We offer a supportive work environment with opportunities for growth and learning, competitive salaries, and a generous and comprehensive benefit package.Position Summary:Oversees and provides the operation of Bostons Animal Shelter, including kennel operations, health care, support services for animal care issues, and administration.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Supervises professional, technical, and clerical personneland volunteers.Oversees the daily operation of the Bostons animal care and sheltering, including animal care staff and volunteers.Assures the proper and humane handling of all animals with attention to theircomfort, stress, and special needs.Assists with front counter operations, including adoptions and customerservice. Providing adoption counseling.Establishes and promotes a team approach with staff and directs weekly staffmeetings.Oversees the administration of vaccines and drugs.Networks with other shelters and rescue organizations to ensure the placement of all adoptable animals.Performs canine temperament evaluations and training other staff toperform them.Other DutiesPerforms related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Other characteristics?Reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technicaljournals.?Understanding dosage of chemicals including chlorine, insecticides,and halothane.?Applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios topractical situations.?Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing validconclusions.?Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.?Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships.Education and ExperienceHigh school or equivalent (Related college course work desirable)Two years experience in animal shelter administration, animal health careadministration, animal health caremanagement, or animal hospital office management; this includes supervisionof staff.Boston Animal Shelter is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
