Ancient Greek Costumes Chiton: Chitons were long woollen tunics worn by men and women in Ancient Greece, from the Archaic period (c. 750–c. 500 BC) to the Hellenistic period (323–30 BC). They were single pieces of fabrics and the size of which was determined by a person’s height plus 18 inches. It was then folded down by the 18 inches, wrapped around them and then pinned or buttoned together. Exomis: An exomis (a short chiton fastened on the left shoulder) was worn for exercise, horse riding, or hard labor. Himation: A rectangular woollen or linen cloak worn by men and women in ancient Greece. It was usually worn over a chiton, but was made of heavier drape and played the role of a cloak.
