Born in New York City on October 11, 1884.

Her father was President Theodore Roosevelt’s brother. Both her parents died when she was little.

After her mother died, Eleanor lived with her grandmother, Mrs. Valentine G. Hall, in Tivoli, New York.

She went to school in England and France where she learned to help others.

Eleanor Roosevelt married her fifth cousin Franklin Delano Roosevelt on March 17, 1905. She married a future President.

She had six kids, Franklin Jr died as a baby.

She was a teacher. She also worked with the American Red Cross.

After Franklin Roosevelt got polio in 1921, she helped him by doing speeches for him and getting involved in political groups.

When Eleanor was in the White House, she was a busy First Lady.

She traveled a lot around our country and the world and visited the poor people.

She wrote books and newspaper and magazine articles.

She gave speeches and was on the radio and TV.

She worked hard to help the poor and the under privileged.

She was smart and cared about people.
