A word from the director

Dear guests and visitors,

As you read these lines, you are holding the very first edition of the Anniscope brochure. This publicationcontains information about all of the activities and businesses related to tourism in Anniviers. It is dividedinto two parts, allowing you to find information either by theme or by location, so that you can fully take advantageof the broad range of tourist services offered in ourvalley.

In the spirit of the grouping of the towns of the valley into the Commune d’Anniviers in 2009, and based on the development of existing collaborative agreements, tourist information has been brought together in the organisation called Anniviers Tourisme.The ten villages and four ski resorts of the valley can now greet you under the same banner, with a remarkable variety of activities that you can discover in this issue of the Anniscope.

Please don’t hesitate to take advantage of free winterpublic transport to discover the full diversity of Anniviers, ranging from modern ski lifts to the typicalold streets of the villages that have kept all their charm and authenticity. Here, you can gaze down at the valley of the Rhone River, or up at the majestic 4,000 - metre peaks of the Couronne Impériale. You can ride a sleigh down, or snowshoe up beautiful prepared paths in the midst of pine and larch forests.

Why not spend your next holiday in Anniviers ? Ours is the only area in the Canton that offers a system like Anniviers Liberté (Anniviers Liberty)

that allows you to benefit in summer from free public transport, access to the chairlifts and other infrastruc-ture available in our valley, along with guided visits between June 1 and October 31, no matter where you are staying in Anniviers. This is surely a “ must ”for the summer of 2013.

Our Tourist Offices are open every day and if you need information for the organisation of your stay, we will be pleased to help you in every way possible, so that your holiday can be filled with the activities you most hope for.

Introduction

Chandolin is popular. Without a doubt... Is it be-cause of its altitude that allows to almost touch the sky, and making it one of the highest inhabited vil-lages in Europe ? Is it because of its location on the edge of the pines and larches bathed in the evening by the last rays of the sun when it bows out on the horizon ? Or for that “ je ne sais quoi ” that makes Chandolin the muse of poets, the stop for travellers and a hideaway for illustrious guests ?

Speaking of this little village perched on the moun-tain, the small town she loved so much, Corinna Bille, wrote in her novel “ Chandolin entre deux abîmes ” ...

Introduction

Introduction

Situated at the end of the Val d’Anniviers, in a place of calm and serenity, Zinal is a kind of ” ultimate destination “. In those magical places where you can not go any further, there is a paradoxical feeling that this is where everything begins ; a little like landing in another world. At the foot of the highest moun-tains of the Alps, a small village has retained the power that propels toward the heights, to make us look up in admiration. When one enters, there can be no doubt, this is the white heaven of Zinal.

There are mountains, which will await a return in summer but in winter the ski area becomes a paradise for the adventurous and a playground for winter sports enthusiasts. Those who believe that after a week in Zinal we return to earth more tired than when we arrived are wrong. It is true rest and peace of mind that visitors find here ! When you have lived these moments, breathing in the fresh air, you know that you no longer can do without it, and that this brief pause has become required annual parenthesis.
