From his freshman cross-country season to his final race as a senior member of the track & field team, Matt inspired his teammates while rewriting the West distance record books, including school record times in the 3,200 meter run and the cross-country 5K. As a driven competitor who prompted those working with him to pursue and attain higher personal goals, Matt continued to set records at the University of Iowa where he was a two-time All-Midwest Region athlete and holds the school record for the 10K. Upon graduating with degrees in English and Health & Sports, Matt continued in his pattern of lifting others to greater heights by embarking upon a career in coaching at the NCAA Division I level. His encouragement of and guidance for collegiate athletes is evidenced by the wake of personal records and team championships that he has influenced through every step of his coaching career.
