ence, Animal Science, Natural Resources, Communi-
cations, Leadership, Health, and SET- (science, engi-
neering and technology). 4-H has the image that
you must live on the farm but that’s not true, any-
one can participate in 4-H!
It’s free to be a member!! Enclosed in this news-
letter is an enrollment form. We must have an en-
rollment form for each member. If you would like to

4-H Youth Development
Volunteers are a vital part of the education of our
youth. Who can become a 4-H volunteer? Anyone who
has a passion for youth and knowledge in a particular
area of choice. Anderson County 4-H is looking for
good people for short or long term service.
What is the role of a 4-H
volunteer leader?
1. To help youth develop skills through their experienc-
es in club groups, leadership activities and projects.
Youngsters remember more if they actually experience
something and engage in “hands-on learning”. 4-H en-
courages the development of skills that will be useful to
them now and in the future. 4-H helps each member
develop good habits, experiment with new and chal-
lenging ideas and practice problem-solving skills.
2. To teach 4-H members how to think, not what to
think. 4-H helps develop creative thinking in young
people by giving them a chance to make decisions on
their own.
We are currently recruiting the following leaders:

4-H Youth Development programs provide opportunities for
creativity in a learn-by-doing environment and encourage youth
to become involved in projects and activities. The 4-H Honors
Program is intended to recognize 4-H participants who have
outstanding accomplishments and to provide incentive for
youth to increase their knowledge, skills and abilities.
If you are interested in applying for 4-H achievement please
make an appointment with Susan to begin your application.
Applications are due November 25th !
Any Anderson County youth ages 9-18 are eligible to participate. Youth will receive 2 hams to cure. The project will teach youth how to cure a county ham. After the hams are cured, youth are required to give a speech on any aspect of the project such as nutri-tion or value added. Speeches and hams are judged at the Kentucky State Fair. The combined presenta-tion and judging scores determine the overall country ham winner. Youth must get 6 hours of classroom instruction to compete at State Fair. Contracts will be released soon. Sign ups will begin in November.

Without the help from our wonderful supporters, 4-H Camp may not have been possible for some of our youth. We offer schol-
arships and the demand grows larger each year. Several local groups made donations this year that went to help offset the cost
of camp for those applicants. We can’t thank you enough! The Anderson County Soil Conservation office, Friendship Homemaker
Club, and other community supporters.
Camp Dates for 2020 are
July 7th –10th
Mark your calendars!!
