I hope that many of you were able to attend the Rogers Cup in August and the Davis Cup in September. My thanks to all the volunteers who have helped make the 2005 season a resounding success. Due to the flooding at Mayfair, we have decided to defer the Volunteer Appreciation night until their facilities are up and running again. We will advise you as soon as we have a date for this event. Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday October 22 nd at 2.00 p.m. at the UTC clubhouse. This is also the time when we will be handing out the year end tournament trophies and other special awards. Please plan on attending in our newly refurbished clubhouse and join us for refreshments afterwards. The courts will still be open at that time so, weather permitting; some tennis may also be possible. We are fortunate that the majority of the 2005 Executive have indicated their willingness to stay on for at least one more year. However there will be some open positions and I would also like to encourage more than one candidate for each position. If you are interested in supporting the active tennis community of children and adults in Unionville, and you have some time to be able to offer up, we would love to have you come forward for an executive position in 2006. Positions can generally be tailored to meet individual time commitments and it can be a fun and rewarding experience. I think everyone would agree that our primary achievement this year has been theupgrading of the clubhouse. I hope you approve of the changes we have made. We will bereporting the final numbers at the AGM but thanks to the combined efforts of ourClubhouse Director, David Spisak and our Treasurer, Alison Horne we will bring the costin close to budget and have a fully refurbished clubhouse to take us forward over severalyears to come.

I would also like to thank Joan Henry and her team of volunteers for all their work inputting together a great package of social events. Of course they haven’t finished yet withthe big one still to come but I know it will also be a great success. So let’s keep playing as long as we can. We won’t take the nets down until we absolutelyhave to and the fall is a great time to play. After that – we look forward to having you back in 2006.
