The Botony Association meeting cum Seminar on the theme, “Climate

change, Challenges---Biotechnology a viable solution?” was conducted.. Chief

Guest Dr. M.GLORY, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, St. Mary’s

college, Thoothukudi delivered an interesting and thought provoking talk on, “

GM crops – Food Safety and Risk Assessment ”.

22. Extra Curricular Activities

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:-

1)Coaching for Entry in Services:

In order to prepare students to get gainful employment in All India

/State/Provincial services, coaching was conducted by various members of the Teaching

Staff. The programme was organized by Mrs. Sivakami of the Department of Zoology.

The coaching intends to be oriented for particular examinations conducted for selection

to services such as Union Public Service Commission, State Public Service

Commission, Bank recruitment etc. Special classes outside the regular time table were

held under this programme.

2).ALUMNI- MEETING

o On behalf of the Alumni Association of our college two Alumni Meetings were

conducted on 14.10.2017. and 11.11.2017.respectively. Many has participated

The career guidance cell encouraged the students to take part in various campus

recruitment programmes.

Placement cell also conducts valuable interactive sessions with the students on every

sixth day order on the topics-career guidance, optimistic thinking and motivational speeches to

encourage the students and help them to lead a better future

The placement cell of our college conducted an one day orientation program on 30th

January 2018. Dr.Santhakumari, Placement officer from Udaya group of Colleges delivered a

talk on “Exam Motivation and Test Anxiety”, and in the afternoon session, Mrs.Vijila Rani,

ICTC Counsellor, Kuzhithurai Govt. Hospital delivered an effective talk about stress

management.

Our U.G.3rd year students participated in the e-college fair held at Wins Group

of Colleges on December 15th 2017. Six students got placement in various companies. 8

students from Dept.of Economics took part in the Campus Fest held in Nesamony Memorial

College, Marthandam on 02/02/2018 and all got selection in various companies at Chennai

4).YOUTH RED CROSS

1. On 27.12.2017 an “orientation Programme for the YRC- Freshers” was conducted.

2. As a part of “Okhi-Cyclone Relief”, 35 YRC volunteers visited the cyclone affected

area at pechipparai and helped a very poor family by giving them clothes & food items

costs by Rs.2500/- on 28.12.2017

3. On 16.02.2018 – attended one day study camp for YRC P.Os & volunteers at Women’s

Christian College, Nagercoil.

4. On 19.02.2018, an “one day orientation programme for the YRC P.Os” was attened

M. S. Universityin , Tirunelveli.

5. On 22.02.2018- “Road safety awareness” was conducted fir the YRC volunteers at our

college campus.

6. On 08.03.2018 “Women’s Day was celebrated by YRC volunteers. Tmty. Kalai Vani

from pro-vision trust, Myladi & Dr Nora from Germany has presented a very good talk

to the student.

7. On 21.03.2018- a “General Medical check-up” was conducted .Dr.A. Sathya & team

from primary health centre, Melpuram. Successfully done the checkup for the I year

students.

5).Youth Welfare

Youth welfare committee of our college provides a strong level of support that is

largely integrated with students’ accomplishments and talents in Arts, Music and literature and

their happiness. The competitions and programmes are conducted to mould the students and to

build self-confidence in the young minds.

The department also centers over range of innovative programmes. The student

community is encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate and University Level competitions.

This year’s youth welfare committee activities commenced with the ONAM FEST on

01.09.2017. Atthappoo and Thiruvathirakali competitions were conducted. The Canara Bank,

Kuzhithurai sponsored the prize.

To crown the activates the committee celebrated the “Joy of Giving Week” from

October 2 to October 8. It was called DHAAN UTSAV. It was a festival of Philanthropy,

engaging students and the Members of the teaching staff. Events like clothes collection drive,

planting sapling, speech on charity and Donation to charity Home were organized.

A food festival where a plethora of delicacies and eatables were brought and sold was

celebrated on 03.02.2018.

On 17.01.2018 students cooked Pongal and celebrated Pongal Festival. Kolam contests

and Folk Dance competition were conducted.

An innovative Inter-collegiate cooking competition “cook without Fire” – MASTER

CHEF 2018 was organized student from various colleges participated and won prize.

To furnish maximum opportunities from the outlet of the talent of the students

‘YOUTH FEST’ is organized every year various competitions are conducted at the college

level to enhance the fervor and trigger the interests of the students. The festival serves as a

platform for the students, to showcase their talents.

6). NSS

NSS has donated Deepavali snacks to mentally retarded children of Special school

,Kuzhithurai on 14/10/2017 in connection with Deepavali celebrations

A special NSS Camp was conducted from 14/03/2018 to 20/03/2018.They have

adopted a near by village in Vilavancode Panchayat.

8). Youth Red Cross:

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:-

22 Members of the teaching faculty are Doctorates out of 30 regular faculties and 2

out of 20 self finance faculties. Two faculties namely Dr.S.V.Mini and Dr.P.Shiji Dept

of Economics were awarded Ph.D. degree in this academic year and three were

submitted their thesis . 12 teachers are recognized as research guides for the University

.Teachers are attending seminars /workshops, present and publish their Research

papers in Nationally and internationally. Seven faculties participated in one day

Orientation Programme for the Ph.D Research Supervisors on 01/11/2017 at M S

University,Tirunelveli. Proposal has been submitted to the University to promote the

Dept. of Economics as the Research Department as all the faculities in the department

are Ph.D holders.

Two students were registered for Ph.D. under the guideship of Dr. B.Sindhu

kumara,Asst.Prof .Of Chemistry.

C.V. Raman, celebrates as National science day. A discussion of Charles Darwin

tribute. on 27-2-2018 at our college auditorium.

Each and every department has an Association to provide ample opportunities for our

students to excel not only in academics but also in co-curricular and extracurricular

activities. Like every year, this year also the association activities helped our students to

exhibit their talents both inside and outside the campus.

agriculture” at our College conducted by Department of Chemistry on February

28,2018.

Staff contributions to the society

Economics Staffs and students of III year donated Rs19000/- and render their one day

service to Manolaya Mental Habitation Centre,Kanyakumari on the auspicious day of

26th Jan.2018

Dr.B.Sindu kumari has given a full financial assistance to reconstruct a house for an

orphaned widow Ms.Muthammal aged 75 who is living lonely. The house is situated in

the village Thettivilai (vilavancode village).

Students D.Baby Shamini ,A.C.Aswathy Devi ,R.Mabel Jeya Kiruba of 3rd computer science

participated in debugging and web designing competition held at Nanjil Catholic College of

Arts and Science, Kaliyakkavilai on October 10, 2017.Mrs.Vensila along with 3 students

attended a National level seminar on “Recent Trends in Information Technology” at Nanjil

Catholic College of Arts and Science ,Kaliyakkavilai on October 10 ,2017.Mrs.C.Vensila

attended a National seminar on “Recent Developments in Research “ organised by the

Research Forum , Women's Christian College,Nagercoil on February 2, 2018.

Miss.D.Baby Shamini of 3rd year computer science presented a paper on “Advanced

Robotics” at our College conducted by Department of Chemistry on February 28,2018.
