From the Principal Once in a hundred years……………. It was with a mixture of pride and humility that I was pleased to represent our school at Saturday’s ANZAC Dawn Service at Rooty Hill RSL. Together with School Captains Jacob Churchill and Lorrye Genoboli I was privileged to lay a wreath on the memorial wall on behalf of our students. Other senior students, Lance Somera and Paris Curmi distributed flags throughout the event, while Rhea-Maree Hill, Nergiz Celik, Molly Auld and Britanya Stevenytantra were featured on giant screens having prepared very touching presentations on what ANZAC means to them. The service was moving and memorable. We are very proud of the students who took an active part. Thank you to the many staff and community members who attended – I’m sure this particular ANZAC Day is one that will be long remembered.

Interesting Information The school’s 2014 Annual Report will be posted on our website this week. If you have any queries after reading it I will be happy to chat with you. If you would prefer a hard copy, a limited number will be available from the school office.
Kind regards Jackie Malecki
On Friday 24th April, Rooty Hill Public School held their annual ANZAC Assembly. This year we acknowledged a very important event in Australia’s history as Saturday 25th April marked the 100th anniversary of the landing of ANZAC troops at Gallipoli. This year, we were very lucky once again to have special guests. Mr Bob Clucas, who is the principal trumpet player for the NSW Ambulance Band, attended our assembly. Mr Clucas played the Last Post and Reveille at the assembly, making it all the more special for our school community. Mr George Corderoy, a member of our Indigenous community and grandparent to Elijah and Gabriel, spoke about the significance of ANZAC and why it is so important to him. We also had Mr Ray Johns, who is the President of our School Council and the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Rooty Hill RSL attend, and shared his thoughts with us. Both of these guests were National Servicemen in the Vietnam War.

A huge thank you to the students who brought in flowers, allowing us to make a lovely wreath for this special occasion. It was also wonderful to also see so many parents attend this special event. Zavera Shankaran Assistant Principal
Just a reminder for students in Years 2-6 that the school cross country carnival will be held this Thursday, 30th April. Students will be encouraged to compete at their own pace. The event will take place on the school grounds. On the day students are encouraged to wear sports uniform, including a school hat and appropriate footwear, and to bring along an extra drink. Best of luck to all! Mr Katon

Tickets will be available at the door. The canteen will be open for students to purchase drinks, ice-creams and chips. The SRC will be selling glow sticks at the entry to the disco for $2 each. Mrs Simunovic and SRC committee
Last Saturday 25th April 2015, we saw our nation celebrate the 100th anniversary of the landing of the ANZAC troops at Gallipoli. This year’s Dawn Service at the Rooty Hill RSL Club was the largest in Western Sydney with well over 5,000 people paying their respects to our fallen ANZACs. We spent this day commemorating these brave soldiers who fought for our freedom and celebrating their lives. There was a short film entitled “What our next generation thinks of ANZAC Day.” The film featured students from different schools sharing their thoughts on ANZAC Day and what it means to them. Four of our own students were featured in this moving contribution: Rhea-Maree Hill, Molly Auld, Nergiz Celik and Britanya Stevanytantra. Together with the commemoration of ANZAC Day, the RSL opened up the new Memorial Gallery for our fallen soldiers. The Memorial Gallery was opened by the last surviving veteran of the Tobruk Campaign. Before The Last Post and Reveille were played, we School Captains and Mrs Malecki were honoured to lay a wreath of flowers for our perished ANZACs. It was a moving day, one we will never forget. “We will always remember them; “Lest We Forget”
