girls Hope scholars, Aaliyah

and Alexis. Both are working hard in

their freshmen year at college!

There’s No Place Like HOPE

The scholars of Boys Hope Girls Hope have a world of

potential hidden within them.

Education is the key that opens that door.

Helping promising children realize their potential - this is

the core of what Boys Hope Girls Hope does. Providing an

excellent education is indispensable to showing children

what they are capable of and empowering them to achieve it.

Children rise to the level of the expectations placed upon them. Boys Hope Girls Hope

places high expectations on the young people in our care - and gives them the support they

need to meet those expectations.

Boys Hope Girls Hope partners with families who recognize the opportunities available to

meet their child’s needs by offering a long-term continuum of support to equip each scholar

with the tools and access they need to achieve their full potential.

Scholars generally enter the program between the ages of 10 and 14, and live in our homes

through graduation from high school. Placement in our program is voluntary on the part of

the child and their parent(s) or guardian.

Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado has two homes - a Boys Hope home and a Girls Hope

home. Scholars are enrolled in the top-rated schools best suited to their needs. They

receive personalized instruction from carefully recruited, screened and trained mentors and

tutors. Between semesters, they participate in a rich array of age-appropriate academic

enrichment and college preparatory programs and activities. These summer experiences

make the idea of going to college real to them, and to prepare them for success as college

students.

During the school year, scholars participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities

designed to enhance their educational experience. Athletics, drama, dance, theatre and

music, science fairs and travel are only a few of the ways that our scholars learn to express

themselves and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

The scholars engage in volunteer projects in the community that show them how to use

their education for the good of others. And they receive academic, financial, social and

spiritual support until the completion of their college education and beyond.

All scholars admitted into Boys Hope Girls Hope receive after-care services designed to

meet their individual needs upon completion of our residential program, usually at the time

of high school graduation. This support includes financial assistance for college tuition,

books, room and board.

Boys Hope Girls Hope in 2014 has expanded beyond to a Residential program to an

Academy program at Aurora Central High School, to provide opportunities and support

through college.
