beneficial in giving me an overview of how many different types of energy efficiency

upgrades work. It also has guidelines for energy management and planning future energy

strategies. These were pertinent to me report as I really had no idea how to start planning

a project such as this. I also wasn’t really sure of things like the difference between a

CFL and LED lighting installation.

efficiency/upgrades/hvac.html>. This web site covers subjects regarding heating,

ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial buildings. It has a load estimator

which allows you to calculate the size of the new system that you will need and the

approximate cost of that system. It also helped me to develop a step by step approach of

how to approach a project as large as this one.

Oregon, n.d. Web. 14 Nov. 2009. <http://energytrust.org/public-sector/incentives/public-

renewable resources. They are an organization that was formed in 1999 by Oregon

lawmakers and citizens. This web site was instrumental in putting together my final cost

analysis as they provided all of the information on tax and cash incentives regarding this

 project.

Nottingham, Dana V. E-mail interview. 16 Nov. 2009. Dana works in the Community Outreach

and Education department of GreenSavers USA. A company who works in the field of

residential insulation and HVAC retrofits on existing structures. Although they do not

commercial installations they proved to be a very reliable source for information

regarding cost comparisons between initial investment capital and overall payoff for a

project like the one I am proposing.

This photograph exemplifies the beauty which a solar installation on a commercial

building can embody. I believe that it will help put to rest the common misconception

that solar installations are an eyesore.

Yurrow, Jacob. Personal interview. 28 Oct. 2009. Jacob is an LEED Accredited Professional

Certified Sustainable Building Advisor. He was able to give me instruction regarding

overall philosophies about sustainable buildings that have proven useful in the persuasive

areas of my proposal. He was also able to point me in the right direction in my search for

government incentives as well as local “green” contractors who do these types of

installations.
