Hello and Welcome.

Thank you for taking an interest in Anglia Ruskin

University. I very much hope you will join our

progressive and highly successful academic community

which is making a huge impact on social, cultural and

economic development worldwide.

I hope this prospectus gives you much of the information

you need, and that you will want to find out more about

studying with us. We are a friendly place, offering plenty of

support and guidance throughout your student experience.

This support takes many forms, but most importantly we

focus right from the start on helping you work towards your

chosen career. For example, we offer every student the

chance to study our entrepreneurship module. We have

close partnerships with local, national and international

businesses and, at the time of writing, 90% of those of

our former students who responded to a national survey

reported being in employment, further study or both within

six months of graduating.*

We are proud to be a modern University – but we are also

proud of our long history. This dates back to 1858, when

John Ruskin founded the Cambridge School of

Art, now part of our Cambridge campus. Ruskin had

wide-ranging interests, including painting, architecture

and philosophy; with a creative, enquiring mind, he was

not afraid to be unconventional. These are all qualities

we encourage in our students, and I believe they enrich

not only the academic life at Anglia Ruskin but also

our culture and social interactions. Ruskin’s influence

is also felt in the range of expertise we have here.

Our reputation is growing in a wide variety of fields, giving

our students a wealth of opportunities. You can take

advantage of these opportunities at one of our two main

campuses: in Cambridge itself, the historic seat of learning,

or in Chelmsford, the city which is host to the regional

government of the County of Essex. Both offer a lively,

rewarding setting for student life, and both places provide

access to excellent facilities for study, sports, and social

activities.

Our researchWe engage in a broad range of interdisciplinary and collaborative research through our various research networks and through academic engagement with public bodies, business and industry.

In the last Research Assessment Exercise we achieved outstanding success, with four subject areas rated as having ‘world-leading’ research, five subjects as having ‘international’ level research, and History and English being rated among the best in the country.

We support 11 international research clusters, ranging from the Centre for Children’s Book Studies to the Justice and Communities Research Unit, and our Cultures of the Digital Economy research institute.

The creative and cultural industries sector is one of the largest employers in the UK. Our graduates are attractive to employers as we make employability a key feature of our learning and teaching.

We facilitate work experience placements, work-based ■

placement and supports the transition into practice.

Our courses offer a creative integration of practice and ■

Our student community and support In the Faculty of Arts, Law & Social Sciences we strike the right balance of a thriving student community, but one in which every student is an individual.

We have a good mix of overseas, UK and EU ■

students. In our Faculty alone there are students from over 50 different countries and Cambridge has a large international student community.

We have an ongoing programme of events for all ■

our students to encourage integration within our Faculty including academic events such as research seminars and guest lecturers as well as quiz nights, art exhibitions, free Friday concerts and other social events.

In Cambridge School of Art, our small class sizes ■

ensure our students have access to all our facilities and studio spaces.

of English language support including drop-in support sessions and assignment support workshops.

This programme appealed to me immediately as it covered a very wide range of areas in film studies including theory and practice. In these last three years, I have become immersed in so many creative activities that have helped me to grow personally and professionally. I have worked for the Cambridge Film Festival, I co-produced a short film, one of my video works was screened at an international film festival, another at the Arts Picturehouse in a special female filmmaker’s screening. In addition, I was awarded a grant by Anglia Ruskin University to go and participate in a unique silent film festival in Italy, Le Giornate Del Cinema Muto. I visited Venice Architecture Biennale and got an artist residency in Germany for two months, where I taught a video production course and programmed a film-screening event. Most recently my 16mm film was screened at Serpentine Gallery along with many other artist filmmakers.

Postgraduate courses - Faculty of Arts, Law & Social Sciences

Since I have enrolled in this MA Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin, I feel like I have finally found my place in the world. The course is comprised of students from all corners of the globe, from South Korea, Italy, Norway, Vietnam, Poland, China, Thailand, Venezuela, Australia, England and the USA. It makes for a vibrant and incredibly supportive, creative environment. The course leaders, Martin Salisbury and Pam Smy work tirelessly to present us with a wide variety of international guest lecturers, published illustrators, editors and art directors, as well as organising opportunities to meet with publishers to show our work at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

For its international reputation, strong contacts within the industry of children’s publishing, fantastic tutors, and nutritive creative environment I would recommend this course highly to anyone interested in taking their creative skills to the next level and jump-starting their dreams of a lifelong career in illustration.

The Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education at Anglia Ruskin University has a purposeful and dynamic vision to improve the health, social care and education of local, national and international communities through high-quality teaching, research and consultancy. Our Faculty has over 9,000 students, and is the largest graduate provider of health, social care and education courses in the East of England.

We have state-of-the-art simulated clinical skills laboratories where students have the opportunity to gain the hands-on experience they need in a safe clinical environment. The clinical skills facilities are fitted with a range of healthcare equipment that mirrors real life clinical situations.

Our educational facilities include a number of specialist subject rooms including a dedicated science laboratory, two dedicated art studios featuring printmaking and 3D work, a design and technology room, two collaborative information and communication technology (ICT) learning suites and a fully resourced gymnasium.

Anglia Ruskin University is one of the first universities in the country to have met the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s new pre-registration nursing education standards. This reflects the dedication shown by both our staff and students and highlights our passion for innovation and improving patient care. To date, only twelve universities in England and Scotland have fulfilled

the new criteria, which are designed to ensure that newly-qualified nurses are prepared for the future needs of patients and employers.

Graduates from our courses are able to enter challenging and rewarding positions which come with excellent personal and financial rewards.

My plans for the future are to finish my degree with honours, and then go back home and continue with my company for three to four years and develop it, then I would like to come back to the UK to study a Masters degree and maybe a PhD later on.

Optometry is challenging as well as interesting. You will have the opportunity to explore the various aspects of the science of light with respect to vision and in addition, develop mathematical skills which will help you in practice. Degree Pre-sessional Course

We offer pre-sessional courses for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. These courses provide you with a combination of English language advancement and academic skills and language. The academic English focus of the courses will include work on how to write and research for an extended essay, presentation skills, listening and note-taking, seminar skills and academic vocabulary. The English language focus of the courses will be on grammar and the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

If you are starting a degree in September, you have two options for a pre-sessional course. You can either do a 6 or 12 week English with Academic Skills course (depending on your current IELTS level), or you can do our intensive (4 and 7 week) summer pre-sessional.

Successful completion of your degree pre-sessional course will mean you have met your English language entry requirement for your Anglia Ruskin degree.

We have a community of around 450 research students based in our four Faculties:

Most students are undertaking research towards a doctorate. There are several types of doctorate degree: the traditional doctorate, namely Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), the practice-based doctorate, the Professional Doctorate (DProf) and PhD on the basis of published work. An applicant may also seek admission to study for a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Professional Masters.

Each of the four Faculties has a Director of Research, a Director of Research Students and a Research Administrator. All research students, with the exception of those registered for a PhD by Published Work or MD by Published Work, will have a supervisory team. In the first stage of their research, Professional Doctorate students, however, are supported by an academic adviser and the Programme Director. Research students registered for a PhD by Published Work or MD by Published Work have an academic adviser(s) rather than a supervisory team. Research students need to adhere to the Research Degrees Regulations, which are updated annually.

The following section describes the different types of Doctorate in more detail.

Types of DoctorateDoctor and Master of Philosophy (PhD/MPhil)

Generally, the candidate identifies an area where significant new knowledge or understanding may be generated. Having identified an intellectual problem (‘gap in knowledge’) the candidate establishes the research question or hypothesis. The framework for undertaking the research is then formulated. Full-time PhD students normally complete within three to four years.

MPhil candidates also critically investigate and evaluate an approved topic and must demonstrate an understanding of research methods appropriate to the chosen field.

We offer PhD and MPhil study across a wide range of subject areas and in each of our four Faculties.

Professional Doctorate (DProf)

The Professional Doctorate has the expectation of enhancing and making a difference to practice. The candidate is expected to draw on theory in explaining and understanding research. Many DProf candidates carry out research in their own work-place, given that they are particularly well-placed to do this.

Practice-based Doctorate

Practice-based Doctorates include practice as an integral component (or theorise that practice). This type of doctorate advances knowledge partly by means of practice. Creative work must be accompanied by a written component (thesis or commentary), the length of which must fall within the boundaries established by the Research Degrees Regulations.

PhD on the basis of Published Work

Candidates who have published work, normally written within the last ten years, that demonstrates an independent and original contribution to knowledge and an understanding of research methods, may apply to establish a prima facie case for the award of a PhD or MPhil.

If you are an international student wishing to apply to study for direct entry to a doctorate, you will need to show evidence of having studied at a level equivalent to that of a UK Masters Degree, which includes training in research. If you do not have these qualifications, your application will be considered on its merits in relation to the nature and scope of your proposed research.

Support for research students

In addition to support from the supervisory team, the department and the Faculty, students enjoy training and advice from our support services. Research, Development and Commercial Services (RDCS) is a support service that provides generic training for research students. This training includes the compulsory three-stage training outlined below.

This training also includes an online research skills training programme which contains different courses, including the literature review, intellectual property rights, research ethics and research methods.

All the RDCS training sessions are provided free of charge to our research students.

We also hold an Annual Research Student Conference, during which research students have the opportunity to present posters and papers. We have held this now on six occasions and it is always a great success. Our last conference was attended by 150 research students and researchers.

We have a thriving research culture with over 150 students currently registered for research degrees. The standard of the research taking place in our Faculty was recognised in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), where we achieved outstanding success, with four subject areas rated as having ‘world-leading’ research, five subjects as having ‘international’ level research, and History and English being rated among the best in the country.

Supervision and support

Each of our students is allocated a supervisory team which will consist of a first and second supervisor, with additional members added if necessary. ALSS researchers, both staff and students, participate in a number of research networks at both Faculty and University level. These include the Cultures of the Digital Economy Research Institute (CoDE), the Fine Art Research Unit, Reinventing the Renaissance, the Research Unit for Intercultural and Transcultural Studies and the Music for Health Research Unit.

There are a number of research networks which operate across the Faculty and wider University and many of these are interdisciplinary, bringing together diverse experiences of academics, researchers and practitioners. These operate informally and more formally through our extensive research network.

As a Faculty we host a series of postgraduate research events including seminars, meetings and postgraduate training (in addition to the University-wide training programme). We have an on-going programme of events for all students to encourage integration within the wider student and academic community including guest lecturers, quiz nights, art exhibitions, free Friday concerts and other social events.

We provide a creative and energetic environment for undertaking research that addresses real issues across the full spectrum of health, social care and education. Research units academics, researchers, postgraduate students, research users and service users work together in a shared community of enquiry.

The Faculty’s reputation for undertaking high-quality, meaningful and timely research continues to grow. There are a number of international collaborations with partners in Israel, Moscow, Ukraine, Canada, the United States of America and elsewhere.

Researchers within our Faculty are involved in multiple collaborations with local, national and international agencies in the statutory and voluntary sectors.

One of our primary goals is to expand and develop research and scholarly activities across a number of health, social care and educational themes. We currently focus on three core areas: childhood in society and social inclusion, communities and participation, and early childhood research. Additional work is developing around nursing research and practice-based education.

there is potential to transfer from MPhil to PhD (or vice-versa), the conceptual differences between PhD and PrD means that at present there is no possibility of transferring from a PhD to a PrD programme (or vice-versa). Study for MPhil/PhD requires you to undertake an in-depth research study that can relate specifically to your own practice, but alternatively can relate to the wider sphere of your practice, or perhaps to theory underpinning that practice.

The PrD differs from MPhil/PhD in that the study must be explicitly located within your own practice and employing organisation. Accordingly, the focus of the study is anticipated to relate to the needs of the employer. Our Faculty was the first to establish a combined (interdisciplinary) professional doctorate in 2002 and the award has recently been revalidated to introduce more flexibility through the introduction of intermediate awards towards PrD registration.

Faculty of Science & Technology research degreesOur research has been a story of continued and accelerating expansion. Our research profile emphasises our commitments to developing close links with industry, the professions, business and the public sector and a strong involvement with the development of the regional economy. Research is a particular strength of the Faculty of Science & Technology, having been rated ‘world-leading’ or of ‘international’ quality for our Psychology, Vision, and Environmental Sciences research in our RAE 2008 submission.

Supervision and academic support

A suitable supervisory team is allocated to each research student. Each team has 2 academic supervisors. The first one is usually an internal member (Anglia Ruskin University academic) and the second supervisor can be either an internal or an external member, depending on the subject area. Although we have highly knowledgeable academic staff, we also use external expertise in order to get a better insight into the selected topic or subject.

In addition to the mandatory training organised by us (from RDCS), we also offer a series of workshops and training within the Faculty.

Facilities support

We are located in the new Lord Ashcroft Building, where a research area has been developed for our research students. They can easily access a computer, desk and other facilities (i.e. printer, scanner, etc.). The University Library is also situated in the same building and is open 24/7 during semester time.

Our Research Institute and Centres

The Lord Ashcroft International Business School has established the Institute for International Management Practice (IIMP) to provide an impetus to, and a focus for, internationally recognised applied business research. The Institute engages with businesses and organisations to create new knowledge and insights into international management practices, helping understand their impact upon organisational performance and innovation, and on economic and cultural development - at national and transnational levels. The IIMP translates this business insight and delivers it to the international business community in a way that has impact, relevance and added-value. Some of the specific themes being pursued as part of the IIMP's mission are:

Cambridge is a vibrant, student-friendly city packed with entertainment, art and history, set amongst beautiful surroundings and complemented by charming traditions. This compact city has a diverse culture with stunning architecture, world-renowned museums and galleries, plenty of green open spaces, and an array of shops including independent stores and well-known retailers.

Historical landmarks such as King’s College Chapel and Trinity College can be explored and most attractions are within walking distance. When it comes to sports and leisure, there are several sports centres, as well as Anglia Ruskin’s own sports clubs and societies and on-site gym, three cinemas and a number of theatres including our own Mumford Theatre.

Cambridge offers a bustling nightlife with bars, nightclubs and traditional pubs full of character. The Corn Exchange and The Junction host various events including live music and comedy nights. A number of festivals happen throughout the year including the Film Festival and the famous Folk Festival. If you want to eat out, there’s an assortment of restaurants that cater for all tastes from Thai, Italian, Spanish and Chinese to Indian and Mexican.

Cambridge is located in the east of England with central London just an hour away by train and good transport connections to the rest of the UK. Cambridge has an extensive network of public transport in and around the city, and it is also well known for its large number of bicycles. For many students cycling is an excellent way to explore the city and a very economical method of transport.

LibraryOur library has a range of collections and a variety of study facilities including open-access computers, quiet study areas, group study areas, and rooms available to book. As well as printed books and journals, we have an extensive Digital Library providing on and off-site access to e-books, e-journals, and databases.

The Ruskin GalleryA real highlight of the campus, the Ruskin Gallery is a unique exhibition space surrounded by artists’ studios. Open to the public, all exhibitions are free and feature work by staff and students from Cambridge School of Art alongside shows by guest artists. The Ruskin Gallery attracts over 10,000 visitors annually.

The Mumford TheatreThe Mumford Theatre is also on-campus and offers a packed programme of productions for adults and children, spanning comedy, drama, poetry, dance and guest speakers. A series of weekly lunchtime concerts draws some of the country’s finest performers and has become one of the highlights of Cambridge’s musical calendar. Generous support from the University Arts Council enables us to offer free admission to all lunchtime concerts.

Sports facilitiesOur Cambridge campus sporting facilities include a gym, with use of cardiovascular and free weights. You can also choose from a diverse range of classes, such as hula-fit, fencing, street dance, yoga, pilates, and yogalates. For rowing enthusiasts, the Anglia Ruskin Boat Club attracts both novice and senior rowers to our squads, producing highly competitive crews at all levels. The club rents space at a Boathouse in Cambridge with a fleet of six VIIIs and two training sculls.

Cricketing ExcellenceMCC Universities (MCCU) is a scheme to promote cricketing excellence at selected university centres. The MCCU scheme’s aim is to provide talented and aspiring young cricketers, who wish to further their education with unrivalled opportunities, to develop their cricket at university. The Cambridge Centre is a joint venture between the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. A recently re-laid wicket, purpose-built indoor cricket school, an established Sports Injuries Clinic at the local Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and Anglia Ruskin’s Sports Science and Vision and Hearing Departments all assist in the production of cricketing and academic excellence.

Chelmsford was awarded city status as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. A lively and flourishing city, it has a forward-looking, cosmopolitan sentiment. In the county of Essex situated close to London, it is a university city with around 8,500 students. It has frequent, fast and direct accessibility to the east of England, London, and international destinations being just 25 minutes from Stansted airport.

Theatres offer a range of drama, music, dance, comedy, and film, there is a multi-screen cinema, and art exhibitions run at Chelmsford museum. Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre is a 10 minute walk from the campus and offers an ice hockey rink, indoor and outdoor swimming pools plus a host of other recreational facilities. Chelmsford is home to Essex County Cricket Club, golf clubs, rugby and hockey clubs.

Numerous parks and green spaces offer places to relax, and being situated on the River Can and River Chelmer, you can enjoy the countryside from the water. There are plenty of bars, clubs and live music venues for a great nightlife and a variety of places to eat, including Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish and Mexican.

Chelmsford originated as a market town and the tradition continues with its vibrant Chelmsford Market that is over 800 years old. The market includes over 100 stalls and kiosks, as well as hosting events and activities. In addition, the Gourmet Food Fair is a specialist food market offering shoppers local and international treats and fresh produce. Two shopping centres, the Meadows and High Chelmer, are crammed with well-known high-

street names, and there are independent boutiques and specialist stores throughout the city centre.

In 2010, Chelmsford was the first town in the UK to be selected as an ‘International Safe Community’ by the World Health Organisation, reflected by the low crime rate and delivery of a number of community safety projects. This was a UK first, with Chelmsford joining a network of 190 other safe communities based in 26 countries.

Marconi Building Our Marconi Building houses the Faculties of Science & Technology and Arts, Law & Social Sciences as well as an amphitheatre, a mock law court and a 150 seat lecture theatre.

William Harvey Building The Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education offers a series of modern suites in the William Harvey Building which present hands-on training for midwifery, mental health, and surgery with simulated hospital wards and operating theatres.

Lord Ashcroft Building We are proud to have the largest business school in the eastern region, named the Lord Ashcroft International Business School (LAIBS). The award-winning building combines striking modern architecture with advanced learning technologies.

LAIBS has built an enviable reputation as a centre of excellence for business and management and is well-known not only within the region but throughout the UK and in many other countries across the world. Postgraduate Medical Institute Building The most recent addition to our campus is the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PMI) with its own state-of-the-art building. The Institute is a unique partnership of twenty NHS and private healthcare organisations, bringing together clinical expertise and academic excellence. It provides a centre and a focus for collaboration in research, postgraduate education and innovation in the provision of healthcare.

As a lead partner in two Health Innovation and Education Clusters (HIECs) the PMI works closely with UCL Partners, Queen Mary University of London and with the University of Cambridge. Already the Institute has developed links across the world with, for example, Yale University and Cleveland Clinic in the USA, Pavia Italy, Universiti Teknologi Mara - Malaysia and in India, China and mainland Europe.

Sports facilities The sports facilities on our Chelmsford campus include the Mildmay Sports Hall, Mildmay Fitness Suite, Sawyers Gym and a number of artificial pitches. Our sports hall can host international volleyball and National League basketball. It features four badminton courts, two indoor cricket lanes and a netball court. Our fitness suite offers a full gym experience at a very student-friendly price. It is fully air-conditioned and has the latest Pulse Fitness resistance and cardiovascular equipment, which carries Inclusive Fitness accreditation.

Active lifestyles classes are held both during the day and in the evenings, with activities including pilates, yogalates, body art and various exercise to music classes as well.

Each department has its own computing amenities, including specialist software relating to your particular disciplines. Students’ Union Our Students’ Union (SU) is here to help make your experience at Anglia Ruskin as enjoyable and interesting as possible. AccommodationLiving in university provided accommodation can be an excellent way to meet new friends. In both Cambridge and Chelmsford, the accommodation is close to the city centre and within walking distance of the train station with fast links to London.

All of the accommodation is self-catering, but meals can be purchased from multiple on-site catering outlets if required. These amenities are open during the day time Monday to Friday, and vending machines are accessible 24 hours.

We advise you to apply for accommodation as soon as you have accepted your offer to study at Anglia Ruskin for the best chance of securing your first choice.

We can also help if you have any medical requirements, and we have a selection of rooms suitable for a range of disabilities, and a few rooms with provision for an adjacent live-in carer.

Types of private sector accommodation:

Shared houses/flats

Please be aware that Anglia Ruskin does not have any accommodation suitable for families and that self-contained accommodation in the private sector can be very expensive (typically a self-contained one bedroom flat costs from around £800 per month based on a twelve month rental period). Family Houses are normally more than £1000 per month in Cambridge, but lower rents in Chelmsford can be found.

Lodgings/homestay

Lodgings can be particularly helpful to students who are studying for one semester only or for students looking for an experience of living with local people. You will live in their home which may include their family, pets or others. You will share the facilities and in many cases form good friendships. Lodgings will require a student to be flexible and be prepared to make adjustments to suit everyone in the house e.g. times when the kitchen and bathroom may be available, meals taken, etc. It can be a very effective means of both consolidating language learning and exploring a different culture. Rooms can be shared or single and offered on various board types.

Half Board You will receive bed, breakfast and an evening meal. You can expect to pay between £80 -£100 per week in Chelmsford and £95 - £130 per week in Cambridge.

Bed and Breakfast You will receive breakfast only (which may be self-service), and you can expect to pay between £75 - £85 per week in Chelmsford and £90 - £105 per week in Cambridge.

Self-catering You will be allowed to use the family kitchen to prepare your own meals and can expect to pay £70 -£90 per week in Chelmsford and £75 - £95 in Cambridge.

How will an offer of accommodation be made?If we can offer University provided accommodation, an offer will be sent to the email address stated on your application. The offer will include your accommodation address, weekly rent, occupancy agreement dates and rent payment schedule.

Accepting an offer of accommodationIf you wish to accept the offer of accommodation you must follow the instructions you are provided with to confirm your place.

Payment of accommodation rent chargesRents are collected electronically via automated means, whether a bank or card automatic debit or via a secure online gateway. Details of required payment mechanisms are provided as part of your accommodation offer.

Rents are usually paid in instalments throughout the year, with the first instalment commonly higher than later instalments. Students studying for only one semester are usually expected to pay either in full, or in three instalments. In all cases the first instalment must be paid in full before keys are issued.

ScholarshipsThe International Merit Scholarship scheme

The International Merit Scholarship scheme provides awards of either £500 or £1,000 to well-qualified students applying for any full-time Bachelors or Masters course. In some countries we offer a laptop alternative. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit and level of competence in English language. Once you apply for a course at Anglia Ruskin you will be automatically considered for a scholarship, and details of any award given will be included in your offer letter.

International Alumni Scholarship Scheme

This scholarship of £1,000, deducted from the tuition fee, is if you are an Anglia Ruskin University undergraduate student who is progressing to an Anglia Ruskin postgraduate course, or if you are an Anglia Ruskin University alumnus who wishes to return to us to undertake a postgraduate course of study.

Transfer Scholarship Scheme

If you are a student transferring from a partner institution with which we have a specific co-operation agreement, you may receive a £1,000 transfer scholarship as a reduction on your tuition fees.

Sports Scholarships Scheme

Anglia Ruskin offers selective sports scholarships and bursaries to students of high sporting potential enrolled on our academic programmes. Awards range from £500 to £1,000 per year, and are available in a variety of sports including cricket, rowing, athletics and swimming.

The British Chevening Scholarship

The University participates in this Foreign and Commonwealth Office-funded scheme and will accept up to ten Chevening Scholars per year on to full-time postgraduate degrees. The Scheme is administered

Cost of LivingThe UK Border Agency sets the minimum living cost requirements for students studying in universities outside London as £845 per month. Don't forget that your budget should reflect your own priorities - for example, you may wish to spend a little more on books and a little less on clothes, for example. An example budget is available on our website.

Paying your feesInternational students are required to pay a deposit which ranges from £2000-3000 for undergraduate Bachelors and postgraduate Masters courses. The exact amount you will be required to pay will be listed as a condition in your offer letter, and you will not be issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) until we have received your deposit. Please note the deposit is non-refundable unless your visa is refused.

You will then have the option of paying your remaining fees in full at or before registration, or following our instalment plan to spread your tuition fee payments.

Student Visas and ImmigrationIn 2009 the UK introduced a new immigration system for anyone wishing to enter the UK from outside the European Economic Area called the Points Based System (PBS). The visa route for students is called Tier 4.

Anglia Ruskin University is a licensed sponsor under the Points Based System, and is able to issue the necessary documentation to assist students in obtaining entry clearance to the UK.

Students studying with Anglia Ruskin for longer than six months If you are joining Anglia Ruskin University to undertake a course of study that requires you to be based in the UK for longer than six months, we will issue you with the necessary documentation to apply for a visa under Tier 4 of the Points Based System.

Once you have an unconditional offer of a place at Anglia Ruskin University we will issue you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). The CAS is an electronic record held on the UKBA system, and includes a lot of information about you and your offer of a university place, such as your passport number, details of the supporting documents you have provided as part of your course application, and information about the University.

Your CAS will be issued when you have fulfilled all the conditions of your offer of a place at Anglia Ruskin. This will usually include payment of the required deposit. Once we have issued a CAS for you, we will send you a letter outlining the details of your CAS, including the 'CAS number' that you will need to include on your visa application. Once you have received this, you can apply for your visa.

Students studying with Anglia Ruskin for six months or lessIf you are joining Anglia Ruskin University to undertake a course of study that requires you to be based in the UK for six months or less, we will issue you with the necessary documentation to apply for a Student Visitor Visa. A Student Visitor Visa allows you to enter the UK and study for six months or less.

This applies particularly to students who are coming to study on one semester programmes (such as Study Abroad) or are undertaking a 'dual award' programme where less than six months of the course is based in the UK.

If you are coming to Anglia Ruskin University to study an English language course lasting less than six months, but intend to then continue studying at Anglia on a degree programme, we may be able to issue you with a Tier 4 Student Visa under the Points Based System.

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance certification from The Foreign and Commonwealth OfficeInternational applicants who are applying for postgraduate level courses in certain science or technology subjects (and who are not from either a European Economic Area country or Switzerland) will require ATAS clearance certification from The Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Q. Do I need to take care of my medical insurance?A. It is advisable to check whether you will be covered

by your own medical insurance from your home country while you are in the UK. If not, it is highly recommended that you take out extra private medical insurance to cover your stay in the UK before you travel. Students studying a course for longer than six months are entitled to free UK state healthcare (NHS). This will in most cases cover any treatment (except dental care) by a doctor or in hospital.

However, insurance is recommended as the NHS will not cover all costs in the event of a serious illness. Endsleigh Insurance, in conjunction with UKCISA, has a special policy for international students. If you are on a programme that is shorter than six months, and you are not from an EU country or one with a reciprocal healthcare arrangement, you will not receive free health care from the NHS and so should take out medical insurance before you leave home.
