Inspirational …innovative metal products made in Wales

The Tokyo Hipsters Club Bird, one meter wing span bronze sculpture. It stands above the entrance doorway into the new club, bar and gallery in Tokyo which opened in November 2005. Modelled in clay and cast using the lost wax method.

“I wanted the design to resemble eddies of water rippling - a stirring of the deep, but the pattern also became like fingerprints symbolic of the identity of the people and the place.”

One of the gates intertwines to emulate the flickering of the flame. There is a historical gas works near by. Public pedestrian arches commissioned by Wolverhampton Borough Council

Wales Millennium Centre – door handles

Inspired by the tools of different industries in Wales.

Cast in aluminium for the auditorium oak doors. The Buildings’ front doors all have a larger handle design in bronze and also there are pushplates. The prototypes were made by hand using resin and steel, and then using rapid prototyping mirror images were made for matching pairs

Bardic Crown

Made in polished silver and riven slate. There is no soldered parts to the crown, it is assembled by : slotting, bending, pinning and crimping together.It’s springiness allows it to fit a range of head sizes comfortably.

The design conveys: • ‘Books’, to represent the Dwyfor Press • ‘Slate’ to represent the host area of the 2005 eisteddfod –Eryri.
