Overall objective

• to enable a resilient power system by developing technical solutions for the provision of ancillary services (AS) by ReGen plants like WP and PV

Goals:

• to provide deep insight regarding the technical feasibilities of current ReGen technologies for providing AS.

• to provide solutions on different coordinated AS support scenarios

• verification and extensive studies for the quantification of the impact of AS from ReGenplants on the power system stability.

• to define guidelines & recommendations for implementation of control solutions for AS provision from ReGen plants

RePlan Focus

• to develop controllers for the delivery of AS from WP and PV plants:

– incorporating communication properties

– using existing simulation methods for renewable generation patterns

• AS in focus:

– voltage control support

– frequency control support

– rotor angular stability support

• suitability to coordinate the provision of the services from WP and PV plants, identifying and analyzing their strengths and limitations

• verify provision of AS from WP and PV plants both through simulation models and laboratory facilities (large or real small scale power systems)

• impact of communication and power availability forecast error in providing AS and coordination of ReGen plants

Objectives

– to investigate the technical feasibilities of ReGen technologies like WP and PV.

– to define an hierarchical control framework including information and communication technology (ICT) for coordinated participation of ReGen in the provision of AS.

Results of WP1

– a detailed specification list of the technical requirements for the development of generic model and control platform for ReGen plant

– a hierarchical control framework including ICT for coordination of the ancillary services from WP and PV plants

– optimal dispatch strategy using information exchange between the participating power plants at the different levels in the hierarchy

Objectives

– to identify voltage control challenges related to the accommodation of large penetration of ReGen plants

– to develop controllers with the specific aim of supporting voltage stability

– to analyze the suitability for a coordinated voltage control support from WPs and PVs

Objectives

– to identify frequency control challenges related to the accommodation of large penetration of ReGen plants

– to develop controllers with the specific aim of supporting frequency stability

WP5 – Verification of Voltage and Frequency Control Support

Objectives

– to verify the capability of ReGen plants (WP and PV) to provide ancillary services to system operators both on a large scale and a small scale power system

– Two different laboratory facilities used for the validation of the control algorithms:

• Real-Time Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environment based on multi-domain physical systems

• SYSLAB facility existing in the DTU Risø Campus
