INSTALLING SENSORS

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

Set the switch on the front of theDoor/Window Sensor to MIN ifyou are using it to protect a win-dow or to MAX if you are using itto protect a door.

Set the switch inside the Door/Window Sensor’s battery compart-ment to the right - N.C. (NormallyClosed). The magnetic switch sup-plied with the sensor is the N.C.type.

The, sensor and magnetic switchsupplied are already connected to-gether. If you need a longer wire, use any suitable wire to connect themagnetic switch to the Door/Window Sensor’s two screw termi-nals.

Select a location for the Door/Window Sensor. We recommendthat you purchase enough sensorsto protect the front and back doorand any windows that are obscuredfrom view or easily accessible (in-cluding basement windows).

Mount the Door/Window Sensorand the magnetic switch in the in-tended location using the suppliedscrews or double sided tape.

Install the magnet using the sup-plied screws or double sided tape.

Note: If you mount the magneticswitches on metal doors or framesyou should ensure that they are nomore than 3/16" apart. On woodensurfaces they can be up to 3/8”apart.

Do not mount the magnet directly ontoa metal surface, use a wood or plasticspacer.

7. Check for proper alignment byopening the door or window. Thelight on the sensor turns on eachtime you open the door or win&w.

Repeat Steps 1 to 7 for any additionalsensors you wish to install (up to 16).

Typical mounting methods

00

First attach the sensor’sback cover to the wall.

Then slide the sensoronto the cover.

Page 10: and accessories (sold separately) - Smarthomecache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/7301.pdfand accessories (sold separately) J PS561 Security Console KF574 Keychain Remote HT544 Remote Control

Windows

Note: For sliding windows it is best tomount the magnet and switch at thebottom of the window with the arrowsfacing each other. This way the mag-net wiII make a “clean break” from theswitch when the window is opened. Ifyou want to mount them on the side ofthe window (so that the magnet “slidespast” the switch) you should offsetthem slightly so that the arrows DONOT line up, as shown in the diagramto the right.

To protect more than one door orwindow fkom a single sensor

Use N.C. (Normally Closed) typemagnetic switches and Ioop them inseries from one door or window to thenext (using any suitable wire). Thenconnect both ends of the loop to thesensor. See below.

Note: N.C. means Normally Closed. This type of magnetic switch is sup-plied with the sensors. These switchesare normally closed when the door orwindow is closed, and open when themagnet is moved away. This type ofmagnetic switch is used so that if thewire between the magnetic switch andthe Door/Window Sensor is cut, thealarm trips. If you want to connectmore than one magnetic switch to asensor you will need to connect themin series (not in parallel).

You can use Normally Open (N.O.)magnetic switches if you want to con-nect them in parallel but the alarm willnot trip if someone cuts the wire be-tween the switch and the sensor.

TESTING THE DIALER

Once you have installed the Sensorsand Remote Controls, and entered thephone numbers and the voice mes-sage, the Console is ready to use.

To test the voice message:First test the message without connect-ing the Console to the phone line. Dis-connect it if it’s already connected.

Set Console to RUN. The Consoleplays back your message through theplug-in earphone and the RECORDlight stays on for 15 seconds. To hearthe message again, set the Console toINSTALL, then back to RUN. Unplugthe earphone when finished.

You must test the dialer foreach phone number stored:Make sure the phone numbers havebeen entered into the Console as perthe instructions on page 15,

Make sure Console is connected to thephone line.

Call your friend or neighbor to letthem know you are going to test thesystem.

Place the Console in the RUN mode.Press [ARM] on the Remote Control.

Open an armed door or window or tripa Motion Detector. The Consolesounds its alarm, flashes house lightsand calls the first phone number.

Shortly after it dials the number, theConsole starts to play its message so ifthe person it calls doesn’t answerquickly, they may miss the first part ofthe message. However, the Consoleplays the message 3 times so the per-

son will always hear the completemessage. If the phone hasn’t been an-swered by the time the Console hasplayed the message three times, or ifthe call is answered by an answeringmachine and the Console thereforedoesn’t receive a touch-tone response, the Console dials the next numberstored (up to 4 phone numbers).

The message should include a state-ment asking the listener to press 0 ontheir touch-tone phone. If the listenerpresses 0, the sounder stops and theywill be able to listen-in (for 75 sec-onds). To test this, you can speak, thencall them back to ask them what yousaid. Note, you should wait 75 sec-onds before calling them because theConsole keeps the phone line tied upfor this period of time. (Or you can un-plug the Console from the phone linebefore calling them back, but remem-ber to reconnect after).

75 seconds after the listener presses 0,the sounder resumes and stops after 4minutes unless you press [DISARM]on the Remote Control to stop thealarm and reset the Console.

Important: The Console can be setto call out on either pulse or touch-tone phone systems but if the friendor neighbor who you choose to ac-cept calls from your system does nothave touch-tone service and a phonewhich can generate touch-tonecodes, they MUST purchase atouch-tone “beeper.”

INTERCOM SYSTEMS

Intercom systems which send voicesignals over existing electrical wiringmay interfere with the ability to con-trol modules from your supervised se-curity system when the intercom is inuse. If the intercom system has its ownseparate wiring it will not cause aproblem.

Note 1: The supervised security sys-tem does NOT work with the PR511Outdoor Motion Detector. The PR511will control the same lights that the se-curity system controls, but the PR511will NOT trip the alarm.

Note 2: The ARM button on the Con-sole arms the system in the Delaymodel only. Use the HT544, KF574 orSH624 Remote Control if you want toarm the system in the instant (MIN)mode.
