GENERALGUIDELINESOnits5thyear,theAnnualSearchfortheEMMCTaxWhizisaninter-schoolacademicquizbeecompetitionhostedbyPICPA-EMMCinpartnershipwithMC-JPIA.Thiscompetitionisopentoallaccountancystudentsandshallcovernationalinternalrevenuetaxesinthe1997TaxCode,asamended.Thecompetitionshallbedividedintofourroundsnamely:1. EliminationRound2. QuarterFinals(QF)Round3. SemiFinals(SF)Round4. ChampionshipRoundREQUIREMENTS1. Each Local Chapter may send a maximum of two representatives with each representative competing

individually.2. EachLocalChaptermustsubmitthefollowingrequirementsinSOFTCOPYonly:

DulyaccomplishedApplicationForm SchoollogoandJPIAlogo 1x1coloredpictureoftherepresentative/sincorporateattirewithwhitebackground EndorsementLetterfromtheCollegeDean,JPIAAdviserandLocalChapterPresident.(scannedcopy) CopyofRegistrationFormoftherepresentative/sforthecurrentsemester,certifyingthatthecontestantisofficiallyenrolledandabonafidestudentofhis/herrespectiveschool.(scannedcopy)

3. Alltherequirementsshallbesentviaemailatemmc_taxwhiz5@yahoo.comonorbeforeJuly12,2013.4. SubstitutionofrepresentativesisallowedonorbeforeJuly12,2013.5. [email protected](GENERAL)1. Registrationshallstartat8:00amatthelobbyofLittleTheater,MiriamCollege.Allcontestantsarerequired

toregister

at

least

30

minutes

before

the

contest

eliminations

begin.

The

elimination

round

shall

start

at

exactly 10:00 am. Failure to register during the allotted time shall disqualify the contestants from thecompetition.

2. The judgeor theboardof judges fromPICPA-EMMCshallhave thesoleandexclusiveauthority toclearoransweranyprotest/clarificationraisedbythecontestants.Thedecisionofthejudgeorboardofjudgesisfinalandirrevocable.

3. PICPA-EMMCshallhavetheexclusivepowertointerprettheprovisionsoftheIRRandshallbevestedwiththepowertogivesanctionstoanycontestantwhoshallviolateanyprovisionsinthisIRR.

4. IncasethereareanyconcernsorprotestswhicharenotcoveredinthisIRR,thePICPA-EMMCshallhavetheabsolute power and sole authority todecide and interpret the implementing rules and regulations of thecompetitiononmatterswhichhedeemsnecessarytopreserveandprotecttheintegrityoftheevent.Shouldtherebeanyambiguityencounteredbyanyparty,suchshouldbeaddressedonatimelybasis.ThedecisionofPICPA-EMMCshallbefinalandirrevocable.

5. After reading the contest rules and mechanics, contestants are given the chance to raise questions/clarifications.

6. Duringthequarterfinals,semifinalsandchampionshiprounds,thecontestantsshallbegivenanallottedtimeoffivesecondstoraiseaprotest/clarification,torequestfornewmarker,ballpenorscratchpaper,tochangetheircalculator if itencountersatechnicalproblem,ortoraiseanyotherconcernsbeforeproceedingtothenextquestion. Aftertheallottedtimehaselapsed,thequizmastershallreadthenextquestion,thus,protest,clarification,oranyconcernsshallnolongerbeentertained.

7. During thequarter finals,semi finalsandchampionshiprounds,contestantsshallbeprovidedwithanswerboards.Onlyanswerswrittenontheanswerboardshallbeconsidered.Abbreviationsarenotallowedunlessclearlystipulatedinthequestion.

8. Anycontestant

who

will

be

caught

cheating

and

any

contestants

who

failed

to

comply

with

the

rules

shall

be

automaticallydisqualifiedinthecompetition.

CONTESTRULESANDMECHANICS(ELIMINATIONROUND)1. In theELIMINATIONROUND,contestantsshallbegivenawrittenexamination todetermine the topeight

contestantswhowillqualifyforthequarterfinalsround.2. Thewrittenexaminationshallconsistof theoryandproblem-solvingquestionswith the followingpointing

system:Level PointsEasy 3points

Average 5pointsDifficult 7points

3. Thewrittenexaminationshallconsistof50questionsandshallbeansweredbythecontestantswithinTWOhours.

4. Contestantsshallbeprovidedwithpencils,answersheetsandscratchpapers.5. Contestantsshallbeallowedtousenon-programmablecalculatorsonly.6. Contestantshallbeginansweringthequestionswhenthequizmastergivesthego-signal.7. Contestants should submit their answer sheets upon the sound of the buzzer signifying the end of time

allotted.8. Incaseofatieintherankingofthetopeightcontestants,clincherquestionsshallbegivenuntilthedeadlock

isbroken.CONTESTRULESANDMECHANICS(QUARTERFINALSROUND)1. TheQUARTERFINALSROUNDshallbeabuzzertyperound.2. Contestantsshallbegiven30secondstoanswereachquestion.3. Thequarter finals roundshallbe aSINGLEELIMINATIONandaSEEDINGSYSTEMshallbe implemented.

5. Thecontestantsshallbegivencopiesofthequestionstoreadalongwiththequizmaster.Thecontestantsmayonlyopen thequestionswhenthequizmastersaysGO.Anycontestantwhoshallviolatethisruleshallbegivenawarningonthe1stoffenseand thecontestantshallbedisqualified from thecompetitionon the2ndoffense.

6. Thecontestant

may

buzz

anytime

provided

that

they

already

written

their

answers

in

the

answer

board.

Any

contestant who shall buzz before writing the answer on the answer board shall be disqualified fromansweringthequestion.Awarningshallbegivenonthe1stoffenseanddisqualificationfromthecompetitiononthe2ndoffense.

7. Ifacontestantincorrectlyansweredaquestion,theothercontestantshallbegivenachancetosteal.Butiftheothercontestantstillansweredthequestionincorrectly,thequizmastershallproceedtothenextquestion.

CONTESTRULESANDMECHANICS(SEMIFINALSROUND)1. TheSEMIFINALSROUNDshallbeabuzzertyperound.2. Contestantsshallbegiven30secondstoanswereachquestion.3. Inthesemifinalsround,theSINGLEELIMINATIONandSEEDINGSYSTEMshallstillbeimplemented.Please

4. Oneachmatchups, the twocontestantsshallcompetewitheachotherandthe1stcontestantwhoshallgetTHREE correct answers shall win the match up. The winners of each match up shall advance to thechampionshipround.

5. NonwinnersofSF1andSF2shallbattleforthe3rdplace. Theruleofthesemifinalsroundshallbeappliedinthebattlefor3rdplace,whereinthetwocontestantsshallcompetewitheachotherandthe1stcontestantwhoshallgetTHREEcorrectanswersshallbedeclaredasthe3rdplace.

6. Thecontestantsshallbegivencopiesofthequestionstoreadalongwiththequizmaster.Thecontestantsmayonlyopen thequestionswhenthequizmastersaysGO.Anycontestantwhoshallviolatethisruleshallbegivenawarningonthe1stoffenseandshallbedisqualifiedfromthecompetitiononthe2ndoffense.

4. Thetopfourwinnersshallalsoreceiveplaques,medals,certificatesandfreebiesfromoursponsors.SEPARABILITYCLAUSEIfanyclause,provision,paragraphorpartofthis ImplementingRulesandRegulationsshallbedeclared invalid,such judgment shallnot affect, invalidate,or impair anyotherparthereof,but shallbemerely confined to theclause, provision, paragraph or part directly involved in the controversy in which such judgment has beenrendered.
